Goat Day 14: Happy Pi(e) Day!
4Mmmm.... Pie....
It's a weekend edition, so there are always short. I just saw my alma mater, the Dayton Flyers, advance to the Atlantic-10 Final with a 56-52 win over Rhode Island. Hooray.
Speaking of March Madness, UAlbany, a local NCAA team here in Upstate NY, did something amazing today...
That's Peter Hooley. He had to take a leave of absence in January to Australia to take care of his mom who took a turn for the worse suffering colon cancer. She died earlier this year, and he rejoins the team and puts them into the NCAA Tournament with that buzzer beater. Just an amazing shot and story.
ODDS & ENDS
So today was an extra special Pi day, in that at 9:26 in the morning and some odd seconds, it'd be like an amazing length for Pi digits. You know what I was doing at that time? Sleeping. I win.
TODAY'S DEAL
LED bulbs are amazing. I bought 6 of them here last night. I suggest picking some up. They are really great and save a ton of energy. LED bulbs, driving a hybrid, I'm like an honorary hippie.
TODAY'S QUESTION

Cake.
apple pie
Either black raspberry or cran-peach.
Two hours and no one has made a crude pie joke.
So I won't start now . . .
I always look for my favorite - home-made coconut creme, but unless the establishment specializes in pie, they're harder and harder to find made from scratch.
I also adore a warm rhubarb pie with sugar and vanilla ice cream (childhood memories of grandma's) and boysenberry. Those two, I usually have to make myself - they're difficult to find and when you do find them, they're usually poorly executed.
@Pavlov I too would say my favorite is rhubarb, or possibly strawberry rhubarb. Fortunately a local high end grocery chain makes a delicious strawberry rhubarb. Not quite as good as homemade, but good nonetheless.
@Pavlov you have great tastes in pie. Pie is my favorite dessert by far, and nothing beats it when done well.
@JonT Thank you. You do also, as evidenced below. Too bad Emporium doesn't ship the coconut creme refrigerated or frozen . . . Oh well, ROAD TRIP. That looks like some mighty fine pie.
Cheesecake.
@Thumperchick I think I saw an episode of Good Eats where Alton Brown explained cheesecake actually is a pie. He also made it look fairly easy to make, but I've never tried it.
Punkin'
I like 2 kinds of pie Hot and Cold
Pie is my favorite dessert by far. Ever since I was old enough to make the decision I haven't had a birthday cake, I always have a birthday pie. Coconut cream is my all-time favorite, the one that Emporium Pies makes is amazing. I'll always have a soft spot for pumpkin pie, so it ranks second even though you can't always have it year-round. I'd say fruit pies come in at third -- apple, blueberry/mixed berry, strawberry rhubarb are all fantastic.
@JonT Costco makes a great pumpkin pie.
Shepherd pie
Apple
this is for Goat
How this thread got this far without Dean Winchester and his true love of pie is beyond me.
