34/45 and had I spent more time thinking about it maybe I would have gotten a few more than that but no way would I have gotten all of them. Photos would have been nice rather than drawings of them though. And in a couple of cases I would have liked to see more than one side of them. That is wasn’t multiple guess makes it harder.
@ruouttaurmind Yeah I’d agree. That is why photos would have been better. A couple when I saw the answer I know what they look like but in my opinion the drawing doesn’t look much like them so never would have guessed.
I didn’t know you had to press the go button on each field. I thought it would give me my total when I did the last one. What a waste of time. I’m not doing that again.
@f00l In general, I was okay with the challenge of the simplified graphics. But I was so sure that the Bombe was supposed to an abacus, I think I tried it 4 times (“I am spelling ‘abacus’ correctly, you stupid game”)
@djslack@ruouttaurmind Yeah, I stalled out at 31 and I don’t think I would have got another one on my own no matter how long I tried. Some I knew what they were going for, but didn’t know the exact model (e.g. VHS, Motorola Brickphone), but some I had never heard of (Sensorama)
After that, I’m pretty sure I’m too young to know the product / company names, and I refuse on principle to start guessing. (I bet I could get a couple more by guessing all the old computer names I know on all the old computer shapes.)
The quiz does accept near matches. So far it’s seemed fair. Can’t find the button to look at the answers.
@InnocuousFarmer it sometimes accepts near matches, but it frustratingly wouldn’t accept the manufacturer name for the ancient cell phone, you had to know the model.
@djslack Answer key is cool. It’s fun putting faces to names. I should have gotten the black laptop. No clue what that 3D printer / sewing machine shaped thing is, even after seeing the name.
@djslack OH! Nevermind. I’d misread its name in the answer key (imgur being fairly phone-hostile, couldn’t easily enbiggen it to full size, probably a deliberate effort to get you to install the app).
@djslack My guess was some kind of fancy microscope… that arrow made me think of a contact point. In a certain sense, I was vaguely on the right track.
Wow, you guys are pretty smart. I only got 20 before I gave up. There’s quite a few I know but it won’t except the answer. How do we get the answers???
I got 27/45, but I honestly guessed on a few of them.
32/45 so far. Some are really specific.
Made it to 38/45 before looking up the answer key. The remaining ones were definitely obscure.
Currently sitting at 25/45

Those blocky images are way too vague for the very specific answers they are looking for (Busicom for example?)

21/45 on my first pass. Now it gets tough.
Think I’m going to give up at 26. Getting tedious.

Fought my way up to 31 but pretty stumped on the rest.
I got to 30 pretty easily. I had to start “cheating” to make it much further than that. Currently at 35.
I am giving up at 34. I had to look up a couple of names for things that I recognized but couldn’t quite retrieve the names of from my aging RAM…
30 with some help on spelling. A couple more I recognize but apparently not specifically enough. No way to get the answers?
@katbyter
Right, where the hell do we get the answers?
32/45. A few I can’t get what they’re looking for. Like the TI pocket calculator. Do they want the model number? Or is it an HP?
A few I expected but don’t see. Like a Hayes modem or an acoustic coupler.
What terrible graphics. That quiz sux.
And the quiz didn’t work correctly in my browser, which gave me a great excuse not to bother trying each one.
Anyways: sometimes forgetfulness is a blessing.
/giphy I forget

I found this key when you really can’t stand not knowing any more.
@djslack Thank you. After looking over the key I don’t feel so bad about the ones I didn’t know.
@djslack that isn’t loading for me.
@craigthom @djslack try this:

Well that was fun. And now I feel stupid. 31/45 until I peeked.
That was annoying. I got twelve of the first thirteen, fifteen of eighteen, and then it went to hell.
I couldn’t figure out what it wanted for several. I got 26 before I gave up.

Edit: and all the failures also seem fair.

I linked to an answer key I found above.
