For those too lazy to click on the link to a page just noted for taking too long to load…
Nirvana - Something in the way (The Batman soundtrack)
Geez, the giphy in the banner header is pretty grim!
@Kyeh
yeah, gotta love those video games… NOT!
@Extramedium I assume you changed the banner!? Thanks - much better!
@Kyeh I do what I can.

Ok, I feel like I need to step in here and remind everyone that the point is to show a direct connection to the previous. It’s about making a clear connection to the song or artist (singer/band/musician), and bonus points if you really made the connection by knowing your own contribution. We can all google obscure links that are 2 or even 3 times removed, but knowing a band/song/album/artist or whatever that connects to the previous post is much preferred to something random. Specifically, let’s avoid youtube fame or parody’s where it’s an “unknown - unknown” just to get something to click or leave a connection that you only made because of how far removed it is.
Honestly, I blame myself for letting the connection of 'Til Tuesday - Voices Carry with Manfred Mann - Blinded By The Light get by in the very first game post. Sure Aimee Mann is the singer for 'Til Tuesday but if you said that in the car on a road trip you’d vetoed for the lack of a clear connection in the title or either song/artist.
Show off how much music you legitimately know by keeping this thing going using only what comes to mind right off the bat. IF you feel like your connection is the best choice but might be really unclear to others, just post the song as your post to secure your spot then use a first-level reply to point out what you consider a clear connection. I doubt anyone is going to start a fight over the choices but some folks () might need help.
Getting back to it by following Donnavan’s Nirvana will be :
Bush - Everything Zen
See, not even the same words used but a clear connection.
Also, I’d like to say that I think it’s just great that you guys are enjoying this and sticking with it. I throw stuff at you randomly in hopes of finding things engaging for us all (mostly because I’ve come to enjoy just spending time with you all) and it’s super nice when it works out. So, thank you. Really.
@ExtraMedium
Thanks for clarifying the ground rules a bit. This really has been a lot of fun
/youtube Ray Stevens Everything is Beautiful
/youtube Beautiful Day—U2
The Police - De do do do, de da da da
(From the album Zenyatta Mondata, since we have to turn off our brains and spell out the connection in crayons at a third-grade level of intellectual capacity)
@mike808 Well, you could start a new game thread, for those who share your advanced and superior capabilities.
@Kyeh @mike808 That would actually be a really fun, but different game. Start with a boring song post and then see if you can find a valid but extremely obscure connection and have others try to sleuth out what the connection actually is.
Also, this post is 2 behind because you spent too long typing about crayons and my 3rd-grade education. I’ll have you know I dropped out in 11th grade, thank you!
@Kyeh @mike808 I also added another line to this post but I’ll quote it here.
@ExtraMedium @Kyeh
I’m not going to presume anyone “needs help”. The burden is on them to ask for a hint or use the whisper feature to do so.
Just because you think everyone is a priori as dumb as a box of rocks or wants a boring game doesn’t mean I have to.
@mike808 Ok, help me out. How did you get from “The Birthday Party with Lydia Lunch - Drunk on the Pope’s Blood” to “Nirvana - Something in the Way”?
@ExtraMedium @mike808
These threads have been based on the premise of a driving game. What I remember from my childhood is that most driving games are used to occupy the time not to demonstrate intellectual capabilities.
@ExtraMedium
“Drinking blood” => Dracula => Batman
The song is from the new Batman movie.
@mike808 Ok, let’s try this again. You’re in a car with like-minded friends and no internet. One of them challenges you to find another song that clearly connects to “The Birthday Party with Lydia Lunch - Drunk on the Pope’s Blood” That’s the whole challenge. Make a clear connection so the next person can do the same.
The challenge is NOT for the person who started your turn to have to figure out the connection. The connection should be clear as day, and the challenge is following it up with your own clear connection.
No one would ever connect Nirvana to a vampire in this car. I doubt anyone would connect batman to a vampire. I’m not saying it’s not clever, I’m just saying that’s not the game we’re all playing. I understand if it’s gotten boring for you…it’s a driving game, that’s what they do. But if you don’t like the game we’re playing, please don’t ruin it for others who are enjoying just connecting songs.
@ExtraMedium How about you don’t ruin it for me? If you expect the same of me, that’s only reasonable, yes?
And the connection between Dracula and bats is not some obscure lore beyond an 11th grade education. Neither is the clear images of “bats” in “batman” in the video.
I guess we need to do away with crayons and go right for fingerpaints. I am so inspired by the “lowest common denominator” of the shallow end of the gene pool. Be your … not so best.
@mike808
Damn… I missed my guess at the link(s)
TBP (band)
Nick Cave (front man)
Bat Cave
Batman
Nirvana etc.
But I guess I over thought it…
@ExtraMedium @mike808
His game, his rules.
Start another game - mike808’s Forum Turbocharged Driving Game or something!
The B-52’s - Rock Lobster
This follows U2 (military aircraft) since The Police - De do do do, de da da da was a delayed follow up to Everything Zen
Fred Schneider & The Superions - Glitter Gulch
Right Said Fred - I’m Too Sexy
Frankie Goes to Hollywood - Relax
@mike808 Searched everything I could think of and I’m still missing the connection.
@ExtraMedium It’s right in the video.
It was an 80s thing.
“Said Fred” => “Frankie Say”
“I’m to sexy for this shirt” => It’s literally a shirt.
Fred sings a song sbout a sexy shirt, and Frankie wears a shirt and sings a song about sex.
Frankie Vallie & the Four Seasons - Walk Like a Man
/youtube Johnny cash I walk the line
Foo Fighters. Walk.
The Bangles - Walk Like an Egyptian
/youtube Walk on By
Dionne Warwick - Don’t Make Me Over

/youtube suicide dream baby dream
/youtube Doris day dream a little dream
/youtube John Sebastian Daydream
/youtube cockney rebel Sebastian
/youtube Billy Idol Rebel Yell
Billy Joel - The Ballad of Billy the Kid
I initially thought about posting Kelly Clarkson who was famously on American Idol, but that’s getting in the weeds since American Idol isn’t an artist/song and so the connection is null.
/youtube Steely Dan Kid Charlemagne
MGMT - Kids
@SpecialK
/youtube Kid Rock All Summer Long
@SpecialK
whoops… should have been a fresh post, not a reply…
The Who - The Kids Are Alright
/youtube Free All right now
/youtube Joni Mitchell Both Sides Now
I actually like Judy Collins’ version better, but it’s Joni’s song.
/youtube algebra suicide he’s famous now
/youtube David Bowie Fame
/youtube David Crosby Immigration Man
/youtube amon duul ii emigrant song
Led Zeppelin - Immigrant Song
Because the song title “Emigrant Song” is similar to “Immigrant Song”.
Get it? Or was that too much of a stretch to change one letter?
@mike808
No, got that right away, but pretty sure that is NOT Led Zepplin in the video
OK so you changed it from James Brown…
Blur - Song 2
Gorillaz - Humility
Damon Albarn is the lead singer of both Blur and Gorillaz.
@ExtraMedium
I actually loved that, especially Jack Black - but George Benson?! That was a surprise!
Okay, then …
George Benson & Earl Klugh - Brazilian Stomp
@ExtraMedium
So much for titles, artist, or album. Cameos in the video are OK? No howls of “start your own game, @Kyeh”?
Driver rating: ☆☆☆☆
@Kyeh @mike808 I thought we’d made it clear that if you don’t feel like the post is a valid connection you can veto and offer your own or ask them to retry, but you’d need to do that before anyone replies otherwise we’d just be restarting at the top over and over.
@ExtraMedium @mike808
Yeah, I thought I was reaching a bit, but I figured ExM would let me know if it was too much of a stretch; and he had just posted his based on something not immediately obvious, i.e. the lead singer for both groups.
And … MIBYMTIS?
@Kyeh @mike808 I’d have vetoed this one if I saw it before chienfou replied, but it was too late at that point. Let’s stick with the idea that you can’t see the video in the car. I’ve only been using Youtube for linking to let people enjoy the song with the video. I’m fine with us shifting to SoundCloud links that that would reduce confusion and frustration, though I figure we can probably keep the videos and be mature about it.
@ExtraMedium @mike808
Okay - but then maybe you cheated a bit using Blur and Gorillaz??
@ExtraMedium @Kyeh
Does Mehdown have shortcuts to soundcloud?
@Kyeh I don’t know…I’d say the same singer is a pretty direct connection, but I did clarify in the comment in case anyone wasn’t aware of who sang for the groups. Not as easy to connect as Nirvana and Foo Fighters without a hint, but I’d say being the same person makes it a stronger connection.
It only popped in my head when I saw the Blur post specifically because I learned that info for the first time earlier this week.
@mike808 We can test it.
Floater - The Sad Ballad of Danny Boy
@mike808 I like it! That said, sometimes when you hit the share button it’ll only share a 30-second clip of the track, so that’s something to be aware of (not that it affects the game).
@ExtraMedium I’d never heard of either group, so it was pretty unguessable for me, but definitely a connection. Nirvana and Foo Fighters, yeah - much easier.
/youtube Frank Sinatra Girl From Ipamema
Mos - Tank!
Because the video has only girls in it. Like how George Benson does a cameo in the prior song earlier in this thread.
@mike808 Vetoed for no direct connection to the song. See? It works.
@ExtraMedium The next song still follows with the “girl” theme. Nice retconning with George Benson above.
The White Stripes - Fell In Love With A Girl
Follows Frank Sinatra - Girl From Ipamema
Nirvana - About A Girl
/youtube Cindy Lauper Girls Just Wanna Have Fun
Iggy & the Stooges - No Fun
Fun. - Some Nights
Interesting note: Fun. has the period in their name due to an issue with a Swedish death metal band by the same name.

Artist name and song title combo for the win.
