I was fortunate enough to be at the first of the Atlanta shows last week. If he wasn't feeling well, it didn't show. He had full command of his craft and the room. And he played some of The Beautiful Ones as part of a medley.
@Mofongo i fell in love with a girl because of this song. we were flirting all night through text messages while i was at a work holiday party, and our flirtations consisted of sending prince lyrics to each other. later that night i went to her place and we watched purple rain, when the beautiful ones came on she had the most incredible reaction to it, it was all the things prince is, only it was her right there. that was pretty much it for me. we had a pretty great romance, but then grew apart. ive been thinking of that girl these last couple days, she was a bigger fan than i am, which is something. sadness
@1337@FroodyFrog I never meant to cause you any sorrow I never meant to cause you any pain I only wanted to one time to see you laughing I only wanted to see you Laughing in the purple rain
Confession: beyond being generally aware of his existence, I'm not terribly familiar with Prince. His stuff never seems to play on my radio or Pandora stream (despite my love of '80s rock), and every time I've tried to look him up on YouTube, all I've found is a bunch of copyright takedowns. I'm sure I heard him back in the '80s and '90s, but I was too culturally clueless to know who he was at the time.
"Raspberry Beret" gets my vote, because that's the only one I can even hum - thanks to the Hindu Love Gods' cover.
@djslack You know, I can understand his position. At the same time, though, I find myself reluctant to go out and buy an album without having any idea whether I'll like anything on it. My rule of thumb is that if I like at least three of the tracks, it's worth the risk (this has only failed me once, in what is now known as the Third Eye Blind Incident). That becomes a catch-22 if there's no way to hear those three tracks.
@dannybeans Listent to the live stream from The Current, based in Prince's hometown of Minneapolis. You'll get plenty of Prince in the coming hours. http://www.thecurrent.org
He had so many great songs, I'm not sure I could pick a favorite. I was able to see him in Omaha a few years ago. Great show. He was a great showman. My husband read a quote from Eric Clapton during an interview. It was not noted when the interview was. Clapton was asked how it felt to be the greatest guitarist alive, he said, 'I don't know, ask Prince.'
All of them. How can anyone pick only one and mean it? (I picked only one, but I didn't mean it)
Today gave me the bad feels. Cryin' in the car. That may be lame but I love me some Prince only slightly less than I loved Bowie, who was my musical god. Sad year for this. Can we be done with 2016 already?
I voted for Erotic City, which I heard on the radio — edited...really? — the other day. I'd also go with Starfish and Coffee or Housequake, or pretty much anything from Sign "" the Times. Love that album.
"Another Lonely Christmas" is going to be extra-sad this year.
Last night, I spent another lonely Christmas Darlin', darlin', you should've been there 'Cuz, all the ones I dream about You are the one that makes my love shout You see, you are the only one I care for
My mummy used to say, always trust your lover But now, I guess that only applies to her 'Cuz, baby, you promised me Baby, you promised me, you'd never leave Then you died on the 25th day of December, oh, baby
Your father said it was pneumonia Your mother said it was stress But the doctor said you were dead And I, I say it's senseless
I was about 15 years old when the movie, Purple Rain, came out, and to say it was a life-changing experience for me was an understatement. I think I saw it for the first time surrounded by about 9 female classmates, my hormones out of control, madly in love with most of them.
And Darling Nikki was probably the one I remember most from that time. Seeing those grils slow-dance around to that song, ugh! If only I knew then what I know now...
Prince meant a lot to me growing up and I associate his music with many of my fondest memories. What a tragic loss.
I have to say that I was a bit biased as I was listening to Purple Rain at the time of making my [difficult] choice, but that song has always invoked a feeling of 'Purple' for me throughout the years. In high school, Prince's music helped me be comfortable with being a person who appreciates intense intimacy, art, beauty, and my own emotions without feeling like any less of a man or taking any flak for it. Rest in Peace, Purple One.
The Beautiful Ones
@Mofongo Came here to say this, decided to agree with you instead.
@Mofongo that's the best jam by far dedicated to my wifey
@Mofongo This is the one. Always, every time.

Manic Monday, which he wrote. It got me through a lot of Mondays.
@OldCatLady I wish it was Sunday.
@PocketBrain that's my fun day
@AmazingChicken My I don't have to run day.
@woodman668 It's just another Mehnic Monday.

@gspitman I'm a little surprised this wasn't on the list. Absolutely my favorite.
@Club33NOS By far, my favorite too!!
@gspitman I'm with you here. We will just wait until the rest fall.
Sexy M.F. It's Prince's homage to George Clinton, IMO.
Batdance? Who the heck voted for Batdance?
I think it's only appropriate...
@1337
@1337 Lik didn't work for me. Can you post image?
@FroodyFrog Thanks.
@cahuston
You're welcome.
@cahuston I completely borked that link. Thanks @FroodyFrog :)
@1337
Sure thing.
It's @KDemo's fault though.
@1337 @FroodyFrog
I never meant to cause you any sorrow
I never meant to cause you any pain
I only wanted to one time to see you laughing
I only wanted to see you
Laughing in the purple rain
@KDemo
I'm not crying, I'm just rubbing and converting my eyes due to the pollen outside.
Mountains
Not that it's my favorite, but Pussy Control seems conspicuously absent.
@djslack It's my favorite and a strip club classic!
@djslack Clearly omitting it from the options is an oversight.
@djslack This song was my introduction to Prince. Funny enough, it's absent from Tidal, but IS on youtube:
Adore
This should really be a multiple choice quiz. So many good songs on that list! RIP
Rainbow Children

@dannybeans this seems relevant here: http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2016/04/21/why-you-can-t-listen-to-prince-s-music-after-his-death.html

@djslack I don't understand the contention "Why You Can't List to Prince's Music After his Death"
Sure you can. Today in particular, it is almost inescapable.
He had so many great songs, I'm not sure I could pick a favorite. I was able to see him in Omaha a few years ago. Great show. He was a great showman.

Shit, now I need a drink and a box of kleenex.
@cation I agree. Impossible to pick just one. I had not heard the news until my husband told me in an email.
LIIIIITTLE RED CORVETTE!
Because it's a song about a car that really isn't about a car at all.
What, no "Lolita"? That's the song that got me into Prince. The beat is just so smooth and catchy, it's amazing.
Darlin' Nicky...is so sticky...
Prince, shredding "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" is beyond the pale.
His solo is about 2/3 of the way through. To say he crushes it would be a vast understatement
I voted for Erotic City, which I heard on the radio — edited...really? — the other day. I'd also go with Starfish and Coffee or Housequake, or pretty much anything from Sign "" the Times. Love that album.
"Walk Don't Walk". It's on Diamonds & Pearls. That one really really shoulda been a single.
The movie version of "It's Gonna Be A Beautiful Night."
So sad today. I loved Prince. My favorite artist of all time.
Which ever one was playing while my parents were making me.
"Another Lonely Christmas" is going to be extra-sad this year.

You're all wrong, the correct answer is clearly "Rock and Roll is Alive (and it lives in Minneapolis):

@noot dude, what a party
Also, "Take Me With U"
Take Me With U
Yeah... I'll be honest. Never was a fan. I totally respect the guy's musical talent, but I've always hated his music.
@TBoneZeOriginal I thought I was the only one.
@TBoneZeOriginal Who is Prince?

But it was Saturday Night, I guess that makes it all right....
