Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope In ASCII On One Web Page
6So with @curtise posting the pretty cool single panel illustration of Star Wars, it reminded me of this site from a while ago where a guy went through and rendered the movie in ASCII art. It’s pretty damn impressive and I’m not even much of a Star Wars guy.

Hmmm…
It’s cool, although I wonder if it’s more of an issue with copyright than what @curtise shared.
Heheh, yep, this one! You can also telnet to towel.blinkenlights.nl to watch the same animation streaming to your terminal.
As a little easter egg, if you connect through an IPv4 connection you get the message: "The IPv6 version has extra scenes and extra color support. So if you want to experience ascii starwars to it’s fullest you really should get IPv6."
But if you connect through IPv6, you are told the following: “Well, the IPv6 version is exactly the same as the IPv4 one.
The difference is in the visitors…
Je bent een Stoere Bikkel, aka You Rock.”
Or, you know, just visit the asciimation site

Totally spaced out when read that. Clicked the first link, then wondered why my SSH client app opened up on my phone.
It isn’t finished. He started almost 20 years ago. Hasn’t touched it in almost 1.5 years. And all that information is right on the page itself.
It was a big hit when it was first “noticed”. Here’s a slashdot story from 2003 referring to the original story where slashdot picked it up in 99
Remeber when slashdot was important? Oh my, i’m old.
I remember first discovering this as an easter egg in one of the computing mods for Minecraft.
Yes, I play(ed) Minecraft, judge all you want, I’m not ashamed one bit.
