@jbartus not sure that’s an issue. The goal of /jumble is to make it slightly more difficult to read, not to preserve a specific number of characters.

@shawn I thought the whole deal with jumble was that it’s a play on the whole ‘as long as the letters are all correct and the first and last letters are the correct ones the human mind can connect the dots and interpret the correct word’ thing? Unless I’m mistaken then introducing a duplicate of the last character consistently at an index of length - 2 extending the string by one character and shifting the last two characters to accommodate the duplicated character seems like unintended behavior.

I mean, if it’s intended then it just seems odd that it consistently only affects words longer than five characters in length and consistently adds only a single additional character, always a duplicate of the last, and always two characters before the end of the now lengthened string, even a word as long as pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis doesn’t change this behavior.

In case you missed it in context here’s a couple of examples:

word: pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis (length: 45)
generated output: pnleuoorcsoaoiclcscmopaoootnnccuinlriiiosmvsis (length: 46)

word: appropriately (length: 13)
generated output: apperaritopyly (length: 14)

Note that the Y at the end has been duplicated and included again at index of length-2

word: functioning (length: 11)
generated output: fuitcnoingng (length: 12)

Same deal, final G duplicated and inserted. This happens consistently with words longer than five characters in length:

word: before (length: 6)
generated output: beofere (length: 7)

word: longer (length: 6)
generated output: lognrer (length: 7)

Shorter words don’t have this issue:

word: exact (length: 5)
generated output: ecaxt (length: 5)

word: words (length: 5)
generated output: wrdos (length: 5)

word: than (length: 4)
generated output: tahn (length: 4)

word: five (length: 4)
generated output: fvie (length: 4)

As you can see, unless I am very much mistaken about the intended output of /jumble there is, sadly, a bug in your algorithm somewhere.

@shawn IMO, this is out of hand. It’s making the forum pages incredibly annoying and nearly impossible to read, especially while on a phone. I know I’ve spent less time here lately for just that reason. What was wholly a place for good conversation has oft turned into nursery school.

@shawn I will have to see if I can find a jsfiddle equivalent for node.js (know of any?) but this seems to stand out as a likely culprit in some manner:
