Meh community, unite (to help me be cheap)!
1I broke the screen on my OnePlus phone. It's a GSM phone, and I have t-mobile service. Where, oh crazy online hunters of deals great and small, have you found amazing celly deals?
@moose, if you have an unlocked GSM cell phone to sell, now's the time.

@ACraigL yeah this makes me nervous.
@marklog If you're ready to replace the phone anyways, why not try to fix it first? If the replacement goes bad, you may be able to sell the phone in need of a new screen for the cost of the screen you already purchased.. (do your own research, I'm just guessing!)
ok so heres a Moto E 2nd gen(quad core processor, 4G LTE and all the jazz) for $50
http://www.walmart.com/ip/Verizon-Moto-E-Prepaid-Smartphone/44052006
its "locked" to verizon BUT, since it has a sim card, people have been able to unlock it for GSM use
1.) Remove the band around the Moto E (THE BACK DOES NOT COME OFF!)! Only the outer band. DO NOT POWER ON THE DEVICE YET. (refer to the manual in the box to find the spot on where to remove the band, if you are unsure), and find the pre-installed Verizon sim card. Remove it, and replace it with your foreign sim (T-Mobile, at&t, Cricket, etc.).
2) Complete initial setup. During setup you should receive the following message with your T-Mobile or other sim inserted If you did not, you did it wrong and will have to do the "other" incorrect way others mentioned with the 4G switch etc.

3) Once you have finished setup, you'll notice you still won't have signal. Proceed to Settings-->More-->Cellular Networks--> Preferred Network Type. Go ahead and select "4G (recommended)".

3a.) [OPTIONAL IF STEP 3 FAILS FOR YOU] Some people seem to not be able to see this option. If you encounter this problem download
https://play.google.com/store/app...ow.network (you can simply search "network", it should be the first option), and select LTE/GSM auto (PRL) from the drop-down, and repeat Step 3 again, and it should appear now. Typically this step shouldn't be necessary if the device already detects a non-Verizon sim on setup and should switch to GSM mode, but this is the workaround.
4.) That's it! you should now get H+ service first, but it should connect to 4G LTE in a few moments. You should have data service, calls and SMS working. If for some reason your data service isn't working (! exclamation point in the signal bars) and/or if you want to make sure your MMS will work correctly, there is an additional step from here.

5.) Setting up your access point name. Proceed to Settings-->More-->Cellular Networks-->Access Point Names and enter the following information for T-Mobile
Code:
Name: T-Mobile
APN: fast.t-mobile.com
Proxy:
Port:
Username:
Password:
Server:
MMSC: http://mms.msg.eng.t-mobile.com/mms/wapenc
MMS proxy:
MMS port:
MCC: 310
MNC: 260
Authentication type:
APN type: default,supl,mms
APN Protocol: IPv6
APN roaming Protocol: IPv4Bearer: Unspecified
MVNO type: None
MVNO value: Not set
Tap the three dots on the upper right hand side and save, then make sure you tap circle on the right of it (it should go from an empty circle to a filled green circle to enable the APN).
All done!
That's it!

@communist thanks! I'll probably pick this up and keep as a spare while I try to replace the screen on the Oneplus.
@marklog Let me know how it works out for you. I've been stuck on a Windows Phone that I got for free after my Nexus 4 suffered a similar fate. TMo as well.
@JerseyFrank that's funny, a co-worker lent me his lumia 920 and i would really like it if the app store was worth anything. I just loaded the win10 TP- only a few bugs.. :)
@marklog I've got the Lumia 1520. I love the phone, but even with the "major" apps being there, they're already zombies or lag behind in features until they finally abandon it.
@marklog I'm sorry to hear that your screen broke, I'm having to take a road trip to get my iPhone screen replaced due to a screen issue, the first time I've shattered an screen in 7 years.
@sohmageek Everytime I replace my daughter's iPhone screen I end up with screws leftover. I've replaced it three times, it's a wonder it stays together.
@SteveOOO I think they put extra in just to mess with people who do their own fixes.
@marklog

@2many2no ohh whats that do? is it some sort of doorbell?
@2many2no Samsung, blue. Everybody knows one.
@thismyusername Ask not for whom the bells tolls; it tolls for thee.
@thismyusername We've traced the call... it's coming from inside the house.
@nadroj That's not getting the recognition it deserves, but I got it, sir. Well done.
people with a screen broken, if it is apple and with in a year since you bought it most likely it will have the manufacture 1 year applecare warranty. it is like 79.00 to get it replaced for water damage or broken device per claim. to check the applecare warranty use this from the apple site- https://selfsolve.apple.com/agreementWarrantyDynamic.do
you also may need to show proof of purchase - which if you bought it from your carrier as in from their website or their telesales group you may need to contact their customer care group. they can most definitely send you a copy and most of them time they can do that by email. if you purchased the device in store you will need to go to that store and they can provide you a proof of purchase. also if you need any help with finding the numbers for device look under settings - general- about - it will be listed as meid for cdma carriers. i am not to sure if this is the same for gsm or you can always call 1800-apl-care which is applecare warranty department.
@sprockett01 just don't call 1-800-S-o-S APPL. (the o is an o, not a zero). Porn.
@marklog here's some options at various price points http://www.prepaidphonenews.com/2015/06/prepaid-phones-on-sale-this-week-june.html
I picked up a Lumia 635 (Windows Phone) last week from Best Buy for $20 and tax. AT&T phones are easily unlocked, so for
Originally, I was going to wait for the 640, but at this price, I'll wait longer.
Yeah, like @ACraigL suggested, why not replace your opo screen (whaddya got to lose for trying, hmm)? And then wait for the glorious op2 to be released before obtaining a new phone. Or, well, the 64gb is currently on sale for 299. Don't settle, yo. Though I suppose you could browse swappa.com for something different.
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00OC0USA6
Amazon Fire Phone is $179 with a free year of prime. If you usually pay for prime already, then it's like $79 for the phone.
@Odi I bought this for my wife when she left her Oneplus at a Lions game, as punishment. She hates it. No native google apps support, over half of the android store doesn't work. The dynamic perspective is novel, but that's about it. As Prime members already It was a hell of a deal though as it extended our Prime Membership a year.
@marklog It's now $159 O.o
just saw this over at kinja and figured I'd post it here http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00MWI4HW0/
@Lotsofgoats Only 2G on TMo, and 3G elsewhere. Meh.
To follow up with those that are subscribed to this thrilling saga, I sent my phone back to OnePlus, at their cost. For $125, they are sending me a new phone. Pretty darned good deal!
thanks for the help, all. @nadroj, I plan on using your link when I replace my wife's Fire Phone- unless I can convince Oneplus to send me another one at that awesome refurb price.
