I don’t usually get Halloween costume ideas, but today I was gripped by a fantasy of dressing as the Starbucks siren. Let’s just all just take a moment to appreciate that that’s not going to happen.
I’ve been the same thing for several years, so I’m all set for Halloween. I am going to a party earlier in the month though, and I’m not 100% sure what I’m wearing, even though I have a general idea.
Halloween is a weekday again. Between work always running late and safety nutsies determining trick or treat ends at 7PM, there’s sadly not much point.
‘no but i should’ i.e. ‘no but i should decide if we’re even doing anything for halloween this year.’
if we go out i might try a little. i had an idea over the summer that i’d like to go as a version of john cusack from say anything, but the jacket i wanted sold out in my size and oddly no one on ebay, amazon, etsy, or hot topic is selling that particular clash tshirt so…think that ship may have sailed.
last time we went out for halloween i wore a tshirt with a jack-o-lantern face on it and my necklace that says ‘spooky.’ my partner ordered a mask via amazon prime last minute which he didn’t end up wearing and asked to borrow my eye liner about ten minutes before we had to leave. that’s pretty typical for us.
i really hate dressing up (for anything but especially halloween) but if we go out i try to be a good sport and at least make an effort to be vaguely holiday appropriate. but the other thing is i’m not inclined to spend lots of money on something i won’t wear ever again.
@jerk_nugget last year at a Halloween party I dressed as a pirate. The only thing I bought was a sword at the Dollar Tree. Everything else was in my closet.
I’m trying to do the same for this year’s party. The only money I like to spend on my Halloween costume is the same one I wear on Halloween. I just keep adding a little bit every year.
@RiotDemon I was going to put on a sword and baldric as part of a Halloween costume years ago but my wife wouldn’t let me. That didn’t come from the dollar store… Still had the heavy cloak, chain coif and great helm back then (since sold).
My wife stopped me. No fun at all. Armor is apparently ok, but live steel not so much.
No mention of kids? Halloween is a huge topic in my house. There’s a new blow up costume that is $50. Ridiculous. But, I have a wish list of projects that I want done. So, I’m resorting to bribery rather than threats.
I dont know if it’s nationwide or only here, but Savers is having a 50% off clothing sale on Monday. Good opportunity to get costume stuff. They also sell a lot of costume things which won’t be on sale but you could get your accessories at the same time. Pirate, witch, gypsy fortune teller, hippie, etc are pretty easy to put together out of old clothes and a few accessories.
@narfcake Locally, the way it works is, you donate stuff to Candlelighters (helping kids with cancer), and they sell it at a bulk rate to Savers, which then sells it for-profit. It’s sort of an inside out charity, as you are retroactively contributing to Candlelighters by buying the things they sold to Savers. Must be a good deal for them or they’d open their own thrift shop. It’s my understanding that the charities vary, but this is basically how all the Savers work. Could be wrong, though.
@moondrake For the charity, there’s no overhead. They don’t yield anywhere near as much as Savers, though. $6 (+ tax) for a worn neckstretch Anvil woot shirt? Nope!
Red White and Blue is the same; donations go to the charity and they in turn “purchase” those donations in bulk to resell as a for-profit operation.
I got this shirt at The Wal-Mart. My wife says I’m a “Grandpa Prostitute” The kids just love Tacocat and who am I to deny them. So this is my Halloween costume. Lame? Yes. Effective to get a laugh out of kids without scaring them? Yes and yes.
And, I love me somePalindromes
Throughout our neighborhood each home has had it’s gas line replaced so our yards look like this. I am getting everyone to put a tombstone at the newly filled graves.
@RiotDemon My character is a pooltoy wolf, but unfortunately physics prevent that from working right as a suit without looking creepy lol. So, I pose with inflatables instead!
I’m way too worn down to actually assemble the merberus (mermaid skirt + dog mask + 2x dog hand puppet) costume I was conceptualizing for 2017, so merberus 2018 here I come!
I’ll go as a nutcase flakeout asshole.
@f00l I didn’t know Mediocre Labs was hiring.
@f00l if your asshole is feeling flaky, may I recommend investing in a decent bidet?
@f00l I’ve been wearing that one all year.
@f00l Do you mean as a resident of any state that has legalized cannabis or is that your order number?
@rtjhnstn
I mean that as a legal resident of the 1960’s.

@UncleVinny You need a shirt. I wear mine to Panera’s.

@OldCatLady Shai Hulud!!!
The usual
“I’m wearing it right now” meaning “I am wearing gym shorts and a t-shirt, and have no plans to alter that scheme for Halloween.”
In fact, since it is October 6, it may actually be the same shorts and t-shirt.
I never claimed to be a role model.

Weekend Halloweens are much more fun
I can’t believe it’s been nearly 30 minutes and this hasn’t shown up yet.
(high quality audio version)
I’ll be the guy dressed as “man getting home from work”.
@djslack That’s my least favorite costume, wage earner.
@djslack
/giphy salaryman
I’m scary enough, I don’t need a costume.
Just ordered this for my husband, I’ll probably wear a skull half mask and robes. Love Halloween!
@callow I love this!!

@duodec aww… Buzzkill.
My cousin is a costume designer for many of thr theatres in this town, so she is making mine. I am so excited to see the finished product !!!

Yes, bought the base t shirt dress in process of adding the things to make it work as a costume

@moondrake It is here in SoCal too.
I tend not to buy from them, though. The distance is one factor, but also because they’re a for-profit operation.

A Trump mask and roll or two of paper towels.
Here I am! Mac the wolf is my ‘fursona’ (GASP), and he doubles as my Halloween costume every year.
@PooltoyWolf I guess this site just really doesn’t like my images. Second time in a row they’ve uploaded rotated wrong -shrug-
@PooltoyWolf I thought your suit would be an inflatable.
@RiotDemon My character is a pooltoy wolf, but unfortunately physics prevent that from working right as a suit without looking creepy lol. So, I pose with inflatables instead!
@PooltoyWolf ?
@PooltoyWolf hmm, this isn’t creepy…
<.<
@mfladd LOL is that Wilfred??
@PooltoyWolf Yup. No judgements
@RiotDemon Yeahhhh the latex ones are definitely a bit…bedroom-y haha. Mac is a vinyl inflatable anyway
@RiotDemon (latex wolf) You never let me down in the end.
@mfladd

@brhfl
@gumtreertmug I know, I’m failing the Sunday night games crowd to whom I already revealed this plan…
@brhfl
By being specific in the forum, you also disappointed people who don’t participate in the Sunday night games.
@brhfl it’s ok, I haven’t made any progress on slerberus either.
@djslack
Dare I ask?
@gumtreertmug same thing, but with a sloth (and pants)
