Fireworks!
13I have a friend who throws a party every 4th of July and puts on a world class firework display that he spends several thousands of dollars on. I bring my cameras and fly my drone through the madness… taunting him to knock me out of the sky. This year I set up a goPro right by the launch site and it was well placed. This was an all-day edit, and I was wearing a cowboy hat, so you’ll have to forgive my choice in music. It was well over an hour long and I live in the DC area. This is a better show than the one on the National Mall. I haven’t even looked at the drone footage yet. That’s for tomorrow
Hope everyone had a great 4th

Good job!
I see no SCUDs made it through.
@phendrick Second that! I hate it when SCUDs get through.
Wow, what a show!
Seeing fireworks from the same perspective you’d watch a meteor shower is pretty interesting too. I bet the drone footage is equally impressive.
Please post the drone footage
@misobrilliant I will try to today. I spent about three hours editing it yesterday and then the software crashed, and my last save was corrupt. So… back to square one today. It gives me a bit of the grumbles, but I’ll get it done
@misobrilliant Finally compiled the drone footage. I started off flying around the fringe or way too high. But halfway through I said screw and just flew into the middle of the maelstrom. And for the record, it’s hard to fly in the dark
@capnjb Friggn EPIC !! Great music too.
Awesome job! Ive always wanted to see the drone POV of a fireworks show. Completely thrilling! Thanks for sharing!
DIPLOMAT! RAT-A-TAT! FAT CAT! AWESOME!
@misobrilliant Yeah, the last third I was pretty much like, ‘I could use a new drone’
edit - I did take a few direct hits… DJI builds a solid bird

It got a little dicey around 3:50 and I think I eventually decided to retreat.
It is very difficult to fly at night
Nice job on both of them!!! Thanks for posting these.
Another vantage point that is interesting is when you are above the fireworks. Once, years ago, I was flying over Salt Lake City and passed above several sets of fireworks I watched out the window (luckily I was on the “right” side of the plane for that). The pilot circled around the biggest one before heading back east again. I had so wished I had a camera with a good zoom (this was before much in the way of cell phones) so that I could have gotten some good shots of those (or a video).
Thank you so much for doing these and sharing. Excellent video and editing!

My sister and niece are pretty much housebound so all they got was the random books from folks in the neighborhood shooting off illegal fireworks.
Your videos were better than anything available to go watch in their California town!
