@Pavlov --- first thought that came to me when reading the question. why wouldn't you? you want to win the fight, right? sheesh, why even ask the question? you don't see the Punisher dicking around with a knife.
@caffeine_dude That's cool but the iPhone did not exist until long after the dude stood in front of the tank in Tiananmen Square.
In fact, that dude actually beat the tank (the knife beat the gun) - likely being part of the trigger opening up China's capitalist freedoms and leading to opening plants like those that would build the iPhone.
Roger Waters would not make that historical error.
@RedOak It is a song that is played by the streaming radio site I listen to, a little to quirky for my taste and I hope it goes away soon.
But, for fun, I think the writer's point was the knife lost in Tiananmen Square in the long run. The iPhone factories have horrible working conditions, a loss. There was news stories about suicides at iPhone plant a few years back. The factories have suicide nets outside the buildings. China has terrible pollution, again loss.
The Tiananmen Square protests were by students demanding more freedom, not factory workers. And China (whether by coincidence or as a result) has become far more free, so I'd argue they did win.
While the conditions in some plants surely are not wonderful, those workers freely left their agricultural villages for the higher paying factory jobs. Doesn't excuse abuse, but the choice was newly there for them to make.
And the students? They have a far freer society, still not politically free, but economically dramatically freer. And it will be very difficult for the Party to keep the politics under its control.
The standard of living is improving in China - one outward piece of evidence - production is being driven to now lower cost countries like India - and even back to the US.
Fish shanty towns have grown into cosmopolitan cities.
By polluting its own air, China has effectively sold its clean air to other countries in the form of cheap products. They recognize this. Hopefully growing economic and political freedom will overcome corrupt-crony-party bribes so they can get it under control.
I follow China pretty closely because our daughter lives there - close to my heart obviously.
@baqui63 One cannot walk away from a knife fight without being cut. The Glock is for anything that may happen at your knife fight avoidance bug out site.
You bring a sword, a peanut butter sammich, duct tape, and a change of clothes. Might be a long night? With these items, your chances improve dramatically!
As my Army DI said years ago, "If you are engaged in hand-to-hand combat, you have already fucked up. The best hand-to-hand combat move is BANG!" (With hand pistol gesture.)
Bring a gun.
@Pavlov I came here to say that.
great minds think alike.
@Pavlov stole my answer.
@baqui63 @Pavlov I was also thinking this. A la Indiana Jones
@Pavlov Stole mine as well...
@Pavlov I'll just go ahead and join the crowd here
@Pavlov Or 2. Two's good too.
@Pavlov What he said.
@Pavlov >
@Pavlov so we're all saying someone screwed up on the survey answer options.
@Pavlov Exactly so!

@Pavlov
Exactly...
@RedOak By definition it becomes a gunfight.
NSFW lyrics.

@Pavlov Uncreative minds think alike
@Pavlov well, obviously. Of course, they didn't have it in the poll, so maybe not that obvious.

@caffeine_dude gotta love how knife sales go off on tangents like this at meh.com! ;-)

Bring a monkey with a knife.
@lljk
@lljk An octopus could beat a monkey in a knife fight.
@Signorino I could beat an octopus in a knife fight, using only panko crumbs and hot oil. Besides my knife, I mean.
Just be Mick Dundee.
@Ignorant Oh how I wish he'd swallow that thing. Sideways.
Take a self-defense course.
I just give them the "Bubbles" stare. That usually works.
Send in the unicorn.

@narfcake
Unicorns win by default!!
I think the best strategy is to be at least 3 miles away from the knife fight.
With a Glock.
@Mehrocco_Mole A glock is totally useless at that range. Even a barrett rifle is basically useless from 3 miles out.
@Mehrocco_Mole

Strategy: only get into knife fights in computer/video games.
Roomba's fight like drunk toddlers (don't ask).
@caffeine_dude I would not be running around barefoot. Especially after the one took to hiding under the couch. That is one crafty machine.
@caffeine_dude I kept waiting for this to show up... better late than never
Bat or knife is really the question.
@mcanavino Nope, still Glock.
just don't bring a spoon to a knife fight.
@carl669 You read MY mind.
