Looks like Ranger Mike will be on the site describing the bear’s activities tonight (Thurs 6/30) at 11:00 Eastern.
@KDemo That’s so late for me, but I would like to hear from Ranger Mike.
@sammydog01 - The rangers come around pretty often during the Summer. If you miss this one, there will be other opportunities.
Also, you can scroll back to see the conversation.
@sammydog01 -Oh, I think I misspoke - this one is audio, so not sure if it will be available later. they do it lots, though.
Notice the bears are rather skinny now, after hibernating. In a few weeks they will be so much fatter!

BEARS!!!
Bears are by far my favorite animal.
@conandlibrarian
I’m working on a theory that bears are just bigger and better dogs. This theory has zero science behind it.
@vanslaterco - You may be right!
But I don’t want to know what would happen if you started throwing tennis balls at a bear.
@vanslaterco If zoo’s taught me anything, bears love balls. So, probably some funny stuff!
da bears.
Shower time in the meadow.
Num. Salmon is delicious!
@KDemo I was just watching the cam about an hour ago. They are still really thin.
@conandlibrarian - Oh, did you hear Ranger Mike? The audio was kind of grizzly this time, but it is always fascinating.
@KDemo I didn’t. I have got to come on when he is speaking.
Between this and the Olympics later this summer, I’m going to get nothing done at work.
@conandlibrarian - If it helps, they won’t be fishing at the falls all summer, just a few weeks. Then, after the salmon spawn and come back downstream to die, the bears snack in the lower river area and sightings are more hit-or-miss.
Can’t really help with the Olympics, although it seems some athletes are opting out. Bears aren’t afraid of no wimpy little mosquito.
Bear watchers might appreciate this interactive map of the Katmai area. Click ‘Katmai Ntl Park’, ‘Brooks Lodge’, then ‘Falls Platform’ to see behind the scenes at the Brooks Falls bear viewing area.
Sooo many bears right now!!! They all look like they have been eating too!!
Bears are patient.
@MrMark - I feel like the bears waiting for fish at the falls look just the same as you and I watching the bears waiting for fish at the falls.
Seven bears and Ranger Mike right now!
@sammydog01 this is awesome!
@conandlibrarian THERE IS A CUB!!!
@conandlibrarian Two cubs!
Mama bear and 3 cubs. Now.
@Barney So cute.
@sammydog01 You got to see 'em?
@Barney Yep, for a bit. I just went back and am watching them earlier. Thanks for the heads up.
@sammydog01 Well, she put all of them ol’ male bears to shame. She was so efficient at catching the fish. She had herself and those cubs fed in no time. She should give the others fishing lessons.
/image we can do it
@Barney - The most adorable things ever! So cute! Thanks for the heads up.
I can bearly believe it.
Mama and cubs are back on the lip of the falls.
@KDemo
Oh, and a bonus ranger talk! Starting now (5:00 pm Pacific)
