@Mac454 It looked like they got dominated until the last half of the 4th quarter. Really pulled it out at the last minute, exciting game. Wonder how many people left the stadium early?
With Sherman and Thomas injured, it will be curious to see how this plays out. I don't think the Patriots have played a truly great defense this year (Bills were prob the best defense they went up against) so if the Seahawks can fill in for those injuries and shut down Brady, I don't see the Patriots stopping Wilson.
@dis_member You just made two huge leaps of faith: Replacing one of the two best corners in the league with someone comparable and shutting down one of the greatest quarterbacks (and possibly the greatest postseason qb) of all time. Sure, IF the Pats keep Wilson in the pocket and don't allow Lynch to break any big runs, the Seahawks will have trouble winning. These are all infinitely easier said than done.
@dis_member Miami had a stout defense, but that's when the Pats were playing like crap, so it's hard to say. I also don't think the Patriots will have a hard time stopping the Seahawks defense. The packers didn't seem to have too much trouble with it, and Belicheck is one of the best at figuring out a defensive strategy. Besides, he doesn't have to shut down an offense when brute force (aka, scoring more than someone else) works well.
@Mac454 Playing sports I understand. As an adult sitting around watching "professionals" play a game does not appeal to me. I really don't get it. So it's not that I don't care about sports, I just don't care about watching other people play sports. The last one I really actively watched was Steelers / Cowboys in Super Bowl 13 when I was 11.
@Headly Maybe you are not thinking about the social aspect of watching sports. It's en excuse for family and friends to get together, eat food, drink beer, and have fun. Sports, for the most part, are the backdrop.
@Teripie Three way conflagration. Those who give a shit make up two camps. Those who realize how pointless pro sports are make up the third and get to look down on the first two!
@duodec I get to spend quality time with my dad and family for many Sundays a year rooting for a common interest. It also allows me to engage in great conversations with people I'd otherwise probably not converse with, maybe because they're wearing something as simple as a hat with a team logo. The teams and players also bring millions back to the communities around them while donating millions to various charities. Oh, and when 9/11 happened for example, when baseball started up again, it gave hundreds of thousands of people in New York a chance to start getting back to what we consider normal while bringing a sense of national pride to the country.
Couldn't tell if you were being sarcastic or not, so forgive me if you were, but calling pro sports pointless is akin to calling any entertainment pointless.
@Mac454 I used to watch football every weekend. My husband didn't, but I had the games on, even if I didn't just sit there and watch. Then Michael Vick was Subway's "Sportsman of the Year". That was the last time I watched football.
@Mac454 ... I have to agree with you mac (without prejudice) as it's all entertainment to the viewer and anything more is left to the speculator/gambler.
@Teripie Lots of problems with this. Lions fans in MI hate the Packers much more than the Bears. Lots of Bears fans in northern Indiana who hate the packers. Jacksonville fans probably hate the Colts, not the Pats. Likewise, Tampa fans probably hate the Falcons or maybe the Saints, not the Pats. Steeler fans hate the Ravens, not the Cowboys.
@DJP519 If you Google, “most hated NFL team” you’ll come up with all kinds of maps. This one was the most reoccurring so that’s why I posted it. A couple had the Cowboys as the most hated team in Texas. Go figure....
@DJP519 You're not wrong, but we Steelers fans also really hate the Cowboys (perhaps equally to Ravens, as hard as that may be to believe). On a related note, I think anyone not a Cowboys fan by default hates the Cowboys.
@dis_member It's true. I hate the Cowboys, but not because of the Cowboys per se. I don't feel like they're a viable threat or anything -- I just hate Jerry Jones. He's such a d-bag.
@Teripie up here in NW Buckeyeland, there are TONS of steelers fans. many of whom were already steelers fans BEFORE they Hired Roethesberger.(he's from about 45 min north of me, I went to school with some of his cousins), and while in general, my brother is like me in not giving a shit about football, after living in DFW for the last 20 years, he hates the cowboys.(literally HALF of the Local news boradcast EVERY NIGHT is somehow cowby related- am i right dallas people?)
@unkabob It's football. It's the Patriots. (or Cowboys, or Steelers, or Your-Team-Here.) When you are a fan and your team sucks, say like the Jaguars, you stay intrested by hating some other team. Or so my friends and reletives think.
Broncos are my team but I was relieved they didn't make it to the SB. I think it would have been another slaughter. I am interested to see how the new head coach does next season, and to see if Manning stays or retires.
I haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaate the Patriots though, so I say, "Go Hawks!!"
If the Hawks play like they did in the last 4 minutes of yesterday's game, they should crush New England. But if Wilson plays like he did the first 3 quarters, might as well crown the Pats now.
While I wholehearted agree with @lisaviolet -- who cares about football? I need to ask this -- who is playing?? I am in a pool and have no idea which teams are involved.
@MEHcus while completely condescending -- that is COOOLLL... :) I guess I should be happy the Pats are in it!! Since I am from New England -- one of those whiny East Coasters..
@Teripie ... That's what I was wondering but then again conservatives salivate in crashing liberal forums just to let them know how much they hate Obama.. EVERYONE knows the GOP hates anyone beyond their club. (didn't mean to bring up politics but it seems the two interlock as far as wigging out over something).
@Teripie@unkabob If you post a thread like this in a general forum as opposed to say, a sports forum, then it's all fair game. And specifically, I've seen progressives crash conservative forums as much as I've seen the inverse. You only tend to notice it when someone crashes "your" forum. Note that as in sports, I'm not on a political team. I would also point out that not caring, or not getting sports is not the same as hating sports. tl;dr; Meh is probably not the best place for a private party.
@Headly.. That's the problem with having fun in funtime forums, seems someone always takes it too seriously. Forget it, I was just jawing (guess that'll get me in hot water too)... MEH!!
My favorite part of the Super Bowl (besides the aforementioned commercials and the parties) was when MTV still aired Celebrity Deathmatch, and ran episodes of that during halftime. Such a great show.
I'm not looking forward to it. Either way people will be in the streets outside my apartment yelling until 4 am. Should be fun. Here is a potato video of what it was like last year.
I went to Home Depot in my Prius on Super Bowl Sunday last year. I looked around and saw that Priuses outnumbered pickups in the parking lot. I'd wager $1000 it's the only day of the year when that happens.
I'm bumping this up because I need help. On Sunday, the opera, La Boheme will have one performance here in this redneck town. It's from 4 to 7. Hubby hates opera. I adore La Boheme. The only person who will go with me is daughter's boyfriend, who hubby hates. But Hubby reluctantly said I could go with him. So, opera or Super Bowl? Hate the idea of leaving hubby home for such a big event.
@Teripie If he'll have good snacks and maybe a few pizzas, I'm willing to come over and watch the game with him while you have a good time at the opera, if such can indeed be had. (My dad loved opera and my reaction is still why are all these people screaming like Tarzan?)
@Saffer49 That's cute. Seahawks really dominated that game against the Pack, huh?
@Mac454 Winning's winning, by 1 point or 50.
@Saffer49 The only time I hear that saying is when a team barely scrapes by. You don't hear that after a 38 point drudging.
But hey, good luck. May the best team win.
@Mac454 my ducks beat FSU by 39 then lost to a real defense. Running up the score doesn't necessarily mean it's the better team
@Mehntok Your ducks! You mean my ducks!
@Mac454 It looked like they got dominated until the last half of the 4th quarter. Really pulled it out at the last minute, exciting game. Wonder how many people left the stadium early?
Puppy Bowl will be on that day. So much better than pro sports.
@duodec If only for Kitty Halftime!
@gertiestn the Kitten Bowl has its own show now I think! Not just squeezed in between the puppies like second rate pets anymore.
@duodec 2+ if they have my S-I-L's fostered Pitty-Love Rescue Puppies on again- I haven't checked the line-ups yet tho...
I say Bring back the broncs.. They should have one more chance at the chrome Bootfall.. footnote: when are the browns gonna win for cryin' out loud!!?
I like purple.
@unkabob the Browns will never win :(
@Kevin ... Damn! And I had a buck on 'em.. Well, maybe next millennia..
Best day to go to Disneyland.

@Mac454 I don't think Wilson was ever OUT of the pocket during the last couple of games
Yay sports
@MEHcus Meh...
Sports!
Gronk cheat? Maybe.
@Thumperchick "Cheating" and "Patriots" just seem to go together.
I'll be skiing, couldn't care less about these teams. Probably DVR the game just for the commercials.
@Cinoclav You can save the DVR space- Hulu should have the commercials available the next day to watch I believe.
@dashcloud The official website will have them too. I just prefer to have easy access while I'm laying in bed watching the big plasma! :)
Half of the people in this thread:

@Thumperchick I don't watch television.
This thread could become as volatile as a political thread. Boooooo Patriots!
Will this become another East Coast/West Coast civil war?
@Teripie Three way conflagration. Those who give a shit make up two camps. Those who realize how pointless pro sports are make up the third and get to look down on the first two!

@Teripie something wrong with that map the redskins should be taking up more than half
@Foxborn @Teripie Can't zoom to county to see the Ravens (&Browns if they were better) hate in my Steelers Country.
@Teripie Lots of problems with this. Lions fans in MI hate the Packers much more than the Bears. Lots of Bears fans in northern Indiana who hate the packers. @dis_member Good point.
@Teripie ... No one should 'hate' anyone.. That's how wars start.
@unkabob It's football. It's the Patriots. (or Cowboys, or Steelers, or Your-Team-Here.) When you are a fan and your team sucks, say like the Jaguars, you stay intrested by hating some other team. Or so my friends and reletives think.

@mikibell If you and @lisaviolet care so little about football why not ignore this thread?
@Teripie I did bet money on it... There is always hope I might win :)
@Teripie Why single us out?
@mikibell You will probably win. In fact, I'd bet on it.
Seems odd for a lot of sports haters to bother to log into this thread just so they can brag about hating sports. I mean, really guys????
@Teripie ... That's what I was wondering but then again conservatives salivate in crashing liberal forums just to let them know how much they hate Obama.. F the Pats
@JonT Love it! Go to The Onion and do a search on "Patriots." Appears to be one of their favorite butts.
@JonT The things you're dishing out sure taste bitter.
It's alright though, in order for their to be a great team, there has to be bad teams (that apparently you root for) that cry about it.
Stay salty, my friend. ;)
@JonT
@JonT <3!!
@dashcloud That doesn't even make sense.
@Mac454 Balls are deflated, and Viagra helps stiffen them up. (Don't think too hard on it).
@dashcloud ...That's not how viagra works. I think you're doing it wrong.
But I see what you did with the "hard" there.
My favorite part of the Super Bowl (besides the aforementioned commercials and the parties) was when MTV still aired Celebrity Deathmatch, and ran episodes of that during halftime.

When I was a kid growing up in San Francisco my favorite team was the Vikings because their color was purple.
@Barney loves purple, or so I am told.
@Saffer49 I love purple!
Go Pats!
Right now the odds are Seattle by 3.
Meh.......
@Teripie should be Seattle by 10.
@JonT If they field the juggernaut that they fielded last Super Bowl, it’s be a total rout.
@JonT No, you mean it should be Packers by 3.
@JonT Want to make a small wager? If Pats win, I get a Fuku #5, if they lose, I'll buy VMP for the next 2 months.

@Teripie Opera. Do it while you can.
So, pool numbers are in -- I have Pats 0, Seahawks 4 -- I am told these are good numbers. We shall see.
