I didn’t think about it but I wonder if one could consider Max Headroom as a sort of predecessor in a sense to what vtubers are on Youtube and Twitch.
If you aren’t familiar with what a “vtuber” is it’s essentially a virtual person. It’s a 2D or 3D animated figure voice and animated by a person. They’re currently very popular, some of them with thousands of viewers every time they stream.
@Barney So you DO know about Max…that must mean you’re old, too. What yarn work project are you working on these days? An afghan would be a smart choice, winter will be here before you know it, after all!
@Barney So, how do you know @Targaryen doesn’t have an equally cool gran? (Btw, crocheting isn’t the only kind of yarn work… How about needlepoint? Cross stitch? Knitting? Macramé? It’s ok, your secret is safe with us! )… Anyway, I’m just sensitive cuz I’m on the downhill side of “over the hill” these days.

Anyway just a passing thought.
@Targaryen
Blipverts.
/image My work here is done.
@stinks My favorite blipvert is this one.
@Targaryen Close, but I’m not sure that’s 30 seconds of content in three.
More info on the origin of blipverts…
WARNING: This footage could be scarring for young viewers. Parental consent etc.
@stinks Ah I see now.
@stinks @Targaryen Yes, ZikZak became TikTok.
You are old.
@Barney Me or Max?
@Targaryen My great grandmother used to tell me about this show. It was one of her favorites. Do you know how to crochet, too?
@Barney
Man… your family had kids really young to have 4 generations in 40 years!

@chienfou Great point! (I sense a “keeping it in the family” epithet brewing out there…)
@Barney I have never crocheted. I once croqued… it came out ok.
@chienfou Just like bunnies.
@ircon96 I know about Max because Granny told me about the show.
I’ve never crocheted.
@Barney @ircon96 Well Granny was pretty hot back then….

He was a head of his time.

@phendrick
Let’s hear it for @phendrick, ladies & gentlemen! He’s here all week…try the veal & don’t forget to tip your waitress.
@ircon96 @phendrick
I always found the Max Headroom signal hijacking incident to be more interesting
@Bloodshedder
The commercials wore out their welcome fast, but I enjoyed the series.
Anyone remember this?
The Art of Noise with Max Headroom - Paranoimia (Official Video)
@tharri1 Man, the ´80s were great.
Now I’m closer to 80 than the ´80s.
@pmarin @tharri1 Yes, I do remember them from the late 80s. Had the 12". Art of Noise was produced by the legendary Trevor Horn.
Somewhere, I have a plastic Max Headroom watch.
@radi0j0hn Post a photo!
I mean, wasn’t space ghost just an upgrade of max headroom?
Of course I remember Max Headroom. Wasn’t this video around the same time., era.
@gfreek Well, that’s a very different 1986 Sledgehammer than I was expecting.
Instead, I thought of:
