Close my eyes, and tell myself a bedtime story. No not like a kid one it’s so I sort of like have these novel Like Trains of thought that I’ve used for years. Some science fiction some mystery some whatever. And I tell the same stories to myself over and over again probably changing some of them related to life experience. But it works for me
I have probably listened to “Storm Over Warlock” for 50+ nights …
I never hear the whole thing at one time. Instead I “piece” it together over many nights until I find all the parts I missed from night to night.
/showme Human wearing space suit is in space ship with alien that looks similar to small cat; the alien that looks similar to small cat is typing away at computer console.
@kittykat9180@spacemart I I did not play with my FIXED male cat, He would wake me upon the middle of the Nite to rub him, It is enough for him to try to wake me up before 7:30a
I remind myself that I’m retired, I can sleep all day if I want. This makes me so happy I drift off to sleep.
What I used to do, was remind myself that if I’m going to waste my sleep time, I’ve promised myself to do something useful, and if I don’t go to sleep, I have to get up and clean. ZZZZzzzzzzzzz
@cfg83 It’s fascinating how differently we’re all wired. I can’t have anything that’s coming from outside my head, normally. It has to be very very quiet.
Although as a small kid, I used to love dozing off in a restaurant, or in the bedroom where the coats were piled at a party, and hearing the warm reassuring sounds of people talking & laughing.
There’s another thing I used to do in my insomnia daze. I came up with a “prayer list” of people I care about. You just think of them and attach some well wish like “This is a prayer for Joey Spimoni, I hope that his foot is healing well”. The idea is that you are NOT thinking about yourself or your problems, you are sincerely hoping for something good to happen to someone you care about.
The longer the list, the better, because you have a decent chance of falling asleep before you finish.

@Cerridwyn When I was a kid, my favorite SF author was Andre Norton. Some of her titles are free on YouTube :

Toss and turn. Listen to an audiobook. Take a shot of vodka.
Initially going to sleep is easy for me (maybe 10-12 minutes after getting in bed).
Staying asleep is a different matter.
I remind myself that I’m retired, I can sleep all day if I want. This makes me so happy I drift off to sleep.

I have used this fellow to fall asleep because his voice is almost monotone …

Any person that talks about something YOU like without being frenetic helps.

@cfg83 That’s a cool idea!
@Kyeh Yeah, even if you finish before you fall asleep, you start the well wishes over again, so it’s like a mantra.
