Bandit says hello…
He was perched on the loveseat watching the shark vacuum the kitchen. Obviously I was standing up taking the picture otherwise he would have been in my lap which he promptly did when I sat down to post this.
@Kyeh To be honest, I’m not much of a cat person… but Poppy is a cutie The only cat I’ve ever ‘had’ was in Tampa. It was a feral cat in the neighborhood that we named Seventies because she was brindle and looked like a 70’s shag rug. We set out water and gave her scraps from time to time. She was not very trusting, but when a storm would roll in she would wait by our front door. We’d let her in and she would hide under our couch and stay there until the storm passed. Seventies was one of a kind, and the best (and only) cat I’ve ever ‘had’. She did let me pet her one time. And then she bit me
@capnjb Yeah, ferals are unpredictable for sure. I hope you got that wound sanitized right away - cat bites can be dangerous. I’d rather be bitten by a cat than a dog, though.
Poppy is sweet - bossy but not mean at all.
@Kyeh In my teenage years, I worked in a pet store, and we didn’t sell dogs or cats as the owner hated all the breeding mills. We would occasionally have people drop off cats that they had found abandoned and we would feed them and vaccinate them and keep them healthy until the right person walked in the door. And this was like 35 years ago but I still remember my two favorites. One was maybe a three week old kitten that someone had found in a dumpster so we got him back to a healthy state and named him Trashcan. He was a character. And then someone brought in a kitten about the same age that was missing a front leg. We named her three-wheeler I’m happy to say that both cats found happy homes.
@Kyeh And holy cow I went WAY back through my images (this is probably from 2001) and found a picture of 70’s. Not quite as adorable as Poppy… heh. This cat had resting bitch face LOL. But she became part of our story
@capnjb@Kyeh
Likewise, I’ve never been much of a cat person. Over the years my wife brought several into our lives --some of them were more appreciated by me than others.
I must say though Bandit has definitely carved a niche in my psyche. He is the most affectionate cat I’ve ever known (currently cuddled up in my lap and purring to beat the band). He is also very verbal and constantly ‘talking’ at me about something.
I’m totally happy that he found his way into our lives.
@capnjb@chienfou I thought it was your wife who couldn’t have cats because of allergies, initially? I know that people can get desensitized to their own cat’s allergens, because my brother has gotten over them with his cat.
@capnjb@Kyeh
She IS the one with the cat sensitivities. We kept outdoor cats for a long time especially when the kids were little. And yes she does seem to have gotten acclimated to the cats that we have now. She also seems less sensitive when we travel to other “cat-infested” locations.
I grew up with dogs as pets as a kid. I guess that’s why my proclivities lie on the canine side. Though I must admit I have gotten much more cat appreciative over the last few years. Oue current fur babies have definitely filled a spot in our hearts. I think (as research seems to bear out) just having a pet around is good for your mental health.
@capnjb@chienfou@Kyeh I was allergic to cats during my teen years. I remember once bundling up in a blanket while camping that (it turned out) a cat had slept on. I spent the next several hours sneezing, coughing and blowing my nose.
Once I made it to adulthood, the allergy had gone away - I don’t have any cat issues now. (But I still prefer dogs.)
I grabbed photos from the past to post of my little group ranging in age from 8-16. All of them started their lives as strays I took in. The 16 year old at about 6 weeks from the center strip on the highway, found on my way to work, the 10 year old dumped on campus, the yellow 8 year old from a friend who rescued him, and the gray and other colors 8 year old was feral for the first 5 months of her life. Tamed down in 4 days which was pretty amazing.
This one is 8 and was feral for the first 5 months of her life.
This is not my laundry basket obviously
At a friend’s house who was taking care of them for me when I was out of town me, she is 16 (not my reptile)
This one was abandoned on campus and is 10.5, she loves sleeping by the window, not just looking out of it
And of course Mr. Road Kill (8 this month) who sprawls everywhere belly up except when trying to claim my bed and pillow at night.
Ginger
Luna Boona from Altoona.
NoodleCat.
KitsuneCat
Moi.
Ash (banana for scale)
@macromeh Beautiful pup.
The banana for scale is very important. I once bought those baby bananas… ruined all my pictures… heh.
@macromeh Your pet is a banana?!?!?
@cfg83 My pet is a dog; my dog’s s̶n̶a̶c̶k̶ pet is a banana.
Charlie and his new Uncle Jake!
@tinamarie1974 Jake is adorable! How funny for Charlie to have an uncle so much younger than him.
@Kyeh thank you
He is so small and super cute, but quite the diva. So much attitude and the side eye. Omg, always w the side eye.
We are getting his dna done but I think he is Jack Russel and Chihuahua. I see serious Chihuahua energy
Bodhi, Juniper and Willow are “helping” me in the garden today.
@sillyheathen Gotta love those monochrome mutts!
@sillyheathen Looks like Bhodi is fully recovered from his health scare!
Smokey is chillin’ in her favorite spot.

See what I
mean…?
@chienfou I love this. Going from no pets to “outside cats” to cuddling on your lap.
@tinamarie1974
I know… I guess both the cats must be hypoallergenic !!
Meet Poppy! She moved here from the Humane Society in early June.
Cats always like Meh bags.
She also took possession of this pillow I got in an Irk a while back.

And I just happened to notice that this shirt I’ve had looks so much like her!
@Kyeh It was in the stars then to get this kitty.
@Kidsandliz Apparently so!

@Kyeh
I’ve had half my colon removed… I can work through a cat bite
@capnjb @Kyeh cat scratch fever is no joke!

LOL. But she became part of our story
@capnjb She does look kind of grumpy!
@Kyeh Grumpy would be a good day. Heh. But we love animals, so we do what we do
