Really- locking out my awesome idea for a profanity ridden politically incorrect no holes barred topic. Why? The warning is there for people who won’t consider it appropriate. Afraid the topic will become too popular?
@hollboll Wait. What thread was locked? I missed that somehow (something about work and apparently we are inadvertently beta testing a disaster of a class shell which I have spent the better part of the last 15 hours trying to fix)…
lol your topic idea was dumb. you want to be a troll, but then you also want a safe space for your trolling to go without consequences. talk about irony.
@narfcake Haha, no one listens to me because I took this thread to mean it was going to be another political thread. That’s what I get for skimming. Fuck me.
Actually, the locking of that other thread concerns me a little bit. I’ve seen it’s like before. Hell, I probably started it.
@someRiverNoise Just physical. The emotional and mental parts I downloaded into my chromebook. Fucking thing has never worked right since. It just keeps showing me lame gifs.
@KittySprinkles Hey wait - didn’t that one get used on some previous candy thread? I vaguely remember it - thus you should have been warned never to take up @mfladd on any offers of candy. LOL
Threads where the point of the thread is to open it to any offensiveness or to any extreme quality of the “commentary”, no matter how vile, tend to lack actual content; and to be destructive to a true community of people who share long-term bonds, unless the entire community prefers that model.
To a person who doesn’t prefer threads of the “freedom to offer extreme offense” model, such threads are at best a waste of time (as they almost always lack value in content); and at worst quite destructive.
And those threads tend not to have great results for most businesses who might be able to host them. This is a forum on a business site.
What you want would prob fit in at Reddit or 4chan or another site that’s enormous, wide-open-to-anyone, including trolls, and wide-open-to-any-topic and to any line of attack or any nastiness without limit. Such sites do not follow Mediocre’s business model.
@f00l How do you know this “To a person who doesn’t prefer threads of the “freedom to offer extreme offense” model, such threads are at best a waste of time (as they almost always lack value in content); and at worst quite destructive.”? Because perfect etiquette does not guarantee rational opinion, in fact it’s usually the contrary. People need to stop being wound so tight that they can’t take a fucking joke. Words are harmless bitches.
We as a community have no need of being gratuitous mean. Yes an occasional fuck is entertainment. But let’s be good to one another. Instead of mean threads go for silly or absurdity in our threads. Many of us come here at least somewhat for the smiles.
@CaptAmehrican I agree, but admittedly, I’ve gotten a lot of smiles from well known members bantering and even occasionally being gratuitously mean. However, I feel it is that there is a pre-existing relationship between those posters being a bit mean-spirited from time to time that makes it okay, as it is occasionally well deserved in the form of calling someone out deservedly without the other feeling that they need to go nuclear. It is more of a family feel, even if you are new to the forum reading it you can sense it.
Something like this though is something completely different.
I guess what I am saying is that we can be good to each other even when we’re occasionally dickish, and that’s okay too. But I don’t say this to detract from your statement.
@MrMark I can’t speak for anyone else, but my laptop keeps trying to auto-correct the backlighting when dark mode is on. There is not a fix, even though it is a common complaint about my model.
@gak0090 If you want no rules, build your own deal of the day site, attract a sizable audience and then somehow get them to post in your own forum where your only rule is that there are no rules.
Why do people have such a hard time understanding that there is no such thing as freedom of speech on the internet? There just isn’t. Unless you own your own ISP and Server and can self-host and serve your own site saying whatever you want you are subject to the rules of whoever’s service you are using. SMH
Actually, I was the first one to lock you out of it. If you’re going to call someone a wimp, you should probably get your facts straight.
@hollboll Somebody’s looking for a timeout, aren’t they? …
(ETA: Offensive post has since been redacted. Yay!)
@hollboll Wait. What thread was locked? I missed that somehow (something about work and apparently we are inadvertently beta testing a disaster of a class shell which I have spent the better part of the last 15 hours trying to fix)…

@f00l Thank you. Worth missing.
There’s politics … and then there’s political incorrectness.
One can be managed; the other is unnecessary.
@narfcake Did you google that? Wait- let me write that shit down.
lol your topic idea was dumb. you want to be a troll, but then you also want a safe space for your trolling to go without consequences. talk about irony.
@meh I don’t get the irony because your argument lacks logic
I really wanted this headline instead
@snapster
/giphy headline instead
@snapster @hollboll
How many letters can you check off from the rules?
@someRiverNoise Check them all off- why have rules? Have one forum free of rules- what the fuck, who is that bothering?
@gak0090
No rules inevitably leads to self destruction.
Yup, another polarizing political thread - that’s just what we need. That other one won’t just go away.
@mfladd I haven’t read that one in days – and I’d prefer to keep it that way.
@narfcake I’ve tried twice to throw a clue in there, but people won’t let it go. No one listens to me anyway

@mfladd
Maybe if you spoke up in/on the forums I’d listen to you.
Speaking of which, what did you do to @KittySprinkles ?
@someRiverNoise I have been speaking up lately. Shhhh…she is in trunk in my closet. At least some of her is.
@mfladd
Are we talking only physical parts, or physical/
emotional/mentalparts?By rethinking my question, I pretty much answered it. Oh well.
@mfladd
You keep Clues locked up in a trunk in your closet?
In one piece or have you cut them up?
Do you feed and water them, and take them out for walks, or do you just let them rot?
@someRiverNoise Just physical. The emotional and mental parts I downloaded into my chromebook. Fucking thing has never worked right since. It just keeps showing me lame gifs.
@mfladd
The Chromebook or the physical parts of @KittySprinkles ?
@f00l
@mfladd Well at least I’ll be fresh!
@KittySprinkles Get back in the trunk!!!
@mfladd
@mfladd
/giphy "elephant trunk"
@mfladd
I do understand your feelings, however, looking at things in the context of the forum as a whole, I truly believe they made the right decision.
@KittySprinkles Hey wait - didn’t that one get used on some previous candy thread? I vaguely remember it - thus you should have been warned never to take up @mfladd on any offers of candy. LOL
Make it stop!!! It’s replaying over and over in my head…
@lisaviolet you missed me didn’t you

@snapster is a businessman.
or
are both contradicted by the available empirical evidence.

Your opinion as stated is contradicted both by your own argument, and by other available evidence.

@CaptAmehrican
i giggled.
Hey, at least they left your slam on the Patriots up for posterity when they locked down the thread. They can’t be all bad.
And the best part of this thread is…
@brhfl wait, you dont use dark mode?
@MrMark I can’t speak for anyone else, but my laptop keeps trying to auto-correct the backlighting when dark mode is on. There is not a fix, even though it is a common complaint about my model.
@MrMark Isn’t dark mode the best??
@gak0090 If you want no rules, build your own deal of the day site, attract a sizable audience and then somehow get them to post in your own forum where your only rule is that there are no rules.
@MrsPavlov
Exactly.
Esp if @gak0900 posts frequently and sets the tone of the forum conversations.
