Help MEH! I need a fan
2So... Backstory... One of my Co-workers complains about it being "cold" at work... so he turns the heat up... Then I'm hot. I currently have a fan similar to this: http://www.amazon.com/BTOOP-Personal-Switch-Degree-Sturdy/dp/B00OXO2HWI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1462387307&sr=8-1-spons&keywords=desk+fan&psc=1
It's not good enough, I need a decent strong fan (not USB, or if USB it needs to work from an outlet, I cannot plug in things into PC's... Please help! I'm looking for one I Can put up high so not huge, but ideally one that's slightly louder/better at pushing air.

I think you need bigger fan
@compunaut that looks like it may work... but it says 25% quieter... I kind of want to be a pain in the ass about it so that I may not need the fan if he gives up changing the temp... :)
@sohmageek http://www.amazon.com/Hitachi-RB24EAP-2-Cycle-Handheld-Compliant/dp/B003VYC31Q
you did say you wanted to be a pain in the ass about it...
I am extremely fond of my Vornados.
@therealjrn
@therealjrn I agree, Vornados are great. But I also love my flower fan from CVS. Works in a regular outlet or USB. It's refreshingly cooling, yet quiet. And cute.
If those stupid rooster fans show up on here again tomorrow, I am blaming you.
If past history is any trend, with summer coming, we'll probably sell you a heater.
@dave Where was the A/C in December, huh?!?
And why isn't there moar catshirts here?
@narfcake they can't sell catshirts until they identify an off-season for catshirts.
@no1 But there's no off-season. Fuck!
@dave I could give it to him!
This one is great. If you prefer Amazon Prime, here's one that is similar, and has metal blades that tend to rattle. If it is too quiet, you can always loosen the screw that holds the blade a tiny bit to give it some more wobble room.
@MrMark I thought I was his biggest fan
How much space do you have? I don't think this one runs of USB.
http://www.bigassfans.com/
@narfcake They have one of these giant ceiling fans installed in the 'patio' (outdoors, but covered) of the T&P Tavern in Ft Worth. Works well in steamy summers
@narfcake Big Ass Fans to cool are required. It appears the weather is hot.

@compunaut that the one on the ground floor of the train station(i wanna say union pacific) that's been converted to luxury condos? Thats where i first saw a fan from big ass fans.
@earlyre That's the one (Texas & Pacific - T&P)
@compunaut
They have a tavern there now? I've been to some charity events, a decade or more in the past. Didn't know there was a tavern now.
@f00l The first-floor 'grand ballroom' (the original train station main lobby) in front nearest the street (Lancaster) is reserved for wedding receptions & such, but there's a space in the back near the train stops that's set up as a tavern. Original architecture & decorative work has been retained/restored - it's a nice space. Plus the aforementioned patio. Plus plus: all craft beers (24 rotating taps) are $3 on Wed nights
@compunaut
That sounds worth a Wed inspection. Thx.
@f00l Let me know. We can do a mini meht-up
@compunaut
Good idea, but you would need very very dark glasses. Not only am i insane, immature, unreliable, i'm also ugly.
@f00l Don't worry; we're not getting married
Everything is better after a couple beers. I'll skip the dark glasses - we can sit at separate tables if you want
@compunaut
Any particular hour? Any particular Wed? After 8:30 slightly better here, but flexible on that.
@f00l Currently playing Ultimate (frisbee) league on Wed nights until 10p, but there's only 2 more weeks left (FtW is closing all city fields for the summer).
10:30p-midnight or 8:30-10p (or longer) both can work as apprpriate; not sure what Thurs morns are like for you
@compunaut
Can't get wasted any weeknights...but am ok with those time's. Start 8:30 or so and see?
Where are the frisbee leagues playing? Any particular park?. Why is FW closing the fields? Priority to other sports?
@f00l If I'm starting @ 8:30 then we have to wait until 5/25; if YOU are starting @ 8:30 and I join you 10ish then it can be this week (5/11)

Fort Wort Ultimate leagues are currently playing @ Harmon Field park just E of downtown FtW; pickup games are usually played @ Gateway Park. FtW claims that ALL summer activities on city fields are causing long-lasting damage; they're calling it a 'recovery' season. Of course, other nearby cities who water, seed, & fertilize fields all year long don't have damage from usage
@compunaut
Can you do pickups in Haltom City this year (unscheduled, of course).
You means no baseball/softball/soccer leagues in the city parks this summer? :p.
Gosh, i wonder how the professional practice fields and the Arlington Sports complex near I20 manage to keep their fields playable. Too bad FW cant manage all those "really difficult"maintenance skills.
Waiting until 05/25 better for me since i'm drowning in family paperwork at present. That good for you?
@f00l Works for me. I'll need a reminder 5/23-24 because

@compunaut
Let me setup a temp email i dont mind posting here. Gimme a day or two.
I purchased this one for my desk at work and I love it. It's super quiet (So much so that once or twice I left it on all night not realizing it was still on when I left) and it pushes enough air that i keep it on low.

@sohmageek thanks for bringing up this topic and the mehs who gave the ideas. I for one needed ideas.

I have to ask... What is everyone's areas set at temperature wise at work? I used to work in a 65 degree area, they sectioned it off and now it's 69-71, this person is cold and turns it to 72/73 which I'm just about dying in... I like it to be 20's outside... then I can deal with 73 inside... otherwise I want it about 68 or so..
@sohmageek ok i never understood that why do you want it warmer when it is cold outside. Wouldn't you be wearing heavier clothes in the winter? I heat to 65 in winter and ac to 80 in summer
@CaptAmehrican nope. Short sleeves year round. Occasionally I'lol wear an undershirt. But it's not always.
@sohmageek It hit 100 outside today (technically yesterday now) where I am.
:(
@Al_Coholic
You mean "100" was just walking down the street bothering nobody and "It" just up and punched "100" in the mouth?
Oh, wait. Confused. Hell, what did you say? What did i say? Huh? Damn, that's what hot weather does to me.
You must be in Death Valley or AZ or something. We prob have 4-7 weeks yet if we're lucky.
@f00l Yeah that's what I meant, apart from the "bothering nobody" part. And yeah, AZ.
@Al_Coholic
AZ summers. I have heard the tales, small children are frightened, adults know it's real....
@f00l "But it's a dry heat!"
@f00l @Al_Coholic
http://shirt.woot.com/offers/a-dry-heat
@Al_Coholic Okay, I'm weird, but I love Arizona summers. Shimmering heat rising in the desert, the highest UV radiation level in the country, hostile fauna
and flora
, flash floods and all. Except for the rattlesnakes. I really don't like rattlesnakes.
@rockblossom Feeling like you're being baked alive as soon as you set foot outside, dirt, rocks, and more dirt, water evaporating as soon as it hits the ground, vehicles overheating, and a massive load on the electrical grid every afternoon... What's not to love?
@rockblossom the only thing I like is the rain
@Al_Coholic Hah! But it was so much fun living in a house with just a swamp cooler, working in WWII era buildings at Ft. Huachuca with no air circulation at all, battles with cactus and tumbleweeds (which I lost and still have scars) and getting into a car that had been sitting in the sun all day. Good times! Now people have carports and air conditioning, the wimps.
@Al_Coholic
Never been to Phoenix, Tucson, etc. Now 4 corners....i dream of it. I dream that it dreams of me.
@Al_Coholic I think you know who to blame for the heat...
@compunaut
Before you cart me to the Batshit Crazy Bin:
:::::
Four Corner is (for me) a shorthand phrase for Indian Country: the desolate areas near Four Corners and the San Juan River. I have, afaik, no Native American ancestry, and close to zero cultural knowledge. Given all that:
Go there. Get away from the road, by foot, bicycle, horse, burro, nothing mechanized. Go alone, or with an animal, or just a few people, who are willing to be quiet. Get to someplace where you have a distance view. Stop, sit, listen, think, watch. Wait. Be slow to move, slow to talk, slow to leave. Just wait.
See if that place and space speak to you. See if you don't dream of that place, and what you heard, saw, felt, long after, in another, normal place.
See if you don't wonder if that place doesn't dream its own dreams, apart from ours.
:::
Re the Batshit Crazy Bin...flunked the entrance test. Perhaps hard to imagine, but true. Sorry.
@Al_Coholic
@sohmageek
Can you drink iced/chilled drinks all day long? Hydro Flask?
That might help a lot.
@rockblossom Up until about 3 years ago I lived in a house with a swamp cooler (it did have two window AC units, but it was a decent size house), and a single car garage, so the others were always parked outside. Slightly cooler part of the state than now, but still...
And even now I park at a bus stop with little to no shade and take the bus from there to work every day, so my car still sits in the sun until about 5 in the afternoon when I head home...
:(
@f00l it's possible that you may just be normal crazy and not the batshit variety. :D
@Al_Coholic
Is that a compliment or an insult?
Do i feel "special", or just one of the herd?
Confused again. Must be the heat.
@f00l Both. Or neither!
@f00l Actually being crazy just means that you fit in really well here, so I guess whether it's a compliment or an insult depends on what you think of the rest of the community.
@Al_Coholic
Uh-oh. Beginning to understand that hanging out at Meh is Yet Another Character Flaw.
That list was already LONG.
I think you should get your coworker a heater (even if he doesn't deserve one) so you can turn the temperature back down. It's much, much more effective to warm one person up than try to cool even a small part of a hot room.
The infrared ones with a dish are wonderfully directional.

@trisk
Some employers dont allow heaters. Safety risk or something.
Power
Vornado
More Power
Lasko
I have the lasko, it blows rather nice for how little space it takes up. Vornado is also nice just doesnt have the power of two fans.
I say bring back the Zippi and/or Flippi!
Here's a perfect desk fan
You can do it! I believe in you! Go get 'em!
..oh. damn. wrong kind of fan.
Why not just a good old fashioned box fan?
How about we go refurbished window ac unit?
I'm a fan.
What about a desk fanfic? Will that help?
Oh that kind of fan. Here was already to cheer you on to whatever glory. Bummer
Please someone at meh take a peice of paper that says meh fold it up into a fan and ship it to him.
@CaptAmehrican
I didnt know you wanted to be a shipper with @sohmageek!
@sohmageek I have a clip on fan at my desk that is perfect. This one...
