Why can't Meh combine orders in a single package?
4I ordered a small thing, then a few minutes later I ordered another small thing, with standard shipping for both. Imagine my surprise at getting two separate tracking numbers and later two separate packages. It makes me hesitant to do multiple orders because of the package waste. I’m sure Meh could save lots of money by combining multiple orders that are placed at around the same time, or giving a way to order more than one thing. In fact I thought the free/delayed shipping option was to let Meh combine several days worth of orders, which seemed clever.
I’d sure like to get fewer packages, both to save package materials and to decrease the hassle of receiving packages at my end. I hope Meh can work on this once the holiday season winds down.

Logistics
@medz and potentially WMS software constraints
It could be fun tracking them both!
If they are both shipped via Pitney Bowes they might take different routes, but cross each other’s paths in North Dakota, Florida, Utah, North Dakota, and Texas on their way to you.
@zachdecker, my Claws foot-wear was to be delivered to me by whenever & it almost made it to me pretty much on time. Oh, but Pitney couldn’t allow that, so after reaching Memphis, Tn which is 35 miles away, it departed there & went back to Texas, AND back to the shipper! They sent me a fukn notice on the 5th letting me know It Was Shipped & On It’s Fn Way!! Whoopee!! I won’t be buying from Side Deals EVER AGAIN!! P B ain’t worth a shit, ergo, Side Deals is no better For Using Them!!
Because my mom needs more boxes? Perhaps EVERYONE’S mom needs more boxes. And Meh knows this.
@mossygreen Your cats, if you have any, need more boxes. And Felton10’s bird Walter needs them too.
@mossygreen, “meh know this¿?” If they’re that all-knowing then they should know my Mom died last year!!
If you make separate orders from Amazon or pretty much any vendor they would do the same thing too.
@dasred Maybe so but it seems pretty lame. If I saw that happening I’d be like “I’m losing MILLIONS!”. In fact the two orders I placed (mentioned above) were both for the exact same item, a couple minutes apart. Ordered one and then decided I wanted two. If I had decided a little faster, I could have clicked “add another” and gotten just one package. Anyway, it seems like a bug to fix that would directly help both ends.
@phr I’ve been in the exact situation multiple times.
@dasred For those with Prime, Amazon lets you pick your delivery day, and then everything comes on that day in fewer boxes.
@dasred @phr in a case like that you can always reorder for two then cancel the first. You have one hour to cancel an order.
@dasred, not everyone. The Sellers on eBay allow you [as a customer] to combine orders & have them shipped together.
@dasred @zachdecker @narfcake Amazon has become fairly sophisticated, at least sometimes I recently placed orders two days apart, both as gifts to be sent directly to a friend. The Amazon Day delivery option was not offered. Yet they still found their way into the same package.
@ThunderChicken Sometimes, with no common sense applied – like that time they decided to package a brake rotor and light bulbs in the same box.
@dasred I Received a box from Amazon today that contained 3 different orders, placed on 3 different days. I have received several boxes like that since Amazon started delivering their own stuff. When you order there is an option to have several orders delivered on the same day to save on boxes/packaging.
@dasred When is the last time you ordered something from Amazon? Multiple orders routinely end up in the same package - even orders placed on different days. Here in CFL, you can order items a few hours apart, and get both items - in the same box - before the end of the afternoon the same day you order them. Amazon is a beast.
@dasred I just received a box from Amazon containing three items ordered over a two day time period. All three small items were in a box the size of a microwave oven. I think there was still room in the box to fit a microwave oven! There wasn’t even any packaging as there was nothing breakable in the box! Not the first time I’ve had over-sized boxes from Amazon.
@dasred I ordered 4 items at the same time. Shipped in 3 different packages and 3 different companies for delivery. Took 5 days for 3 to ship and 8 for the last.
@dasred @speediedelivery Amazon doesn’t seem to care what day I choose for delivery. They just deliver according to whatever insane schedule they’re using. Could be next day, could be next week.
@dasred @speediedelivery @walarney Yeah. I’ve had that happen. I ordered something with slow shipping so I could get the digital credit. It said it would arrive in 7-10 days. It was on my doorstep the next day and I got the digital credit. I’ve also ordered that say they’ll arrive in a day or two and it’s a week before I get them (although that’s rarer). Often if I order a few things with slower shipping and then another thing with fast shipping, all the things show up in the same box, with faster shipping. I don’t quite understand it, but I design airplanes so shipping logistics are outside my area of expertise.
Meh is set up to sell one item a day, so combining orders isn’t typically an aspect to be of consideration.
I’ve ordered items from Amazon in quantity on the same order. They still shipped in separate packages.
Less training for staff. Easier tracking of work. Less time for packing. It would save a little bit on shipping and some on packaging but I don’t know if it would be enough to program the system and pay the time to do it. Large volume shippers get some nice discounts on the price to send stuff.
As an example of how I am thinking - one employee gets a pile of labels and a pallet of an item. Here box one of these and put one label on it. With changing to custom orders, employee gets a list of what to pack. Go to aisle 10 and grab one item from pallet 16, over to aisle for three items from pallet 62. Find packaging to fit the stuff and put label on it.
@speediedelivery not to mention, they would also need to select from different size boxes. Current process, pallet of boxes, pallet of items, pallet of Texas air, pile of labels. IKEA instruction manual shows a picture of one plus one plus one plus one. Done. You could hire just about anyone to do that.
The place is literally called “Meh.” Don’t expect too much.
How do they feel about the environment? Meh.
How do they feel about politics? Meh.
How do they feel about profit margins? Meh.
How do they feel that @decoratedwarvet lost his mom last year? Meh. (I personally say thanks for serving and sorry for your loss.)
Hope that helps bring down your Mehxpextations, phr. I mean… It’s Meh.
@IWUJackson, evidently you failed, or conveniently overlooked who I was replying to. They said that maybe people need boxes & maybe my mom needs boxes & meh Knows that, hence my timely fuckin reply. Whether meh cared that she passed was/is irellivant, but since they are so all-knowing then they should know & be very aware that she doesn’t fucking need any mother fuckin boxes, or Anything Else! Capiche¿? If you still feel you must make another comment, may I suggest you text, or write Your Mother!! BTW, Jack, Thanks, for your comment. I loved your sarcasm; how did you like mine¿? Nevertheless, if you can’t stand the heat, stay outta the fn kitchen! LOL!! <<<Low On Liquor!!
@decoratedwarvet Reading your comments always gives the impression of an extremely unpleasant, angry person shouting at clouds. Maybe tone it down a little, it’s just a shopping site and you don’t want to have another stroke.
@decoratedwarvet my original comment was directed @phr, but since my mother abandoned me a long time ago, if you see her, tip a glass of your casemates order to her! Or give her a box, since she probably needs one.
@IWUJackson @phr, if you’re saying you followed my comment by Thanking @phr for his Svc & he mentioned losing his mom, so you gave him your condolences for his loss, all I can fn say is give me a break. The odds of that fn coincidence makes me think you assume I’m more naive & stupid than I am.
Anyway, since you posted a rainbow of very, very sarcastic comments, which I do honestly like, I simply returned the favor. I wasn’t angry at you, nor the whole world, as you obviously presume. I apologize if I ever gave you that impression. My Bad!!
But, no, I am very seldom in a bad mood. I’m usually in my bed, or recliner & having a Bud Lite, or have taken my pain meds, which put me in a relaxing mood. You are reading my comments as being serious, but 'A Fn Serious Attitude’s is for those who have No sense of humor. Please, read my comments with a lighter state of mind. I admit I like sarcasm & dry humor, but I never enter a Q&A session like this, Quora, or any other platform while I’m fukn pissed-off; for what¿? Maybe, you should lighten up not tighten up when you read Any comments. I’m just saying,…
@IWUJackson @phr, again, I apologize because I directed part of a comment I meant for Penny Penny to you! Again, My Bad!! I wouldn’t have mentioned your Mom had I not thought you did mine. Regardless, I didn’t buy any Wine!! They Sold Out & I live in a fn state that bars USPS deliveries of Boos, anyway!!
@pennypenny, please, read my comment to WU Jackson which should be below, or somewhere. You take me too seriously,… really. BTW, Penny, I’ve never had a stroke!! Evidently, you my take dry humor & sarcasm too assume I am angry. I Always control my moods, so I can assure & swear to you I’m seldom angry!! Honest!! I am very, and sincerely sorry for making you think I am, or was.
@decoratedwarvet valid, since the original parenthesis were for you. No worries about my mom. Obviously we don’t have a close relationship…
I’ll try to split out my comments better, or not. After all, this is Meh.
What a super idea!
Put multiple orders in one box instead of many separate boxes. The efficiency! This way Meh could foot drag assembling the package, and PB could delay, lose, mis-ship, fold, spindle, and mutilate far better. Then instead of getting several deliveries and a partial order, why I could get no deliveries whatsoever!
Well, this just jingles my bell!
@Jackinga Ugh. Pitney Bowes. Why did it have to be Pitney Bowes.
LaserShip and FastMile; Now there’s a couple of last mile delivery companies who have earned their place in the hall of shame for losing packages. Thos guys SUCK.
You know who’s even worse? Pitney Bowes.
@danlo @Jackinga, I know that’s right!! I ordered 5 pair of Clawz from Side Deal on 11•27, they shipped them on 11•30 & they got as close as 33 mi away, but went back to Irvin, Tx, or wherever & were resent (?) & finally showed up on 12•12, but came in two fn boxes. I rcvd 10 pair of Clawz!! Who the hell knows how they think, or even stay in business. Sheez & not that the following was their fault, but none of the Clawz fit!! I think PB is trying to outdo them Chinese fn business leaders & sellers!!
I think they’re pretty surprised when someone buys anything. So buying two things – especially at the same time (!) – is not even considered.
