I want another Winix with all the extra filters. That thing works great, and always kicks into high gear when I fart, so I know it’s not lying about air quality!
There once was a time when people went outside, opened their windows, and actually breathed natural air. Now machines recycle our air. How long until they start recycling our food?
@hchavers I get the sentiment but humanity does a pretty good job messing up the air with auto exhaust, brake dust, smoke, etc. etc. At least we mostly got the lead out.
@hchavers I have an air purifier specifically because I open my windows, and I don’t want to breathe more exhaust, brake dust, and tire dust than I have to.
@hchavers We need machines to recycle our air because of all the pollutants we put into it. I think we need to solve that one first. (When the kids go outside to play and return inside, my wife says they “smell like sun”. Actually, it’s the high concentration of ozone outside that makes them smell that way. Ewww.)
@hchavers@TmanSim If this would allow me to open the window during fire season (fine…year-round, fire season is no longer a single season anymore), I will buy this in an instant! (I think it was 2 summers ago that I could barely go outside at all due to fires…Colorado, it was bad.)
First I saw filter life and thought it was like hash tag filter life!!!
And then I realized it is counting down to it’s own death because where will I get filters for this thing? I wish filters were something I could like hose down in the backyard.
@kus@troy@werehatrack I haven’t seen the manual, i was just going by the “About This Item” section of the Amazon listing:
PROLONG FILTER LIFE : To prolong the filter life, you can clean your filter using a damp cloth or the hose or a vacuum. After cleaning, re-insert the your filter and you’re good to go!
From Amazon reviews, it’s nigh impossible to find replacement filters. They don’t even have them in stock on their website. I guess that’s fine if you buy a few from SideDeal, but something to consider 12 months from now.
@Tadlem43 it turns out you can, for a limited time on SideDeal. $50 each, though that’s actually a good deal in line with high-end multilayer round filter canisters, like the Dyson and other brands.
@pmarin Thanks. When I posted that, it was for members only and I figured they’d sell out soon. Can’t find them anywhere else, so what do you do when SideDeal doesn’t sell them anymore?
@obxer see the SideDeal site right now. But long-term, unless you stock up now (at $50 each), you might not be able to find them in the future. Also wonder if other brands like Dyson could be “hacked” to work in this – but those are expensive too.
@obxer@pmarin I’m wondering if it can be home brewed as well. I bought the unit and two filters. Will try to figure things out by then or just buy a different one anyway. Will def get my 200.00 out of it
Note that the Manual says it will not stop your cat’s evil plan:
Its bright, crisp LED
screen tracks temperature, humidity, and
air quality for a comprehensive look at
what’s going on in your space — cat’s evil
plan not included.
@tncbnc21 The Our Happi is still available for purchase, but yes the company is liquidating as someone purchased the license to the Happi name. We own the majority of remaining purifiers and have a healthy supply of filters that should feed customers’ needs for a while.
@Trenn I’m in Colorado and while it’s not necessarily ash, particles from fires can easily travel decent distances. Fires over 100 miles away decrease air quality noticeably. I’ve had issues over many summers with fire particulates. But even ash, you can still have ash but not be in danger from the fire (happened more than once).
@Trenn Unfortunately much of the west coast has to deal with very smokey air in late summer / early fall from forest fires many miles away. This used to never happen, but now it happens almost annually.
I live in the Seattle area (Everett). Here’s a short clip that compares two of the recent very smokey years.
The fan made an awful noise when I first set it up. Sounded like something was rubbing on the fan but I could not see anything though the grills so I decided to run it at full speed and see if it went away. It shook violently, and sounded like a lawn mower, but after a minute, or so, it went away. The particle counter is not working, maybe the fan ate it…
@lukeorsini damn. I haven’t had any issues with mine. My particle counter goes from 001 to 003 then back every once in awhile so unsure if that isn’t working or not. Def feels like the air is more airy tho
@troy haha, yes. I actually look a long look for more packaging that needed to be removed inside. I would guess there was a plastic stringer that wore off. It is working great now.
*Update: I seared a steak, for dinner, and filled the house with enough smoke to set off the smoke detector. After opening all of the windows and resetting the alarm, I heard a rush of air from the air purifier. The unit was reading in the 800s and was consistently dropping. I celebrated with a meat cracker for dinner. The fan is currently not making any rubbing or knocking noise.

I will wait until they have the Sad air purifier.
/showme sad air purifier
@fuzzmanmatt The showme command has to be in a new comment and not a reply. They really should fix that.
@yakkoTDI those jerks!
@yakkoTDI
@fuzzmanmatt Excellent.
@yakkoTDI I makes the things do what I want. I’ve worked corporate jobs, I know how to work around restrictions.
@fuzzmanmatt @yakkoTDI I think it’s just asleep in that image. Does this air purifier snore in “night mode?”
I want another Winix with all the extra filters. That thing works great, and always kicks into high gear when I fart, so I know it’s not lying about air quality!
@fuzzmanmatt Yep my two Winex are still going strong. The darn aftermarket filters on Amazon don’t quit fit snug though for sure.
Air we go again. You think you will make us Happi with this? An irk would make me happy.
@Kidsandliz
Even a $10 IRK would make me happy!
Will it remove the smell of Gwyneth Paltrow’s candle?
@werehatrack It is not her candle that stinks.
@yakkoTDI You know this how?
@detailer I always sniff my fingers after clam digging.

@IndifferentDude Where is the downstar button?!
@troy Guess your crack staff of programmers has a new project to complete ASAP!
There once was a time when people went outside, opened their windows, and actually breathed natural air. Now machines recycle our air. How long until they start recycling our food?
@hchavers
I think you’d call those leftovers.
@hchavers @Kidsandliz They can recycle our food all they want. I wonder when they will start recycling us.
@hchavers @yakkoTDI We get recycled into dirt.
@hchavers laughs in lives in yearly wildfires
@hchavers @Kidsandliz @yakkoTDI
Wouldn’t recycling us be the good ole organ transplant?
And I thank my lucky stars for it!
@hchavers do you seriously think this is a co2 scrubber and oxygen generator???
Or were you just dead set on making a real “profound” statement…
@hchavers @Kidsandliz @yakkoTDI See “Soylent Green” circa 1973… although not after a big meal!

denial - this air isn’t dirty, I don’t need to filter it
anger - why is this air so filthy? I hate my owner! I’ll short something internally and burn the house down!
bargaining - if I pretend I’m a radio, maybe they’ll return me
depression - I’ll never be able to clean this air, I’m not worth the
$100$99.99 they paidacceptance - I’m overthinking this, they bought me on Meh, they’re probably just happy I turned on more than once
But it can’t make margaritas.
@mikesmells It would probably take a margarita and filter out all the alcohol.
@mikesmells No, but the filter is the color of a margarita.
First I saw filter life and thought it was like hash tag filter life!!!
And then I realized it is counting down to it’s own death because where will I get filters for this thing? I wish filters were something I could like hose down in the backyard.
@kus We are offering the filters on Sidedeal. We have a pretty healthy supply of them, so you’ll be able to purchase them from us if in need.
@kus @troy And the Amazon listing says you can rinse or vacuum the filters to extend their life.
@ircon96 @kus @troy The manual says vacuum, rinse was not mentioned in what I saw.
@kus @troy @werehatrack I haven’t seen the manual, i was just going by the “About This Item” section of the Amazon listing:

@AROAH Yes – although we have a pretty healthy supply of filters currently that should last us months, I’d recommend stocking up before we run out.
@AROAH @troy But won’t that just make you sell out sooner? Oh, right…
This was a buy for me until I found out you can’t get filters for it.
Oh, well…

Good luck finding any filters.

@obxer found some on Menards which is a Midwest “Home Depot” can find them all over the internet when I checked this morning before buying.
@obxer @pmarin I’m wondering if it can be home brewed as well. I bought the unit and two filters. Will try to figure things out by then or just buy a different one anyway. Will def get my 200.00 out of it
Note that the Manual says it will not stop your cat’s evil plan:
@pmarin I’ll wait for the version that includes this monitoring.
Soylent Green . .
Everything on the Happi website is sold out. Are they out of business?
@tncbnc21 The Our Happi is still available for purchase, but yes the company is liquidating as someone purchased the license to the Happi name. We own the majority of remaining purifiers and have a healthy supply of filters that should feed customers’ needs for a while.
Wow if its filtering “forest fire ash” you probably have bigger problems to worry about than just your air purity
@Trenn I’m in Colorado and while it’s not necessarily ash, particles from fires can easily travel decent distances. Fires over 100 miles away decrease air quality noticeably. PROBABLY just ONE MORE “hamster” buy…($20.⁰⁰ hamster , $250.⁰⁰ cage)
LUVERLY THOUGHT, Clean air…
TOTALLY NEW CONCEPT, no REAL hope for it…
I love that it is so quiet!

@lukeorsini You took the wrapping off of the filter before starting it, right?
@troy haha, yes. I actually look a long look for more packaging that needed to be removed inside. I would guess there was a plastic stringer that wore off. It is working great now.
