OMG LOOK WHAT I FOUND!!! Does anyone else have something from way back when with meh that is relatively unique?
12I am downsizing. I was going through quilts and blankets and I found a meh throw that is pretty thick and 100% cotton (at first I thought it was a fleece blanket until I looked at the tag).
This was an early meh item (can’t remember when as it isn’t in my purchases thus it was in an irk (well technically a fuku or fuko). I haven’t even used it (likely was afraid my kid would ruin it spilling food on it although I am sure the cats would have claimed it.). I was shocked to find it I had so totally forgotten about it. Does anyone remember anything about these?
So does anyone else have something interesting from the early days of meh that came in a fuku or fuko?

I bought mine February 13th 2018 12:01am ET. It was a Two for Tuesday $20. The glory days.
@heartny Thanks. At least I now know how long ago that was. Looking back through my order history I saw I had a solar powered battery charger from 2015 that I still leave on my car’s dashboard. Used it a total of once so far to charge my phone when I took it with me when I took kids to the zoo, and the flash light on it a couple of times but that one time I could charge my phone off of it was incredibly useful.
I’ve been on Meh a little over 10 years and have more than my share of knives, speaker docks, and powerbamks.
My earliest Meh purchase was a Targus backpack.
Figures. Backpacks exert a siren’s call on me.
One of my most unique (and early, oct 2016) was
Only used once or twice before losing them to a house fire several years later.
Not good at internet jousting, so never managed to get a fuk(u/o). I much prefer the current IRK sales scheme.
@phendrick
I miss the funny things like bag bowls and two for Tuesday
Filed under seems like a good idea at the time.

@chienfou Hey, I still (occasionally) use my chip making set! Once you figure out the correct process/settings, it actually works pretty well.

And the bonus is: the process is just onerous enough that I don’t make/gorge too many chips at a time.
@chienfou @macromeh I used that mandolin for salad cucumbers for several years before it got dull. I think I tried the chips once or twice and moped out. And I love chips!
@chienfou so that’s why I have a second mandoline. I wonder where the other piece is
My first order in January 2017. I do not have them anymore.
@kittykat9180, I still have these, and orange ones, too. The rubber covering on all of them are now sticky 🫤
i’d love a Meh throw.
@f00l Hmm… I might debate with myself about parting with it…
@f00l how far would you throw it?
@pakopako
Far enough to cover my toes.
@Kidsandliz
I don’t wish to extract anything from you, if you want to keep whatever the thing is.
But if you really want to downsize the Meh throw, I would likely take it off your hands.
It’s nice what you are doing here.
If you really do not want it anymore, do you think it might be stuffed into one of those flat fee postal boxes?
Apologies for late reply. I’ve been pretty busy and sometimes don’t keep up at Meh as I should.
@f00l @pakopako
You short enough for it to do that?
I haven’t measured it yet. It’s (standing and holding it) about from my shoulder to the floor. I am (having shrunk with old age) about 5’9 and a smidge, down from 5’10’ (although with scoliosis I have no idea how tall I really would be), if that helps.
@Kidsandliz @pakopako
Shorter than you. Things that cover toes usually cover my toes.
I can’t look up my first purchases bc I’ve accidentally deleted my account a couple of times (I don’t even go near that button now). I think my second or third purchase was charger cords that were 3 in 1 that you plugged into each other to work, I could be completely wrong though. I know I’ve been a member since 2016. When did meh first start?
@Star2236
Sometime before October 2015 for sure. That’s when I joined.
@chienfou @Star2236 Early July 2014 I think? Maybe around the 9th or 10th? I remember I was on here about 4 or 5 days before I joined and that was the first week they were open.
Originally I discovered meh via their kickstarter as I had been looking for a case study company for a class I was teaching. Then later I had another class use it as a case study for how to build community as JonT was so successful and so good at it. They had to read quite a few of the forum posts, not just the current ones, and relate what he was doing back to class concepts and how that might translate into doing that in the work place. Most of the students found it really interesting to try to figure out how he did it.
@chienfou @Kidsandliz @Star2236 July 8th 2014 was Day Zero for Kickstarters.
@chienfou @speediedelivery @Star2236 I remember I found the forum shortly after it opened and kickstarters were mostly the ones on there in initially. So based on what you said I saw it right after it opened and then about 4 or 5 days later (eg “joined”) created a log in.
@speediedelivery
And still, YOU joined a full 10 months earlier.
Kudos!
@chienfou Back then I lurked on Deals.Woot. Someone posted about Mediocre.com and I became Fearless Leader Rat #308
@speediedelivery
I wonder what other ancient rats are still lurking about…?
@chienfou

Raises paw.
“K” badge = Mediocre Lab Rat, even if it is covered by another badge.
@rockblossom
was actually curious whose # was lowest/oldest.
@chienfou I don’t know who has the lowest LR numbers, but I think @oppodude was #72 or thereabouts.
@chienfou @rockblossom I am #72. How you … I am not even going to ask. I mean the 7 & 2 candles they sent me were nice and all …
but let’s see, first purchases were the Day 0 t shirts, on 7/8/14. Since then I have probably bought… way too many shirts.
@chienfou @speediedelivery How do you find your #? I joined at around 6AM that day…
@Jasongb I have mine in an old email.
1 Cranberry and Mint, on November 24th 2016 4:35am ET
And then lots of knives, speaker docks, power banks.
Some stuff I don’t even remember buying and a surprising number of things still in service.
@mehcuda67
I love my Martian watch, unfortunately I fucked it up somehow, trying to change out the battery…
@chienfou Ow. Loved my Martian, because it was only smart enough to discretely let me know who was calling/texting when my phone was on silent. And it was a real watch. I successfully changed out the battery on mine, but then later one of the prongs holding the watch band cracked. My track record with superglue on similar repairs has been pretty spotty, so I think it now resides under some papers on my desk. Probably should do something about the watch (and papers), maybe tomorrow. Or the day after…
@mehcuda67
If you haven’t already tried it, I would suggest something like Bondic (or a generic equivalent of UV activated resin… way cheaper and works just as well). I have found that to be amazingly practical for this kind of repair.
And yes. My favorite “kind of” smartwatch…
@mehcuda67 I had two of them (different colours) and all sorts of quick change replacable bands to match my outfit.
Not sure why I stopped… think I just got lazy about keeping a charged battery… I might get myself one of the new Pebbles that have the batteries that last a month between charges some day.
My first purchase:
Still use 'em today.
Second purchase was flying battle robots that had to have been a gift for my nephews.
My third purchase was a ukulele for my wife, which she still plays.
My first uniquely Meh purchase was the black on black Meh shirt which I still have as well.
I bought the microwave chips set as well. Liked the to resulting chips okay. Didn’t consciously get rid of it that I can recall, but haven’t seen it in some time. It may be tucked away in a cabinet somewhere.
@djslack I’m envious about the cutting boards ! I got some of those at a Container Store, I think, but when I went looking for another couple of them, they weren’t available. They’re really good!
I wish they’d bring back the stealth Meh shirts.
@djslack @Kyeh
In better shirt quality
@djslack @Star2236
!
100% …That sounds like a shirt that wasn’t assembled properly and not a throw.
I still have my very first Meh purchase from 2016. Please ignore the paint bits as sometimes ceiling drywall needs to be replaced and repainting needs to happen. I blame the goat
@capnjb Still have my first purchase too… Emergency Kit for the car. Stays in the back of my car still. Never needed it in over a decade. (Think jumper cables only thing I’ve used).
The moment I take it out I’ll have an emergency… of course everything inside it has probably degraded by now.
Not my first purchase, but a girl never forgets her first speaker dock
Probably the favorite thing that I have is one remaining bottle of “Monkey 2nd Prize”

April Fools 2011!
Can’t post and actual pic as the bottle is currently 982 miles away
But I do still have my fist purchase - it’s now a basement TV for gaming (DreamCast and original XBOX so the resolution is just fine)

@Pufferfishy Nice
I still have my Dreamcast and a Sega Saturn
I was sad when Sega got out of the hardware business. Heh.
@capnjb @Pufferfishy reading up on the company history, it was miraculous they were in the hardware business as long as they were
@capnjb @pakopako I have to say that, having this thread lead me to taking a trip down memory lane through 27 pages of past purchases on the “old woot”, I really, really miss the glory days of the phenomenon that was the original woot.com.
I don’t know enough about the business to know or why it’s been difficult to repeat offerings of the diverse and desirable items of those times, but I’m somewhat amazed at the stuff that I bought from this site. (really nice) Rugs, tools, appliances, serious exercise gear, a bike!, high-end “fully automatic” coffee makers, seriously kick-ass pressure cookers, a “floating” glass sink!, a flippin’ cabinet smoker that I hacked the shit out of!!! I still have so much of it “in service” - including the entertainment center that holds my TV to this day…

(TV is WAY bigger these days)
@Pufferfishy it might just be the case of “it’s harder to find (enough) trash to dig through” and a combination of “we have so much warehouse and not enough humans, let’s just turn this into discount retail”.
