Old and Bitter?
7Maybe I’m old and Bitter but I used to get excited for mehrathons and constantly check the countdown until the next deal. I was hopeful after woot! that we’d still have something cool and meh WAS cool for a long time but I’m so sad this is what meh has become. It’s not just that BOC and IRKs now have zero thrill involved (it’s still mostly crap, btw) but it used to be fun to try to click the button the fastest and beat the captcha. That’s gone now. I’m just sad that a website that used to be a true daily deal site has gone the way of all the other ones and turned into what it is today. End rant. Sorry if I pissed some of you off.

Isn’t there a badge for old Meh-ers of this era?
@TheAlmighty1 remehmbered?
I prefer to embody “Old and Salty”
@macromeh I think some sailing/marine experience required to be salty. Aaarh!
WRT the demise of the thrill of the chase for the IRK, I couldn’t agree more. And now that the price isn’t just a token, the sting of a poor one is greater as well. And in the current economic climate, joy is ever harder to come by everywhere; we’re increasingly forced to reckon with the issue of “Do I actually have a use for this which merits spending even a small amount to acquire it?” For me, the answer is almost always “No.”
As someone who had wifi so slow the chances of obtaining an IRK were subzero, I appreciate the new approach removes that barrier. But it replaces it with a financial one, and that’s not great.
What got me involved were the silly games, the year I finally stumbled onto them. I played the games because why not, that night I was bored. I assumed I’d get crap; instead I got some amazing stuff.
The surprise combo of crap and occasionally amazing stuff proved addictive enough that I literally got my first tattoo for it (and a couple others, because why not).
People who could, occasionally, win the chase? Miss the thrill. Of course they do. They were, very occasionally, “rewarded”. And that’s pretty key. So maybe bring back the very brief, very limited, $5 IRK, with no warning, so as to appeal to that demographic too.
@brainmist
But then the complaint would be ‘they weren’t ready’…
@brainmist I am not sure 5 dollars pays anymore for shipping, lol, but for 10 bucks I’d even do it
@chienfou them they’d have gotten exactly the experience they lamented was missing.
The days of crashing the meh server with the pursuit of an irk are long gone. With them went a bunch of technical headaches that provided, I’m sure.
I do miss the chase of it, it was a lot of fun.
Do not miss the million captcha Irk or whatever it was that both made fun of them doing it and made you do like a hundred of captchas all at once.
Seems like there was an issue doing them on mobile and not PC or vice versa?
In any event, that part I don’t miss.
I installed CAPTCHA to save my fellow robots from wasting money on this crap.
