@tat76attila i have a regular pebble (which i got as a gift) and it's great. i use it for controlling my music, fielding notifications, quickly responding to texts, etc. i love it!
I bought this the last time it came around. Im originally owned an Apple Watch, which I really did not like. This is the perfect alternative for someone who doesn't want a distraction on their wrist, but something with true utility at an affordable price with exceptional battey life and not too many frills to become distracting.
Politics, sports, technology, deals ... everyone notice how strongly we advocate for positions when obviously there is no singular right answer?
I think it's the internet's fault.
Interesting that you tried the Apple Watch, hated it, but love the Pebble. Cuz in my mind, I compared the $400 Watch to my $600+ Garmins and Suuntos, and found the Watch to be a steal.
(Not exactly apples to apples, but I think I paid $700 for my Garmin Edge bike computer, which does 2% of what the Watch can do.)
Also, wrt charging and battery life. I got to demo the Nike Fuel Band, all of the FitBits, and the thing from Polar when they first came out. Claimed battery lives of 7 days, 4-5 more typical. On paper, that's way longer than the Apple Watch. But I found it it's 1000 times easier to just plug it in every night into constantly monitor the battery status at the three or four day mark. Slapping the watch on the nightstand doesn't take any cognitive processing, it's all muscle memory now.
Not saying either of us is right. Only that 99% of life is subjective.
About the only thing we can all agree on is that Maroon 5 sucks.
@f00l We still have quite a few of them around where I live (and it goes beyond banks). I like them, because the temperature is always so hilariously inaccurate.
As far as inconvenient time is concerned, I'll generally skip looking at my watch if I know I'm within earshot of a clock tower. I also tend to glance at sundials when I walk past them.
@RedOak Per the WHO, "At typical cruising altitudes in the range 11 000–12 200 m (36 000–40 000 feet), air pressure in the cabin is equivalent to the outside air pressure at 1800–2400 m (6000–8000 feet) above sea level."
Is anyone else having trouble completing their order? I want this badly but I keep getting 'Intern Al Server Error". I say we fire Al and fix his errors so I can order this thing and go to bed already.
@Superjimtendo Meh won't load today on my iphone on Safari. Opera Mini works and my pc works. Confused as to why Safari is giving error. Well shoot, it just loaded correctly! Was getting error up until now, 8:50 AM eastern.
@SuperjimtendoMeh.com was crapping out for me last night. Acted like the site was crashing repeatedly. Other sites worked fine. I blamed it on the crash-prone Edge browser I was using and went to bed.
Perhaps there was a change in the environment that is not playing well.
@Superjimtendo Meh and the other Mediocre sites were all returning plain ol' Internal Server Error instead of their regular mediocre content last night. This went on for brief periods starting shortly after midnight.
Sometimes it worked if I accessed it from one computer and not another. Bad server in the rotation, I guess.
I picked this up last go around and love it. The one recommendation I have is that anyone that buys this get a stand for it ( Like the one I ordered http://www.amazon.com/Nogis-Nightstand-Vertical-Charger-Charging/dp/B015ZBY9YG?ie=UTF8&psc=1 ) Otherwise charging can be rather . . . Meh. It tends to slip off the included cable that, though magnetic, only covers about 1/3 of the backplate. Could just be me but the stand is awesome anyway.
Got mine last time around and love it! It's a nice upgrade from the original Pebble. Now to try to get my partner to jump on this before it sells out again.
Got mine last time around. It was a PITA to get to sync and work properly. But now I have it nicely configured and working. I use the Yweather watch face, Pandora app, and the Get Up, Stand Up app to remind me to stand up once in a while.
I have a pack of screen protectors arriving today. My original Pebble somehow got a big scratch on it. It eventually got retired because the e-ink display started failing -- random pixels stopped responding.
I rolled with an OG Pebble for a while. If I wasn't an iPhone user, I'd have kept it. It's a really neat gizmo, and having notifications on my wrist was really useful. Problem is that iOS limitations keep you from doing anything with those notifications on a Pebble. So, I hocked it, and blew too much money on an Apple Watch (which I also love.)
So, if you're an Android guy, and want a good smartwatch for cheap, pull the trigger. It's a good deal.
Well, I'm sure apple will release its new watch in the fall, and it'll be 3x as expensive as this. I'm hoping that buying this I'll be able to resist the siren song of metal and glass that I so enjoy from my apple products.
In the meantime, hopefully I'll stop missing calls and other notifications because the phone case dampens the vibration too much, and I don't like audio notifications.
Also you can get two of these for the cost of the apple, so making a flip phone is much more affordable:
@Kevin thx - other than his irritating delivery, an excellent real world review.
My conclusion: @ $49, perhaps, otherwise that viewing angle issue would really grate on me. (One of the reasons my even worse Metawatch sits in the drawer.)
@RedOak I haven't had problems with the viewing angle. I think it depends on use case though. I work in an office most of the time so this isn't a problem.. The only time I have a problem is when I am driving home with sun hitting it perfectly. I will take battery life over fixing that though.
Bought a refurb that started screen tearing after the first firmware update. (I bought the watch 5 months ago) Pebble says it is a bad component and out of warranty so sorry, out of luck. They did offer a 25% discount from the Pebble store but why would I buy a product that has a history of bad components? (Google Screen tearing). No way am I going to touch a pebble again. Too many people have the same issue (And there are just as many theories and suggestions, none of which work.)
@zachdecker Exactly. Now the watch just makes me want Mexican Food. Seriously, I know a lot of people who love pebble but in researching this issue, there is a lot of unhappy pebble users. I don't know if this watch will do the same, but I have no faith in the product, especially when the vendor wont support what seems to be a known defect in earlier watches.
@mdrcoast I had the same issue in the original Pebble. Replaced it under warranty, just over a year later the same issue. Glad they addressed the "bad component" issue in the Time! I loved the Pebble when it worked.
I have the Martian Notifier and the Pebble Time, both purchased from Meh. I like them both, but definitely prefer the Pebble, which has much more functionality. The Notifier price point was spot on for me. To me, $90 is a little more than the Pebble is worth. That being said, I wear it daily and am pretty happy with it.
I don't think my life/social life is interesting enough for a smart watch. Am I the only one who doesn't really care if I know the instant someone calls or messages me? I'm not even that old. People can wait.
@Tom You know what this means? Mediocre is sourcing products from Woot!
Woot sells what they can, then mark up the left overs to 20% and sells it to someone like Meh. Then Meh adds on an additional 2%. I doubt it really costs $5 to ship, so they may make an extra buck or two from that.
Then after the deal is over. Someone at Woot HQ loads up the watches in a truck and drives them down the street to Meh HQ. They greet each other friendly, drop off the merch, and go have a nice lunch together.
I've been using the Martian Notifier for long enough that I'm open to the idea of getting a watch that does a little bit more - the thing I'm really into is the step counter, if I'm being honest. Using my phone to count steps only works if I don't constantly leave my phone at my desk when I wander around the office pretending to have things to do.
Just got one. At least this time I signed up for VMP. Was too worried to make the extra click when ordering the Fuko! This will replace my Meta Strata which, contrary to a lot of people's experience, I have been very happy with. The problem if there are some issues with the widgets (Baseball does not work), and since they seem to be defunct, there is basically no chance there will be any more updates. Hopefully I will get a few years of use from the Pebble before they do the same!
I have the Time Steel. Still considering ordering one of these as a "casual" fallback. It's not an Apple Watch, but I never worry about forgetting to charge it, and it keeps getting better with every new firmware release.
Also bought this the last time around as an upgrade to the original Pebble. It looks much less toy-like so I found no need for a bezel cover. Also love the always-on color screen and still only need to charge it once a week. If you work in a place the prohibits cell phone use, a smart watch allows you to be more discreet with checking texts/who's calling etc.
btw, if you have OG BW Pebble, you can also put new Time OS/Firmware on it. I somehow missed the news, but saw it pop up when installed new Pebble app.
based on others recommendation i also got the dbrand skin for bezel protection. recommend it as well.
had the original pebble, upgraded to this one on release. nothing bad to say about it other than my original (after two years) doesn't have a single scratch. the Time shows every little ding and nudge. I ended up ordering a cover (which still hasn't arrived yet actually..)
Its just a bit weird when it comes to sales tax. The price is $90. CA state tax is 7.5% and county tax is 1.25%. In which school did they teach 8.75% of $90 = $9.03?
@abhii1001 If you want to buy it from here, sign up for VMP membership quick like a bunny and you'll see it available as leftovers until 6am ET the next day. Good luck! May God have mercy on your decidedly meh soul.
hey @therealjrn can you tell me if its avaliable ..will signup then..no point signing up for 5 bucks if its not avaliable ..thanks much for your help..cheers, Abhi australia
@abhii1001 Yeh, if you can't afford 5 bucks--dude. Stay on the porch. But surely you knew that already? Have you explored the meh international shipping options? oh yeah--cheers mate.
@therealjrn if you live in East Turkistan, how are you on the Internet? And if you are somehow on the Internet, how are you getting to Western sites? The Party frowns upon your extra-legal behavior.
Bought the watch off here last time it was up. I am really loving it. Always on screen and battery life are a huge plus. The only thing I didn't like was the "rubber" strap that came with it. I ended up buying a NATO $11 strap off Amazon and the watch is great. Looks less like a kids toy now also..
The d-brand skin is a nice touch also (although I didn't put in the inner screen skin because I would rather have a screen protector).
This showed up last Friday and I'm already kind of in love with it. I grabbed the Music Boss app and I've been using the hell out of it because who doesn't love a wrist-mounted remote?

@jayplus707 damn it
@jayplus707 how is this a Deal?
"Watch" it --again "time" will tell
Going to wait for the Bam-Bam.
Need to replace my old Pebble. Tried slipping it across the pond, didn't go so well.
Why would they lower such a quality price?
who
Dude it hasn't even been a month since this was last posted.
Bought one last time. Garbage. It's on ebay now.
@tat76attila huh? you got the pebble and it was garbage? are you sure your not confusing it with the meta?
@thismyusername nope. It's Peeble and it's a useless POS.
@tat76attila i have a regular pebble (which i got as a gift) and it's great. i use it for controlling my music, fielding notifications, quickly responding to texts, etc. i love it!
@tat76attila yea that is really weird... I have a kickstarter one (black and white screen) and it really rocks. Very odd... oh well to each his own.
@tat76attila "Bought one last time. Garbage. It's on ebay now."
Said no one.... EVER!
@tat76attila I thought that's what was expected when you purchase from meh?
Just slap this display on that wrist-speaker from the other day and now you've got something.
Or not.....
@UncleEdZed
Or link them both on the same Velcro strap, Pebble on one side, speaker on the other.
@MehnofLaMehncha Untz Untz Untz
Got this last go round. LOVE it.
Meh, you used to be rock solid... And now, Pebble
Dang. I'm broke cause of taxes. Or I'd bite.
and now we know why Terri is ranked #38,839,881 #38,839,881 amazon reviewers.
correction I tried to make when the servers took a dirt nap:

That's my two cents. I freaking love this watch.
@completewally $12 Armitron/Timex at Walmart. True utility at an affordable price. Tells time? Check. $12? Check.
Whay am I missing?
@mike808
My timex refuses to tell me who's calling.
Politics, sports, technology, deals ... everyone notice how strongly we advocate for positions when obviously there is no singular right answer?
I think it's the internet's fault.

About the only thing we can all agree on is that Maroon 5 sucks.
@f00l
Did you try asking nicely?
@mike808
Zero dollars to stick your head out the window and look at the sign outside the bank.
( do they still do that? )
@MehnofLaMehncha
@mike808
Now when am I not nice?
My Timex is very sweet-tempered, but not very social. Kinda a wallflower.
PS Do love my Garmin. Also my solar G-Shock. Am a nut for cheap watches.
@MehnofLaMehncha
Re bank time/temp signs. Most hereabouts are gone. Still some in small towns tho, community tradition.
Besides, when it's 106°F you wanna see public confirmation of your suffering.
@mike808
The ability to check your text message and skip to the next song while looking like you are involved in the boring meeting.
@MehnofLaMehncha It's not the internet's fault - it's the goat's fault!
So you're telling me I won't be able to use it whilst completing my 14K'r list.
@RedOak
Are we spozed to turn it off when flying then?
@f00l
Anyone know effective cabin pressure?
@RedOak Per the WHO, "At typical cruising altitudes in the range 11 000–12 200 m (36 000–40 000 feet), air pressure in the cabin is equivalent to the outside air pressure at 1800–2400 m (6000–8000 feet) above sea level."
@OOB wasn't referring to high altitude flying where of course the cabins are pressurized. Was referring to climbing mountains.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Colorado_fourteeners
@f00l Airplanes are usually pressurized.
I'm still not convinced I need a smartwatch. But if I had the money to spend I'd probably get this. So my poverty is kinda savkg me money in a way.

@Superjimtendo Fucking interns.
@Superjimtendo the whole site has done it a couple times this morning, not just you.
@thismyusername I saw it too--Intern AL.
@Superjimtendo Meh won't load today on my iphone on Safari. Opera Mini works and my pc works. Confused as to why Safari is giving error. Well shoot, it just loaded correctly! Was getting error up until now, 8:50 AM eastern.

To help pay for this deal, Meh took the website down for a few hours to save wages and electricity.

The writeup said there were three possible scenarios! What's the third??
Here is a real good review from Linus Tech Tips...

They did offer a 25% discount from the Pebble store but why would I buy a product that has a history of bad components? (Google Screen tearing). No way am I going to touch a pebble again. Too many people have the same issue (And there are just as many theories and suggestions, none of which work.)
@mdrcoast fresh manicure?
@RedOak I wish, it is a google image that is identical to my watch, just not the hand model.
Watch tacos?
@zachdecker Exactly. Now the watch just makes me want Mexican Food. Seriously, I know a lot of people who love pebble but in researching this issue, there is a lot of unhappy pebble users. I don't know if this watch will do the same, but I have no faith in the product, especially when the vendor wont support what seems to be a known defect in earlier watches.
@mdrcoast I had the same issue in the original Pebble. Replaced it under warranty, just over a year later the same issue. Glad they addressed the "bad component" issue in the Time! I loved the Pebble when it worked.
@Burns72 I loved mine as well. Worked perfectly until the watch did a firmware update. How and why an update would cause a "Bad Component" ????
I have the Martian Notifier and the Pebble Time, both purchased from Meh. I like them both, but definitely prefer the Pebble, which has much more functionality. The Notifier price point was spot on for me. To me, $90 is a little more than the Pebble is worth. That being said, I wear it daily and am pretty happy with it.

@arysta It's not about whether it makes sense. It's a cool geek gadget.
Wasn't this on Woot like, yesterday?
http://electronics.woot.com/forums/viewpost.aspx?postid=6777897&pageindex=1&replycount=2
Ok, two days ago. BUT STILL. And it was $20 less.
The whole system is rigged!
@Tom looks like there were several models, price range $79 - $129.
@Tom Looks like $10 difference, and refurbished.
@Thumperchick Yes, the round ones were $129, the square were $79.
@ahqaz You are right, I saw $7* and $9* and primate brain said $2* difference. It is $11 not $20. Whoops.
@Tom Those were refurbished watches with a 90 day warranty. These are new with a 1-year warranty.
@Tom That refurb price is much nicer, but no way discounted enough from this Meh price for a new one.
@Tom Good to see the comment traffic has really picked up over there at Woot.
Hmm. Couldn't resist! Heard you can control Spotify from your wrist.
If you're bummed you missed this, looks like SAMs is selling it for $129. And the entry pebble for $69.
Advantage of SAMs - if the display craps out a day after warranty (or any time) - take it back no questions asked.

I recommend both of these:

All in all, great buy. I wasn't going to spend over $100 on my first smartwatch and this fit the bill perfectly.
EDIT: Even with the accessories I am still under the $130 usual price.
This showed up last Friday and I'm already kind of in love with it. I grabbed the Music Boss app and I've been using the hell out of it because who doesn't love a wrist-mounted remote?
