@Cerridwyn@ChompyGator wow, we have had 40-50f days just couple days ago, there is a rumor it might be in the upper 80’s next week, I would not be surprised if it then drops into the mid 60’s again.
@PooltoyWolf well I understand a bit about FLA. It still get COLD. In fact one of the Space Shuttle got so COLD that It blew up!
Plus I live in FLA for a while, Titusville, my Dad wasn’t on the construction crew building the Space Center. A few years back! 30F is good for ya!
All you southern folks have NO idea what winter’s really like! Up here in the Midwest it usually lasts from late October to early June! We have frost warnings tonight! Then it will be 78-80 on Saturday and Sunday with thunderstorms! That’s spring weather; we get that till July then it’s summertime heat & humidity, thunderstorms & tornadoes well until mid-September. Then a brief fall with wonderful colorful leaves and mild temperatures, Apple and pumpkin picking then more rain and dropping temperatures. Before climate change we had longer springs & autumns. So it goes……
All you southern folks have NO idea what winter’s really like!
Having lived in upper Minnesota for several years, including International Falls (AKA frostbite falls) before ending up in Central Alabama I would beg to differ. BTDT
Average last frost in IF is June 4th. First frost mid September. Generally at least a week to 10 days of never-above-zero temperatures sometime in January or so. This is where I learned that 40 below Fahrenheit is the same temperature as 40 below centigrade… and very cold!
Got to admit I prefer the March to November growing season down here…
@jkawaguchi@mehvid1
I think 5+ years counts as living in it. Absolutes are a bitch…
Plus, I grew up in St Louis (17+ yrs). It got cold as shit in winter and hot as hell in summer. You were screwed either way.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@chienfou@jkawaguchi@mehvid1 You don’t know heat till you spend a Summer in the South. Yes we have weeks in the 90’s, But a lot of places do, But we have humidity, like 80+% on top of the 90f heat. then factor in the Flying critters that LOVES your Blood!
@kittykat9180@werehatrack
I have been extremely grateful for the temperate weather we’ve had here. Normally this time of year we are also hitting the 90s, but we’ve been having low 80 days and low sixties nights. I still haven’t fired up the AC. In fact my thermostat sent me a text saying I had saved 88% of my electricity usage for my HVAC system over the previous month (April vs March).
I’m going to miss not feeling like I’m sweating to death and heating up like a furnace from needing to wear these wicked thick custom made compression garments.
I also won’t miss the hives I get from my allergy to the cold, cold urticaria.
I do not like cold months at all.
I do not even like the Fall.
When the cold begins to come,
I have to dodge the coughs from some.
We are not made for long dark nights.
we should be out and flying kites.
I do not like the cold, it’s true.
I guess I’m just one of the few.
@TheDagda
The cold months wouldn’t be so bad
If some respite from work were had!
Humans maintain their pell-mell gait
while sens’ble mammals hibernate.
But labor calls, so up we get
Before sunrise, well past sunset.
While nature tells us, stay in bed!
We groan and rise and off we head.
I think that, in a better world,
We’d welcome winter’s dark unfurled.
Snug and warm, we’d catch up sleep
And let snow fall, silent and deep.
What is this cold of which you speak?
@Cerridwyn I wish I knew, it’s been 100°F the last couple of days.
@Cerridwyn @ChompyGator wow, we have had 40-50f days just couple days ago, there is a rumor it might be in the upper 80’s next week, I would not be surprised if it then drops into the mid 60’s again.
Rain
Being able to go outside without dying of heatstroke.
No flies, no mosquitoes, no gnats, no swamp-ass
@TheGreatNico I came here to say exactly THIS!!
@TheGreatNico @tohar1 SAAAMMMMMEEE.
I’m hoping a late freeze will delay the mosquitoes, but the gnats just hit, and I’ve been pulling a couple ticks off the dog every week.
The cold itself!
@PooltoyWolf wow…
@mycya4me Native Floridian here.
@PooltoyWolf well I understand a bit about FLA. It still get COLD. In fact one of the Space Shuttle got so COLD that It blew up!

@jkawaguchi not “all you” southern folks. Some of us have traveled to, or lived in, cold climes during our lives.
@chienfou you beat me to it by a few seconds.
@chienfou @mehvid1
This was for all the folks that haven’t lived in a place with winter weather. Living in it is the point of the comment.
@jkawaguchi @mehvid1

@jkawaguchi I think we all got the point. We’re just giving you a hard time & picking nits. Cheers.

So do some places in the Midwest and around the great lakes. @chienfou @jkawaguchi @mehvid1 @mycya4me
@user74860313
I know that … See comment above
Yeah, it’s just May, and the temps are already topping 90F. It’s going to be a brutal summer.
@werehatrack
Same at my house.
@kittykat9180 @werehatrack

@chienfou @werehatrack
I had my HVAC off for months but just had to turn it on a couple days ago.
The electric bill I received in April was only $38.
@kittykat9180

/giphy killin’ it
Having it not be 100F plus
/showme a temperature reading from July in Death Valley
@f00l Here’s the image you requested for “a temperature reading from July in Death Valley”
@f00l
Wow, it heated up 7° in 10 mins.
@f00l @kittykat9180
Grammar & English Teacher enters the chat.
"I believe you mean, “Wow, it warmed up 7 degrees in 10 minutes.”
“That being said, good job on punctuation! Your usage of a comma was, well placed.”
@kittykat9180 @TheDagda
wow,!
I, don’t, know, how; to, use, a! comma,?
, ; )
/giphy “misplaced comma”

@TheDagda Check your comma (mis)usage. Also, you placed quotes (instead of single quotes) inside of quotes (quotation marks, to be clear).
@mehvid1 Yeah, I need to stop using cheap AI algorithms for witty comments.
@TheDagda
@f00l But what was the humidity?
@mehvid1 @TheDagda
Your usage of a comma was, well, placed.
But not correctly!
@Kyeh @mehvid1 Way to take from American sarcasm, deep into British sarcasm territory.
@Kyeh @mehvid1 @TheDagda
what’s in the road ahead?
what’s in the road, a head?
/giphy “on the road again”

@mycya4me
re humidity
temps don’t get that hot in very humid climates. normally. currently.
for ex Houston vs Presidio or El Paso in summer
overall I prefer slightly drier climates, provided no serious local water shortages.
am totally fond of the great western deserts.
/showme a climate so humid it’s like being underwater
Nothing
@ladyhawke001 Same here
@ladyhawke001

@ladyhawke001 I came here to say this.
Less insects from hell. No lawn mowing, even though I don’t have a lawn to mow. I just figure someone is not going to miss that
@heartny
I don’t have a loan either but I have outdoor plants that need watered.
Not having to worry so much about wildfires.
I need the cold back…
I’m going to miss not feeling like I’m sweating to death and heating up like a furnace from needing to wear these wicked thick custom made compression garments.

I also won’t miss the hives I get from my allergy to the cold, cold urticaria.
Lack of humidity
The temperature not being 90°+
My low electric bill
My low water bill
@kittykat9180 well my electric bill nearly doubles during the colder months! I get lower electric bills during the Hotter months!
@mycya4me
I take it you don’t live in the desert.
@kittykat9180 Nope 100 miles from the ocean on the east coast
No mosquitoes, flies, etc.
I do not like cold months at all.
I do not even like the Fall.
When the cold begins to come,
I have to dodge the coughs from some.
We are not made for long dark nights.
we should be out and flying kites.

@TheDagda
@TheDagda So sad, But folks in Alaska & some of Canada only see the sun for a few minutes a day! Of course not where I live!
@TheDagda

Our winter this year was so warm, very strange. The spring has been surprisingly cold (or maybe not, given the winter).
I will miss the 82F days of winter. 🥹
Relatively guilt-free days where I can lounge around napping/reading/watching video/etc. without feeling like I’m shirking outside chores.
