The goat lives. The Fuko is awarded.
72Hi everyone! @Pavlov is doing well. He has one (hopefully) final small surgery ahead of him next week, and then he's on to physical therapy once he is released. I keep telling him that if he doesn't behave, he's going to end up in a nursing home until he is better - he's quite the handful (and I don't know how much more I can take).
He consistently calls and asks the switchboard for "Dr. Brody" to be paged (they occasionally still actually fall for it - he's disappointed when more people don't get the joke). He has actually tried to tip a few of the better looking nurses and female aides by holding dollar bills between his teeth after his sponge bath (I now have to attend to it myself as they refuse - go figure) - and when he disagrees with a treatment plan he nags his physicians into submission telling them that they have all taken a "hypocritical oath". They now refrain from even attempting to correct him. The nutritionist left in tears after losing an argument with him regarding the efficacy and safety of a long term modified "Atkins" based meal plan, and he sent her a huge box of Omaha Steaks "as an apology" (she follows a strict vegan diet). She sent the steaks back to the room with a kind note of refusal of the gift, so he talked the night shift nursing supervisor into bringing a hibachi on her day off and she wheeled him to a courtyard and they grilled the steaks two at a time outside and gave them to the staff on his floor with a note "Compliments of __ (he inserted the nutritionist's name). She got 30 notes of thanks the next morning for the wonderful steaks (and now she has a carnivore label slapped on her by extension)
Three times now I have confiscated beer from his room. He won't tell me how he gets it brought up to him or where they keep it for him, but the empties always outnumber the full - and somehow, they are always ice cold. With regards to his drinking by the way, he now proclaims that pills are better and faster and has decided that this experience has taught him that morphine might be a better choice. That conversation ended quickly when I realized he might be serious and I started throwing things at his balls - and the bedside lamp I heaved at him subsequently connected with the intended target.
He quickly recanted.
@Starblind - I'm sorry there was a mix up awarding you the box that was prepared prior to my leaving for Minnesota. I'm back in KC this evening and after discussing things with @Pavlov, we've decided to award you the fukōbukuro that was slated for later this month instead of sending you a box of knives, rechargeable batteries, Pinewood Derby cars, etc. We've something very special in mind to reward you for your patience.
So - we give to you, fukōbukuro, literally. You, @Starblind, are now the proud owner of fukobukuro.com and utsubukuro.com. Use them well, or sell them in the domain secondary market - or have a contest of your own and pass them on to some other sucker - it is completely up to you - they belong to you. Enjoy owning Fuko. Contact me at the email address you have on file, and we'll get the transfer done expeditiously. I will be available at that address from now on - it will not be (mis)handled by my husband's office.
@JonT, @Pavlov sends his warmest regards to you and to everyone at Mediocre for the wonderfully thoughtful get well card. Thank you all for your kind thoughts. It was a wonderful surprise, and it made his day!
And, a HUGE thank you to the Meh community for all of the good wishes expressed here in the forum and those sent via email. Your comments and hope for a speedy recovery go a long way to brightening what have been quite a few dim days.
I've got to run - I popped down here to get my son and take him up for Father's Day - which also happens to fall on our son's eleventh birthday this year!
Thanks again everyone!

We are so happy that @Pavlov is doing well. And thank you @MrsPavlov for the update.
Thank you @MrsPavlov for the update- @Pavlov sounds like quite a character, and very much a handful. For both of your sakes I hope he has a speedy and full recovery.
I am happy. I am very happy.
Oh wow, @Pavlov on serious drugs, and confined to the hospital. I think we imagined him subdued, pale and quiet. He sounds like his inner Merry Prankster is flying free. His legend will live on at the hospital, if it survives him. Doctors, nurses and nutritionists will talk about him for years. I like the beers, very vitaminy and all that. Give him our best wishes and thanks so much for the update, @MrsPavlov. Happy Father's Day.
This made me happier than a birthday. Thanks, @MrsPavlov, for the great update. @Pavlov, I owe you another beer just for the discovery of something as nonsensical as a vegan nutritionist. Lacking a Dr. Howard, Fine, or Howard, let alone Quackenbush, you filled their shoes admirably. (And that wing of the hospital must have smelled so fucking great.) Looking forward to your return when you're ready.
@editorkid I ran into a vegan nutritionist once too, she was vegan by choice due to her religious beliefs but counseled people on all dietary choices well without getting preachy about her own diet. If I remember right she was an Eastern Orthodox or Greek Orthodox Christian - there are several religions whose adherents practice veganism or vegetarianism.
Great story, @MrsPavlov. Sounds like he knows just how to get the hospital staff to expedite his treatment plan so he can go home as soon as possible! Have a great Father's Day/birthday together, but don't forget to take some time for yourself.
Great news! Happy Father's Day to @Pavlov, and a Happy Birthday to Pavlov the younger.
I think @MrsPavlov deserves a huge thank you card for taking such good care of @Pavlov and a Hope He Gets Well SOON card! After reading this story, I think she might be a saint.
Great story but anything unusual happen?
Way to take Creative Services to a whole new level! Now go home.
Bravo @Pavlov! And even more @MrsPavlov ! Best wishes to you both and your family.
@MrsPavlov Your husband's hospital stay seems to have a lot in common with that curse "may your life be 'interesting' ". LOL. Sounds like he will be lucky if that nutritionist doesn't tell the kitchen to substitute soy 'meat' for any dinner he still will be eating there and that he doesn't get "meat allergy" stamped on his chart.
Glad he feels well enough to entertain himself pulling jokes on everyone. Hope you live to tell the tale - you might need a nice relaxing vacation, by yourself, 1/2 way around the world when this is all said and done (grin).
@MrsPavlov while everybody is focused on your husbands recovery - which is paramount. It should also be recognized that your families gift to @Starblind is an amazing one!

THAT IS AWESOME! @Pavlov - But don't think that lets you off in the future - you have another month coming when you are well.
I'm very glad to read that @Pavlov is recovering well and engaging in high jinks.
Can someone explain the joke in paging Dr. Brody for me, though?
@jqubed I figured that you were probably joking but realize that a lot of people don't get the joke, so here ya go.
@volcanic Oh man, I forgot about that! And @Pavlov ended up at the Mayo Clinic, didn't he?
@jqubed That is where @Mrspavlov said he had been sent after being stabilized locally, yes.
I must thank you for the wonderful laugh. Sallie said I was as bad during my hospital stay for 3 weeks, but they had me on the same stuff that killed Michael Jackson... So lots and lots and lots of hallucinations... like I suite there was a pool outside of my window... it was just the church of scientology building I kept seeing... wishing in itself is just as scary of a thought on it's own... dilaudid was my pain med of choice... and the nurses hated me cause I would try to do everything myself out of pride... So enjoy this time and my thoughts are with him...
Thank you sharing the good news and the wonderful stories. I have no doubt the stories of his hospital stay will be shared by the staff for years to come.
Be sure to take care of yourself while you're busy taking care of him. I know this can be tough on everyone involved.
Yay, thank you! I accept the domain names and will do something weird with them probably, and perhaps in accordance with their original Japanese meanings, fukōbukuro (lit. "unlucky bag") and utsubukuro (lit. "mostly pictures of erotically Photoshopped jellyfish"). At least, until the inevitable Amazon takeover of them both after which they won't be as good.

@Starblind Fine print. (By accepting this prize you also accept being the July Goat).
Can I also just say - I am really surprised Meh. does not already own that domain name. Make it rain Meh.
So glad to hear @Pavlov is healing and acting like himself. I'm sure he's giving everyone a run for their money. Thank you, @MrsPavlov for taking the time to update us here in this corner of the internet.
The fuko prize is fantastic!
Now uh... I think we need to talk about @Pavlov being the only goat in history to try to take himself out of office.
Thanks for the update and I'm glad to hear he's doing well!
I'm so glad to hear the good news!
so glad to hear the mending is coming along and pavlov is quite the jokester.
What a great update! Thanks @MrsPavlov. I'm glad he's feeling better, and it sounds like he's making all the right decisions. Beer and steak have powerful healing abilities. And I'm not just saying that. I married a nurse, which pretty much makes me a doctor.
I recommend @Pavlov begin asking for Children's Chewable Morphine. They're going to tell you there's no such thing. Don't listen to them! Just keep asking everyone.
Also, more beer. It's better than water, WHICH IS FOUND IN TOILETS. Just sayin.
Thanks for the update @MrsPavlov. I'm delighted to hear @Pavlov is doing well. I hope he sails through that final surgery and makes a swift and full recovery. I also hope he understands how lucky he is to have you @MrsPavlov. Wishing for all the best for the entire Pavlov family.
That fuko prize is genius. Absolute genius.
Yeah! So happy to hear he's coming along so well. Please send along my well wishes. And thank YOU for taking time out of what I'm sure is a busy and exhausting time to keep us all updated.
So very good to hear. And as a healthcare professional who works in a hospital, I would love to have @Pavlov as my patient. Morphine might knock out the pain, but laughter will always be the best medicine.
.....and my wife says I'm a PITA.
@MrsPavlov you are probably eligible for canonization!
Thank you for the update. It seems that @Pavlov must be feeling a lot better if he can successfully disrupt the Mayo.
@Pavlov, I can hardly wait for your more than ample prankster prowess to return to the forums. A hearty meh! to you, sir.
@MrsPavlov so happy to hear the good news! Very glad he got the card and enjoyed it.
I loved your stories and wouldn't expect anything less from @Pavlov. Can't wait to have him back.
@MrsPavlov I reread your post today and decided that you are my hero.
@MrsPavlov.. I think @pavlov is related to my husband. He does quite similar things when hospitalized! My husband found the steaks/vegan story very amusing. I think I gave him new ideas should he ever be hospitalized again.
