@Fuzzalini Ah, thanks for that tidbit of information. Had no idea about him. Maybe I should watch more news. Seriously though, even if I did see him on the news, when it was happening, I probably wouldn’t have recognized the name because it’s not the type of comedy routine I grew up with.
@tightwad I love clean comics…it takes a lot more work and is also fun to share with my kids. I know all the dirty jokes and the swear words…that’s just cheating for an uncomfortable laugh.
Tom Scharpling.
Not stand up, but the funniest person. He has a radio show called The Best Show. It’s up as a podcast at thebestshow.net
Be patient. It pays off, then you’ll be obsessed.
sadly…nobody is funny right now.
can’t say nothin edgy or inappropriate or insulting or controversial.
this pc stuff makes everyone just kinda of preachy… afraid to say much of anything funny.
it is BORING as hell.
Bumping mics with Dave attell and Jeff Ross is completely inappropriate to watch with company but is one of the funniest shows ever. So vulgar, so gross, so lewd, but also so funny.
Patton is still my fav comedian. Mitch hedburg is a close second. There are some hilarious ppl but omg I can’t stand Maria bamford. She makes me want to drives spikes into my ears to make her voice stop. I like Eugene mirman and kristin schaal too.
Gary Gulman, Greg Warren, Kathleen Madigan, Tig Notaro (can you tell I like the story tellers?)…
(as I write this list and read through the other’s, I noticed it really sways toward white comedians, and comedy is very culturally influenced, so does this say something about Meh’s core consumer, those who take the poll, those who bother to comment, all, none? Just curious.)
@Limewater@Sam5max I remember when Bo Burnham was just a kid on YouTube. Then one day I saw a clip of him and realized he had moved on to having a comedy special.
@djslack@Sam5max Yeah. I saw him live on one of his first tours. He was actually opening for Finesse Mitchell. It was a college campus, and I’m pretty sure 97% of the audience was there for Burnham.
I personally think nobody mixes bitingly funny content with underlying (or overt) societal commentary like Chris Rock. He’s probably my favorite standup.
Not sure how many have heard Chad Daniels, but this guy has been at it for over a decade, and I always love when I get a chance to see/hear from him. He’s funny, poignant, and I really connect with his humor…maybe because he grew up in the same town as me (Fergus Falls, MN). Check him out!! He does have a new routine on Amazon Prime out this month titled “Dad Chaniels”
Here’s one from a couple years ago… Chad Daniels Stand-Up Routine
I remember not really finding Ali Wong that funny last I watched her, and I don’t watch a lot of stand up, so I think Dave Chapelle was the last person who made me laugh by just telling jokes on stage.
Lewis Black. His outrage is what we all have, and funny AF.
" Everything in Ireland happens at the pub. They may have AA meetings, but the probably happen at the pub"
@sammydog01
@therealjrn You need to get out more.
@sammydog01 Yeahbutt there’s people out there.
I haven’t heard of any of those listed.
@cengland0 What planet are you living on?
@Fuzzalini Planet Earth but live in the state of confusion.
@cengland0 Just FYI, Hannibal Buress is pretty much the reason Bill Cosby was arrested for sexual assault and may have inadvertantly started the #MeToo movement. All with a stand-up routine.

Jim Gaffigan and Brian Regan
@tightwad Hoooot pockettttts!
@curtise Yummmm
@tightwad I love clean comics…it takes a lot more work and is also fun to share with my kids. I know all the dirty jokes and the swear words…that’s just cheating for an uncomfortable laugh.
George Carlin is even more relevant than he was before. Sadly…
@rpg714 I miss him.
I never have any idea WTF’s going on with these pop culture polls…
@shahnm John Mulaney is the really tall child in a suit
@shahnm I’ve felt that way for the last 28 years since I was 10 years old.
David Koechner of course!
The orange one, what’s his name… oh yeah, Carrot Top.
Whitney Cummings
Tom Scharpling.
Not stand up, but the funniest person. He has a radio show called The Best Show. It’s up as a podcast at thebestshow.net
Be patient. It pays off, then you’ll be obsessed.
Eddie Murphy, Robin Williams, Jay Mohr, Chris Tucker, Chris Rock… So many more… go back and look up the greats!
Is Russell Peters still considered current?
OK then, Superwoman and Liza Koshy.
@2many2no !XOBILE
Bill Burr has some good stuff.
@DJ i haven’t seen his standup but i love F is for Family!
I love John Mulaney! Also Gary Gulman, Bert Kreischer, & Tom Segura
@moonhat
I AM THE MACHINE!!
I have enjoyed Tom Papa: both his stand-up routine and his Live From Here radio bits
@2palms Have you ever spent an hour on a Saturday listening to a mid-westerner drone on about the strange people he meets across America?
I have.
Jim Gaffigan
Kathleen Madigan
Demetri Martin, Jim Gaffigan, Zack Galifianakis, Steve Martin, Steven Wright, Mitch Hedberg, Brian Regan, and many more.
@tonylegrone I second Demetri Martin!
@tonylegrone I don’t think Mitch Hedberg can be considered “modern”, since he’s dead.
@smyle oh you’re right. I didn’t read the question properly. You can scratch him off the list.
@smyle @tonylegrone lol I don’t think you can call any of these guys modern. Either way, cool is all about leather sleeves.
@smyle @zinimusprime Demetri Martin, Jim Gaffigan, and Brian Regan all have released new material within the last year. That seems modern enough to me.
@smyle @tonylegrone I stand corrected. Also I stand on my legs.
@smyle @zinimusprime I forgot to list Trevor Noah and Ellen. They’re also great.
@tonylegrone I still prefer Hedberg. Even dead he’s funny.
Don Rickles
sadly…nobody is funny right now.
can’t say nothin edgy or inappropriate or insulting or controversial.
this pc stuff makes everyone just kinda of preachy… afraid to say much of anything funny.
it is BORING as hell.
@mick See my Jimmy Carr video below.
@mick if you have Netflix, watch Anthony Jeselnik’s Thoughts and Prayers.
@RiotDemon Stoked for his new special to drop this month.
@megancricket me too!!
Sometimes l think you guys just make stuff up to see if people will pick stuff that is non existent. Makes meh my favorite comedian
Tom Segura, his specials are all on Netflix
Aparna Nancherla
Bruce Bruce or Jon Reep are two of the funniest I have ever seen live.
Josh Blue - He uses his cerebral palsy to his full advantage in his comedy. Went to see him in person and literally hurt from laughing so hard.
Nate Bargatze
Regan, Gaffigan, Maddigan and any others whose name ends with GAN.
G-ary gulm-AN
Red Skelton, Jerry Clower, Robin Williams
Kyle Kinane, Kurt Braunohler, Joe DeRosa
Louis CK and Jo Koy
Anthony Jeselnik

@ivannabc +1 for Eugene Mirman.
@ivannabc @Limewater Dunno the others but Hedburg is about the only one I listen to.
@ivannabc Bumping Mics made me pee myself. I had to stop watching it. Can only take in short bursts. Insanely funny.
I like the guy with the puppets.
@sammydog01
/image Jeff Dunham
@RiotDemon I was thinking of this guy but Dunham is good too.
@sammydog01 I’m not sure that 1964 is current
I had no idea who Maria Bamford was until this poll. Just watched some videos of her. She’s not in the least bit funny.
Oswald is funny, but the single funniest person right now is Brian Regan.
Dry Bar Comedy has comedians that are funny without having to work blue
Gary Gulman, Greg Warren, Kathleen Madigan, Tig Notaro (can you tell I like the story tellers?)…
(as I write this list and read through the other’s, I noticed it really sways toward white comedians, and comedy is very culturally influenced, so does this say something about Meh’s core consumer, those who take the poll, those who bother to comment, all, none? Just curious.)
Brian Regan and Bo Burnham all day
@Sam5max +1 for Bo Burnham. I’m surprised he wasn’t on the poll or mentioned higher up in the comments.
@Limewater @Sam5max I remember when Bo Burnham was just a kid on YouTube. Then one day I saw a clip of him and realized he had moved on to having a comedy special.
Yada yada, get off my lawn, lol.
@djslack @Sam5max Yeah. I saw him live on one of his first tours. He was actually opening for Finesse Mitchell. It was a college campus, and I’m pretty sure 97% of the audience was there for Burnham.
James Acaster right now is mine
@morris2088 ditto
@morris2088 You’ve been cabbadged.
I enjoy Ron Funches, especially when he laughs.
Trevor Noah has me laughing at the moment.
my fave for the moment, Shang Forbes
Mulaney. Whitney Cummings. Ron Funches.
Lewis Black!
@bocoroth how is this not MORE popular.
Preacher Lawson!
Zoltan Kaszas (seeing him Friday!)
The rest of these guys are okay, but Sam Tallent is the funniest person on this planet.
I personally think nobody mixes bitingly funny content with underlying (or overt) societal commentary like Chris Rock. He’s probably my favorite standup.
John Crist
Norm MacDonald
@teledude87 Still one of the greats.
@cinoclav @teledude87 I picked up his book on kindle. It was funny.
Here’s one from a couple years ago…
Chad Daniels Stand-Up Routine
Meh. Standup’s not funny. It’s always either screaming, dick jokes on a stage, or preachy simplistic nonsense.
Though I did like some Chappelle that I saw.
Brian Regan
I remember not really finding Ali Wong that funny last I watched her, and I don’t watch a lot of stand up, so I think Dave Chapelle was the last person who made me laugh by just telling jokes on stage.
I cannot believe no one has mentioned Fluffy!! He is the best
Doug Stanhope.
Mediocrebot
at least it thinks its funny
Jimmy Carr, a foul-mouthed comedian that will never break into the straight-laced USA.
@Evansdoor I posted a video of him above. He absolutely kills me.
Lewis Black. His outrage is what we all have, and funny AF.
" Everything in Ireland happens at the pub. They may have AA meetings, but the probably happen at the pub"
Bill Burr. No contest.
