@hchavers I haven’t flown much and I thought I’d never be able to sleep but on a very long flight from Norita, Japan to Singapore I zonked out for a really long time. I was finally awakened by some REALLY rough turbulence. Things that weren’t secured were flying all over. I thought seatbelt warnings for turbulence were unnecessary. Not after that.
@guyfromhawthorn@unksol Last night, Dude3 was accidentally left in the other half of the house, so Momcat6 spent pretty much the whole night by the connecting door. It was MUCH more peaceful without those two in the bedroom. (And much less snugglesome at times, too.)
I live way out in the sticks. As such I do not have any window coverings, since only the wild life look in. So in the summer it is light when I go to bed and when I wake up. In the winter the opposite is true. And I sleep well all year long. So I guess I do not care.
@rancho might be the ambient noise. If you’re far enough out/in the right place it’s dead silent and no unnatural light… The type of place you can really see the stars. That’s some deep sleep
So if you can sleep through a polka or a schottische, you’re ok, eh? Slow down the music, take two steps to the right and two steps to the left and then a turn in four steps.
If you can do this while asleep, my friend, you may have the dreaded schottische noctambulate syndrome. Seek help immediately before it degrades into deadly polka noctambulism.
And then…and then…and then… you may be doomed to forever dance the Zombie Polka
Lyrics – Zombie Polka
When the shadows fall on the cemetery wall
And there’s no one else around
And you feel like someone’s watching you
From six feet underground
When the moon is high and the eerie eye
Of a black cat falls upon ya
One by one through the mist they come
to do the Zombie Polka
And their bony hands will beckon you
To join their ghostly dance
And you’ll wonder why you chose tonight
To wear your polka pants
When the raven cries in the darkened skies
And the tombstones topple over
The church bells chime in 2/4 time
They do the Zombie Polka
Zombie Polka pulls you closer with a deadly beat
Zombie Polka run for home before they eat your feet
If you dance tonight they will take a bite
And make you one of them
Then you’ll lie and wish for a night like this
To rise and dance again
When you hear the moans
And their creaky bones
Are reaching out to choke ya
If you don’t run, before the night is done
You’ll do the Zombie Polka
Oh they all come and dance about
And do the Zombie Polka
I can’t sleep with any light, even alarm clock light bother me (I don’t even have one). I always figured that’s why I can’t take naps. I slept in a basement for about a year when I was a teenager, nothing beat that. Absolute darkness and cool air.
The amount of light doesn’t matter as long as it remains consistent. I’ve been sleeping with my light on lately because the street lights outside turn off at random intervals.
I don’t care, sleep is sleep.
Can’t be too trunk like.
Needs a comfortably resilient horizontal surface of appropriate size.
I generally prefer totally dark.
But lately, have been falling asleep with the lights (and clothes and footware) still on.
Conclusion: meh
Dark, but small light sources such as clocks (dimmed) are not a problem. Also need white noise of some kind.
I have my own built-in white noise.
@haydesigner I’m not sure snoring is considered white noise by anyone other than the one doing the snoring.
@lisagd I was referring to tinnitus.
@haydesigner I have it too. And I snore. Not sure what that says about my sleep.
I wear a sleep mask. Doesn’t matter. But morning light affects me more than falling asleep at night.
/giphy morning light
Lighting is irrelevant to me when it comes to sleep. Fortunately.
Quiet and not moving. That’s why I can’t sleep on the long plane rides.

Just enough light to find my way to the bathroom in a hurry.
The bedroom. (I think it’s why they call it that.)
It has to have zero kids running into it… So I just generally don’t get to sleep
@guyfromhawthorn kids… Cats… Zoomies… Effective sleep interupers

Room? Do you mean coffin?
I’m still trying to figure out what’s in between “totally dark” and “some light”.
@donpratt Near Dark!!

@yakkoTDI That looks pretty good, how have i never heard of it before now??
@ircon96 It is one of my favourite vampyre movies. Also enjoyable since it has three of the cast from Aliens.
@yakkoTDI Thanks for the rec, I’ll have to try to find it. I love vampire movies AND Kathryn Bigelow movies, so it’s definitely on my list now!
The darker the room the better sleep you get. So That’s why I sleep with a sleep mask.
/showme no sleep without a mask
@Chronicle I think it has to be on the first line.
@blaineg @Chronicle Yeppers. First and only line.
The blinds in my room are dual light filtering or room darkening. I like it dark.
How would I know what conditions you like to sleep in?
Odd poll question…

Meh. I can sleep with or without light, bright, dim or in between. My suprachiasmatic nucleus apparently is indifferent to light.
(If one sleeps in total darkness, does that mean it is “heavy” as opposed to light?)
A number of studies show that sleeping with even a small amount of light has a physical effect on the body, mostly adverse.
Circadian rhythms are affected.
Canadian rhythms, OTH, aren’t.

@Jackinga Bravo!
@Jackinga
Nice
@Jackinga must be fun to be friends with you. Not being sarcastic. That’s quite a lot lol

Well, that was exitaining.

I’m not sure that’s an improvement.
