Did you see the merch that went out with the special showings at theaters? The Enterprise popcorn “bucket” is a great piece, but it’s better made for holding tortillas than popcorn.
My wife and daughter are big Star Trek nerds. A local theater had a showing of Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home so we went last night. Kiddo is a freshman in college and was home for the weekend. It was a good family outing
@capnjb that was one of the most fun of the “original” series of Star Trek movies. Lots of comedy moments. Save yourself some agony and skip V, which was considered the worst of the movies and no surprise directed by William Shatner. He should stick to (over)acting.
@Cerridwyn My question are you a Trekker or Trekkie! there is a Huge difference! I remember the letter writing thing… I did NOT do it… I now sign online petitions… I am not a Writer,
@mycya4me the letter writing campaign was the first time I ever heard the name BJo trimble. But definitely not the last. I am a Trekkie I have always been a trekkie. And have felt that people wanting to disassociate themselves with that and call themselves trekkers was lame, no offence
@Cerridwyn The way I look at it as a Trekker… I have a life outside of Trek, If anything I am SFier…
I do cons I have an older TNG blue Jumpsuit (I would have to loose a Lot of weigh to get back in it!
I do have a Jacket from the Orville.
60-70+% of my Video collection is SciFi.
I have been going to Cons since I guess the 70’s.
there is NO way to separate who I am from SciF. I even go to Ren Faires, I even even belonged to the SCA, But cash flow put a stop to that!
Everyone know a am a Geeky Nerd about 90% of what all is SciFi… although
I DON’T like Horror I will NOT watch it! To scare myself all I have to do is watch the News!
@mycya4me Back in the day, there were only trekkies. We came in all shapes and sizes. Some wrote fanfic, some wrote slash, some wrote letters to NBC, some did none of this. But in our hearts, we all believed the dream, that what Gene created would be someday.
While few of us are not so starry eyed today, we can still hope. We did SCA (in fact, it was BJo who introduced me to the SCA), renfaires, other cons. Only 2 costumes that I ever wore that were trek related were a mirror universe one and a medical officer tunic. I actually hand embroidered the insignia, for the SS Hope, a medical ship (remember in TOS ever ship used it’s own insignia). We did however, build bridge sets and go to see Jimmy when he did a talk at one of the local colleges. We also went to Rocky Horror on a late night Friday, and to the Chinese Theatre for the Star Wars premier (I remember Bjo telling a group of us that she went in mid 1979 to see a pre-premier of this new movie. It terrified her so much she could hardly walk down a darkish street. It was also the first movie my daughter ever went to see (Alien if anyone wonders))
I have always been the geeky nerd who would rather read a book than play outside. I’ve gotten rid of more books than most people ever own.
@Cerridwyn@mycya4me I can’t get enough of the books. I’ve always been an avid reader since I was very young. I was anti ereaders until recently when I was gifted one by the Englishman. I was running out of storage space for the physical copies. I have to say I still prefer a physical book but I can turn and burn books on the ereader with delightful I’m about to finish a 1000 page book I started a few days ago.
@Cerridwyn@sillyheathen Yes I prefer physical books, BUT sadly I am a slow reader. Yes I LOVE reading. Have a Huge library of Books, AudioBooks & videos (VCR, DVD & Blu Ray) I also I am Computer Hardware Tech. At home yes I have few WinTel/ AMD. 1 Linux. But mostly Apple… the Hardware/ security (yes Linux better)
@Cerridwyn I do believe we are close to the same age.
Since I am on the east coast I have been east coast cons. Like Shore Leave, MarsCon, RavenCon, former SciCon & the Creation Cons.
I have meet Frank Kelly Freas, he lived in the Va Beach, Va area. But I don’t have a $$$ so that is the reason to the East coast. I have started Volunteering to get reduced Membership.
Also Arne Star. Yes I was a member of a “StarFleet” chapter, for a lot time. Sadly no kids!
@mycya4me we probably are. About the same age. My first call was called equicon. It was in 1973 and I was not yet old enough to love. There were I believe seven of us, all girls, in a single hotel room, they used to actually make single ropes it was like one double bed. A bunch of us on the floor people in the bed and won’t even slept in the tub. Those were the days. I don’t know if I let Kelly when he did the Star Trek art and it was first display here. I’ve met Larry Niven many times and yes he is still around and wasn’t la con. I’ve met Bob silverberg who is also still around. And of course lots of people who are no longer with us anymore.
@Cerridwyn Yep I remember also crashing in a room with 6-7 other guys. two got the beds. Me well I got under the table with my sleeping bag & pillow (so I would not be stepped on in the middle of the nite.) Never seen anyone trying to sleep in the Tub. Yep the Old days when cons were small, But SciCon had some good friends, Ones that told others about this small con in Va Beach, so people that might go to the Big Cons & avoid the smaller ones. would come. Then in a Room party for a Mock World Con bid on Mars… is really where MarsCon was born. I was there! Now MarsCon is back at that hotel. BTW MarsCon is 30+ years old now. Now I need a Bed. the floor is too hard.
Yes many of the stars we knew back then Past beyond the Veil.
This was the Time of shows like: Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea, Time Tunnel, Land of the Giants & Lost in Space (the original).
@Cerridwyn Check out some of the songs of Mikey Mason & sign up for his mailing list he give at least once a month a free concert, live stream. I believe on twitch there are others that did a lot of Filk songs! but are no more!
@mycya4me
i never met Shatner
Got to be a guard with Nimoy. He was promoting a one man show or something like that so attended a convention when D C Fontana asked him. fan con, back before big pro cons were a thing
@Cerridwyn Yep, back before big pro cons were a thing is when I meet Scotty. Maybe it was a Creation con.
They now have on the East Coast a con called “GalaxyCon” I went to th& seats e 1st on in my city. I quickly discovered it was ALL about $$$. Big $$$ to get in, Tons of Guest/ Stars (some even wrestlers) To see them up close you had to pay $$, Photo with them $$$, Autograph on a Pic the programs $$$.
Of course they were on stage & the seats behind the 1st 5-10 were free. I have NOT been back.
But I did get to meet “Odo” & her drew me a Bucket (he said on twitter- “if you see me at con ask me to draw you a bucket.” Since I was the 1st He took a Pic of me Holding the drawing & I got it cheap. He passed away soon after that!
@Cerridwyn Plus I pretty much still to Fan Run Cons in my area. (600- 1200 people) They are better, You know most of the people, & most of the time when the Guest are not on stage talking about stuff. They will mingle with us the fans. They love the Fans. there are a few others I wish I could go to… but it is a cash flow issue - Fixed income! That is the reason I volunteer at lot of them… Highly discount or free membership.
@Cerridwyn count your blessings you didn’t meet the Shat. He might have mellowed out by now, but pre-2020 you were likely to be near a very drunk, very unfiltered, and very unflattering Bill.
I’ve always been a massive sci-fi nerd. And I may have been a little too excited when I saw this because cooking and nerding out! I can’t even bring myself to look at the pricing because I would be murderized by the Englishman if I bought these. A girl can dare to dream I suppose.
@sillyheathen How cool is that casserole dish! But people already think I’m somewhat weird. (So, shouldn’t disappoint them? But it costs a bunch. Probably zero chance it will show up in an IRK, even broken.)
Did you see the merch that went out with the special showings at theaters? The Enterprise popcorn “bucket” is a great piece, but it’s better made for holding tortillas than popcorn.

Live long and prosper!
Yes, I watched TOS on a B &W TV at first. It as a treat to see it in color!
Yes I am a Trekker, NOT a Trekkie!
@mycya4me I have been a tricky since the 1960s. Was even one of those who wrote letters to NBC back in the day for about the Third season.
@Cerridwyn My question are you a Trekker or Trekkie! there is a Huge difference! I remember the letter writing thing… I did NOT do it… I now sign online petitions… I am not a Writer,

@Cerridwyn Yes I remember that… How about this one…
@Cerridwyn A more current group was Coyote Run. They broke up a few years ago… But their music is really good
@Cerridwyn Here is one I guess you could Relate too.
@mycya4me
@Cerridwyn Check out some of the songs of Mikey Mason & sign up for his mailing list he give at least once a month a free concert, live stream. I believe on twitch there are others that did a lot of Filk songs! but are no more!

live long and make bananas foster
@sillyheathen
you are right. you do not want to look
apparently, you can get just the lids if you have the right other peice already
@sillyheathen How cool is that casserole dish! But people already think I’m somewhat weird. (So, shouldn’t disappoint them? But it costs a bunch. Probably zero chance it will show up in an IRK, even broken.)
@Cerridwyn if I get the knob and put it on my red le creuset Dutch oven, do I have to burn every dish that goes into it?
@phendrick weird is a superpower in our household.

@sillyheathen nah. Just because it has red skin doesn’t mean it’s wearing a red shirt
@Cerridwyn @sillyheathen
; )
No you don’t have to burn it. Just tell rhe onboard computer to cook it properly.
—-
Funny how redshirt means one thing is sports
and quite another in fiction esp SF
@sillyheathen My mind is boggled! Le Creuset?! I would never ever have expected them to do something like this!
I thought it was on May 4th
@kittykat9180
That’s Star Wars Day! May the Force (4). Be with you!
@jkawaguchi @kittykat9180 That is disrespectful KittyKat
This is how May 4th goes down when I’m coaching on game day

Be good
edit - This is my favorite daddy/daughter pic. Still can’t believe she is in college now. Meh, can you please sell a slower calendar?!??!

@jkawaguchi
See, I thought it was in the 4th. I tend to hear about it every year.
This is all I can think of
@tinamarie1974 That’s the first time I’ve seen that video. The song is still a classic. The Firm was an all-male band too.
@pakopako it gets stuck in my head from time to time. And I cannot remember where I first heard it? MTV, Nickelodeon???
