My birthday is May 2nd. The last few have been less than stellar, though. 2019, was in the hospital on my birthday. 2020, in quarantine lockdown. No fun allowed. And this year, I’m not gonna get to do anything because my lungs are acting up again, and I’ll be too busy trying to stay out of the hospital to go out and play.
@Pony May Birthdays ARE THE BEST! I’m the 11th!
That stinks about being sick, i’m there with ya on that too. Growing old wasn’t sposta feel like this, was it?
It is the best and worst of months - everything growing, flowering, green and lush and baby birds and animals romping flopping around, the days are longer and warmer and the utility bills are lower …
on the other hand, the grass along the road and in the field is suddenly waist high, the back of the house needs painting and has dry rot to repair, there’s some serious spring cleaning to be done, unmasked auslanders from everywhere are flooding our highways and beaches, flies/ticks/mosquitoes are suddenly abundant …
yet we can sit on the back deck by the peeling paint, swatting bugs, and have a glass of rosé in the warm evening, watch the stars come out and listen to the owls hooting, so I’d say, overall, one of the best months.
@RiotDemon@tinamarie1974 A lawn service does mine now. It’s much more fun to watch them struggle with it. My dad got a tractor when he was older. I am sure it took him back to his days growing up on a farm. The emerging technology was the only thing he liked about farming. He became an engineer (the kind that held a slide rule, not a throttle).
@cristysue The plants this year have flowers and buds I don’t recall ever seeing before. I just touched on of them and the tiny thing let go of a ton of pollen! Guess I know why my nose is running. We have a new grass weed too. I asked at the botanical gardens and the volunteer knew exactly what I was talking about. She had to find someone who knew about plants and ask them about it. She never saw it before either.

@stolicat
ABSO-FREAKIN-LUTELY!
…and who cares about allergies and hay fever, just pop a gosh darn pill!
Monsoon season. Miss a chance to mow the lawn and you may not get another for a week, at which point the grass is a foot tall.
@ThunderChicken this is why I don’t mow my own lawn anymore. If I had a tractor, I probably would… Trying to deal with wet grass was a nightmare.
@RiotDemon @ThunderChicken I have q lawn tractor, and I hear the theme to Green Acres in my head whenever I mow

It’s like I closed my eyes and the year slipped away. Sorta reminds of a song, but I am glad it didn’t stay.
Very expensive month for me!! 6 birthdays! Moms Day. Memorial Day. Pulling weeds n grass seed. Allergies & migraines. I HATE May!
