On the Goat Again (May 2026 Scapegoat Blame Thread)
6Now that we’ve finished with all the foolishness of last month, it’s probably not too early to break out the summer clothes and goat down to the business of heat blame. Not that we didn’t keep things hot for @zippyus. We appreciated it, but blame was laid, and that time has now passed.
Despite a valiant push for alternatives, and even with a seconded nomitation on the first alt, it just seems like everyone agrees that May is a good time for a good guy. Yep, looks like it’s all you, @MrGoodGuy. Spend it wisely. We’ll spend it whining.

Goat out there and give it 110%.

Um … Thanks???
Guess I gotta accept the blame for forgetting to refill my namesake’s drinking trough; I’ll see if the resident artist bot can help me:
/showme an anthropomorphic goat using goatskin bags filled with ice-cold water to fill up an empty water trough so a tired and thirsty goat can get a refreshing drink.

@MrGoodGuy It is May 1st & it is Chilly here in the South! 50f. You need to do something! Maybe we should sent an Arctic blast your way… You get 100% of the Blame!
@mycya4me 50 degrees F?? Gee, if it were that warm here up North my human friends would be wearing shorts & T-shirts!!

Enjoy the refreshing coolness while you can! Soon you’ll be wishing for it as you skinny-dip in your pool and still can’t get cooled down enough!
/showme a guy named mycya4me sweating profusely in his swimming pool that he has icebergs floating in that he had imported from the North Pole. He still can’t get cooled down and is wishing it was still 50 degrees Fahrenheit like it was on May 1st.

@mediocrebot Ha! Love it! Great job Mr. Bot!!
@mediocrebot @MrGoodGuy I hope the goatskin bags are just a name and not literal.
@mediocrebot @MrGoodGuy Yeah, those icebergs aren’t working because they are not plugged in.
@cfg83 @mediocrebot Hey, ya gotta use all the dead meh goats for sumthing; can’t let 'em just waste away!
@mediocrebot @MrGoodGuy OMG, you are right …
… Gonna go drink some milk.
BLAME: It’s raining. UNBLAME: Because I can haz new roof (done right this time), there are no leaks anywhere, and the new fascia isn’t getting soaked with drippage! Large grin of relief!
@werehatrack Please direct those rainclouds up here - Colorado needs them!
@werehatrack Great to hear my team is doing a spectacular job!
/showme a herd of goats maintaining a grass-covered roof on werehatrack’s house by cheerfully munching down the grass so that the roof stays waterproof and the facia is dry.

@mediocrebot @MrGoodGuy If that was in New Zealand, I’d consider living there.
@mediocrebot @MrGoodGuy @werehatrack Methinks you are a hobbit, werehatrack!
@Kyeh @werehatrack ok …

Grumble grumble. Dryer worked once then started tripping the breaker. Which I kinda figured might happen when the thermal fuse blew…
Not a big deal I’ve had the drum out before. Just very annoying
@unksol Simple solution … go “Au Naturel” and let Mother Nature do the drying!! I’ll even get my friends to help:
/showme a clothesline full of laundry with a goat at each end pulling a rope in it’s mouth to help the clothesline swing back and forth for faster drying.
@MrGoodGuy Here’s the image you requested for “a clothesline full of laundry with a goat at each end pulling a rope in it s mouth to help the cl…”
@mediocrebot Not sure how the goats are helping but the clothes do appear to be swaying.
@MrGoodGuy the couch cover already dried outside yesterday and has before. The rest of the load was hanging off the balcony/deck today. There’s nothing wrong with a clothes line?
That being said it was snowing/sleeting this morning. And a hard freeze warning tonight. Never mind rain. Not always an option. Never mind the last 6 months
Probably the 25 year old 120V motor which needs cleaned/lubed or replaced. It should pull little current after the peak start current unless it was having issues.
But it could be pulling hard for a number of reasons and once it signals the heating element it’s started it’s going to pull the 120V and one side of the 240V heating element through a single pole of the double pole breaker.
Not that surprising. Mildly annoying.
Kids clothes… Sorry honey you’re going to have to wear something else while I get the part
Definitely worth noting. Your AI queries are using more power and water than my washer/dryer ever have.
Using AI to post pictures of a clothes line os extremely strange
@MrGoodGuy also I have no problem with “Au Naturel” especially while drying out from the shower just because I currently live “alone”. I mean dry off. Close the curtains.
But if you have a kneady cat that wants in your lap. Not that shorts or sweats are much of a deterrent. But. Gotta post a defence
@mediocrebot @MrGoodGuy Awe, using FREE Solar Power to help dry the Goats. Of @MrGoodGuy is helping, he is so BAAAAAAAD!
@MrGoodGuy @unksol I had a malfunctioning Dryer once, I called a dryer tech, he tore it down tried to replace a few parts, even had the drum out, tried every trick he knew, then he got to the Brain of the old dryer, Yep you need a need a new board. It was NOT worth it! I went out to a Scratch and dent store & found a great open box dryer. For a few extra $$ they said they would deliver, set up & remove the Older one! It was a good deal! Then they had to deal the 4 up to the back door! The newer one is working great!
That was many years ago, Can I retroactively blame the current goat for that issue?
@MrGoodGuy @mycya4me lol that is always an option when it comes to control boards. The electric oven that was in wall did not work. I pulled it a few times and checked everything. But looking at what a new one would cost electected to send the control board to a repair company which did cost 100+ but was far cheaper than a replacement
I agree old washer/dryers are cheap and just work. These are late 90s/early 2000s. They are purely electro/mechanical. No control boards to mess with.
Basically they operate off a fancy egg timer. It doesn’t need to think. You set the cycle and time cause you were taught how to do laundry. Lol.
That being said the washer does put current through it’s timer when it triggers the drain cycle which has caused some contactwear. It needs a bump to get it over. I pulled it once and got an ebay replacement. If I went in with an emery cloth I could probably clean the contact surfaces up.
But yeah. The whole “fancy” and expensive ones that die every 5 years. Not. Really my type. The parts the control boards call don’t really change. You can still get motors. Switches. Etc
The full wiring diagram and mechanical timer schematic was literally under the hood when I opened it. Like it should be
The Dryer was Old I did a Cost to Replace the board Vs the Cost of replacement, Plus I did consider the advice of the Tech that came, asking “what would he do” Plus how much time I would have of it was fixed. It was Determined that would cost less in the Long Run… Since I am Corp Computer Hardware repair tech. I use that all the time at Home. is it worth it!
As I said I prefer Open Box/ Refreb better than New in Box (NIB) The washer failed a few years earlier.
@mycya4me I’m an electric engineer tech. According to my degree. But beyond a multimeter I just don’t have the equipment here to diagnose much on a board without a known failure point/component. Trying to diagnose by eye/ check every contact/component. Especially if it’s a solder joint… Yes the old bake it in the oven but…
For the furnace I have bought a replacement control board. Something nawed through the wires going to the AC outside the house and shorted them.
For the oven. A replacement control board was like $500 or something. Trying to find a new oven that fit was $1000 and might fail again.
Having them go through the circuit board was less than $200. And to be clear this is not the company I used just what I googled as an example. I think I was able to find a specific repair facility. I would have to dig it out of email
https://cboardrepair.com/collections/oven-control-boards
But for a washer or dryer. I would not be u
Buying things with control boards in the first place.
I don’t need an lcd and a camera in my fridge either lol
@mycya4me @unksol
Been contemplating on what to do about the LED on my double oven that has become almost impossible to read in day lite. So far I can make it out if I cup my hands over and put my face up to it but it’s getting tougher
@chienfou @mycya4me those are usually just a ribbon. Cable to a display. Id just take it apart and get the part number. Most of the time it will come up on Google.
Obviously see manual for that. It its in the middle and a display for both getting at my may be more complicated. Hopefully it’s just a display not controls? Still should be separate from the control board …
Led display 123456789
There are a ton of repair part websites. If you search your oven model number you can get an idea of what you’re in for. I usually like to get the part number off the actual part. But if that’s your only/main oven… And if cheap. Id order it ahead…
I have an oven and stove and they put another oven in the cabinet below space for a microwave it. Since it was a single was able to slide it out on my own onto a chair and disassemble.
Def want help for extracting a double.
@chienfou @unksol I like the I FIX it site & have many of their tools
@unksol I like bare bones for those devices They do one thing. They don’t need to do anything else & NOT be IOT!
@unksol My Rule of thumb is 1 what is the cost of replacement. If fixing it is 1/3 the price of the Open Box/ Refreb or New. I fix it, unless it is Aged, (electronics - vendor stoped putting updates for it!) If it is Frig, Wash/ Dry or stove. It depends on age. IOT.
@chienfou @mycya4me @unksol I have a double wall oven. The controls are odd: on the panel the bottom oven has mechanical knobs but the top oven has membrane switches. The top oven comes on at a setting of 350 degrees and there is an “up” and “down” button to fine tune the temp.
After many years, the top oven temp “up” button quit working, so it could be set for temps of 350 or lower, but not higher. Replacement parts are not available, so we just dealt with that limitation for several years. Then one day the top oven’s “up” button began working again - so far, it continues to work. Weird…
@chienfou @macromeh @mycya4me that is a unique setup/lots of things call for 350 or can be adjusted plus if you’ve got another oven. I would be solidly in the “I’ll just deal with it” camp
@macromeh @mycya4me @unksol

That’s actually very much like ours is. Top one has electronic controls, bottom one has analog controls. It primarily gets used to make bread. We have a countertop toaster oven/air fryer that gets used for most everything that gets baked since there’s just two of us usually.
@chienfou @mycya4me @unksol Yeah, ours is pretty similar. Can’t really complain too much after 28 years of use!
@chienfou @macromeh @mycya4me that seems like a very weird control choice. Bet they wanted the controls to be specifically distinct… Which. That definitely eliminates any confusion

BLAME - we are currently having a tornado media event. No where near me.
@Kidsandliz UNBLAME: The tornado is nowhere near you.
@werehatrack well true but I wanted to watch TV.
Since there is a lull in metizens finding anything to blame me for, I decided to have a professional portrait done to celebrate my selection as meh’s May Goat. Aren’t I just the most handsome fella?? (and modest too!!)
@MrGoodGuy Those are some odd-looking handle bars!
@macromeh @MrGoodGuy Yeah, think of how long they took to make!
Hey everyone! Just here to say I’ll be pre-occupied today so hold off on your blames until tomorrow please. I’ll be traveling with my posse on that scenic road out West, you know, the one that everybody “gets their kicks on”. It’s number just happens to be the same as the age I am turning today! So, hope you don’t mind me postponing my “blame duties” for a day as I celebrate my Birthday!

@MrGoodGuy Love that Corvair!
@cfg83 @MrGoodGuy

@MrGoodGuy Ok, I met the squirrels demands for better food. I found no-salt roasted peanuts at Ralphs. While a few squirrels showed up, I had to leave “offerings” of peanuts at the based of trees. I am displeased. I expected ACCOLADES for my effort.

Boy, this job is way easier than I thought! Guess I’ll just take a little siesta!
@MrGoodGuy
Today is the primary election locally. I’m sure there will be a ton of (local) folks with stuff to “piss-n-moan” about tomorrow.
@MrGoodGuy I BLAME the rest of us (including me) for not complaining more).

BLAME: My IRK was neither so terrible that I was inspired to post an extended Rant® nor so wonderful that I was actually pleasantly surprised. It was just sort of 100% entirely appropriate; it was, indeed, MEH.
@werehatrack
If there was insufficient regret associated with your recent IRK you can always contact customer support and demand an up charge.
@chienfou @werehatrack Or ask others to send their most regrettable items to you …
@chienfou @Kyeh I have some rechargeable face-and-neck mask things that I’d happily toss in.
