@heartny They were my first favorite band. I wanted to be Danny Partridge. That might be part of the reason I play bass. Another reason is that guitar was too hard.
This song isn’t really typical of the rest of the album, but I really like the album. It’s one of the ones I got to listen to as a music director at my college radio station before it was released, then went and bought the actual album when it came out because I liked it so much.
@SSteve I mentioned below that I’m surprised that Don Johnson’s “Heartbeat” didn’t show up on the list. There’s also another “Heart of Gold” by James Blunt, and probably many others that didn’t make this list.
@Pamtha No, never saw him live. One of the disadvantages of him being on the East coast and me being on the West. I did see John Hodgman live in San Francisco, though, and it was tremendous.
@dvshrt Yup, came here to say this. Was the first ‘heartbeat’ song that came into my mind. Figured it was the kind of retro-ironic-bad song that would make the list.
Where’s the “I don’t listen to music” option?
What, no “Heart Beat” by Wire, or “Until the Last Beat of My Heart” by Siouxsie and the Banshees?
@citizenken Apparently I am now the guy who posts, “what, you left out…” in response to lists on the internet.
@citizenken what about Big Black?
My heart’s not in this one.
The Partridge Family "I Can Feel Your Heartbeat "

@heartny Came here looking for this one. Aaaand it’ll be stuck in my head all day.
Metric’s “Help I’m Alive” is my pick. No, its title doesn’t include the the word “heart”.
@Nuclearfuzzbomb And it doesn’t include “beat” either. The only two prerequisites for the list and it doesn’t satisfy either one of them.
My favorite Heart song is called “Heart”

Oops. It was on the Rockpile album.
/youtube Rockpile Heart
@SSteve Love Nick Lowe!! I got a hug from him once. Another great song of his is “Heart of the City”.
Headlights - "Some Racing, Some Stopping"

NONONO - "Pumpin Blood"
The Knife - "Heartbeats"
@ehsfoewa Glad somebody beat me to this.
I probably shouldn’t do this, but here are all the songs in my iTunes library with “Heart” in the title.
That’s 219 songs. 13 hours, 43 minutes of heart.
I like that “You Took My Heart” is followed by “You Will Not Take My Heart”.
@SSteve JoCo Live? Have you been? I went this year, had a blast!

@SSteve I don’t know why people are missing this, but the commonality isn’t “heart”. It is “heart beat”. 90% of these don’t qualify.
Even though it doesn’t really count, I immediately thought of Holiday by Weezer. HEAAAA-ART BEEEE-EAT! HEAAAA-ART BEEEE-EAT!
80’s pop rules.
What? No love for Don Johnson’s 1986 release “Heartbeat” ?
@dvshrt Thank you! As I read everything above, this was the song playing in my mind.
@Euniceandrich Same for me. I can’t believe it didn’t show up in that list of songs @SSteve posted.
@dvshrt Yup, came here to say this. Was the first ‘heartbeat’ song that came into my mind. Figured it was the kind of retro-ironic-bad song that would make the list.
@melwin Sorry, no Don Johnson in my collection.
@SSteve I’m willing to bet that’s the first time anyone has apologized for not having Don Johnson music in their collection.
@dvshrt This is what came to mind as well. All great meh think alike…
Dee Lite - Groove is in the Heart. (Too lazy to google and paste)
“Holiday” by Weezer.
The harmonized Hea-art Bee-eat in the chorus is awesome!
There’s ATC’s “My Heart Beats Like a Drum”:
“Heart” by Pet Shop Boys, a #1 UK hit in 1987, the original working title was “Heartbeat”:
“My heart starts missing a beat, every time…”
I can’t believe no one has posted the legendary Taana Gardner disco song.
“Beat Your Heart Out” by The Distillers has been a pretty great “gonna wallow in romantic self-pity” standby for me.
And I love Islands’ “Heartbeat” as I love all Islands’ output: immensely, after disliking it at first yet not being able to stop listening to it.
