Lady Gaga doing her excellent rendition of Billy Strayhorn’s “Lush Life.” When I learned this song (it’s a tough one!), this was my reference and wow, can she do jazz and the standards so well!
P.S. I’ve never gotten the last phrase exactly right, but I love singing the song anyway.
New Zealand singer Hayley Westenra performing “Oh Shenandoah,” a folk song believed to have been written in the 19th century by American and/or Canadian fur traders. I don’t think I’ve ever heard a singing voice so pure as hers.
@ItalianScallion Hah! It’s the surname of the lead singers (sisters) and it means “squatter” - or someone present without permission. I suppose their ancestors didn’t get much thanks from the old landowners - and maybe got blamed for things.
Side note I would love if someone made a playlist of any of these music discussions and shared it. Idk if there’s an easy way but usually it’s all good.
@mossygreen Super-weird that I’m getting a prompt to sign in, don’t know if it’s something everyone sees. Tried a different link, same thing. Could be a restricted thing because of the artist/song title combo? Anyway. Love me a good, strong Chicago accent.
I totally read that as female front end Friday. Thinking you were saying tons of female front end devs programming a glorious new ui.
@ircon96 Are you going to play?
@Kyeh Dang! Just when i was going to try to lie down (finally, after almost 30 hours)…i think I’ll post my favorite ironic lullaby for now.
@Kyeh Excellent song but not the Yseult I was thinking of.
@ircon96 30 HOURS? I hope you’re asleep now …
@yakkoTDI Are you going to post that one?
@Kyeh I was thinking of Sean Yseult, bass player for White Zombie, and member of Famous Monsters. Video down below.
@yakkoTDI That’s cool!
Bonus Riverby that apparently only exists on bandcamp. https://riverby.bandcamp.com/track/walk-through-the-fire
@ircon96 Incredible parkour!
Gave me the shivers!
@Kyeh Ikr? I could watch that kid all day! As i indicated, it’s not exactly relaxing–neither audio nor video–but very entertaining.

@ItalianScallion If you can sing it at all, I’m mighty impressed!
@ItalianScallion Nice.
I also like Linda Ronstadt’s cover of this song.
@macromeh That is a lovely rendition. Thanks for sharing it!
Anna Kendrick doing “Cups.” The video makes it fun!
I tried to learn the cup thing, but wasn’t entirely successful.

A young Janis Ian performing her poignant song, “Stars,” fifty years ago.
Norah Jones performing a lovely rendition of “The Nearness of You,” a standard from the Great American Songbook.
“Magpie” - The Unthanks
@rockblossom “Unthanks” seems like “blame” to me. What do you think, @milstarr?
@ItalianScallion Hah! It’s the surname of the lead singers (sisters) and it means “squatter” - or someone present without permission. I suppose their ancestors didn’t get much thanks from the old landowners - and maybe got blamed for things.
