James Harrison Dad/Man of the year
4With all the poor examples in the NFL being highlighted it’s nice to see this:
"I came home to find out that my boys received two trophies for nothing, participation trophies! While I am very proud of my boys for everything they do and will encourage them till the day I die, these trophies will be given back until they EARN a real trophy. I'm sorry I'm not sorry for believing that everything in life should be earned and I'm not about to raise two boys to be men by making them believe that they are entitled to something just because they tried their best...cause sometimes your best is not enough, and that should drive you to want to do better...not cry and whine until somebody gives you something to shut u up and keep you happy. #harrisonfamilyvalues"

wish people would stop ascribing values to my family
@harrison you guys are related? that's pretty meh.
@lisaviolet amen
@lisaviolet I got your new way to celebrate mediocrity right here, buddy.
@joelmw Does this mean I have to return the socks?
@Ryaneil Only if you don't want to celebrate mediocrity. I'm wearing mine right now. I feel all subversive.
Deebo!
so glad you are back for another season.
If being involved in sports is good for a child's health and character, then I don't see a net harm in giving them participation awards. A mouse never gets the cheese if you start him in the most difficult maze.
There's a time when part of that character development should include not getting a participation award. That time is not at 6 or 8 years old.
@JerseyFrank I don't think the participation award should be anything more than a pizza party. No trophy.
@Teripie I don't want yet another group giving my kids unhealthy eating habits. No pizza.
FTR that was just to offer a counter argument; I'm all for pizza parties.
@JerseyFrank I can see how that would build character. “Here kid. Here’s your little participation trophy. Now you run on home while the rest of us go to Pizza Hut and celebrate.”
@Teripie Put that pizza down!
Pizza is for winners only.
@JerseyFrank I think people are overly concerned with a "hey, you showed up and tried!" prize.
