@ooglek In addition to whatever clicky button signal differences, Apple’s inline mic requires higher voltages, I have read (and that’s consistent with my earbuds’ mic not working on non-iPhones).
@InnocuousFarmer Wicked good info mate! Thanks! I got two for the kids… hopefully these will last longer than the crappy plastic 3-pack for roughly the same price. We will be SWIMMING in headphones…
@lehigh Ah, damnit apple, swapping ground and mic. I’m sure there is an engineer who will stand 100% (and is probably well-reasoned) the switch, such as “the reversed design reduces interference and static and allows a smaller-gauge wire to be used with no loss in signal quality” but failed to point out “this is non-standard and will basically piss anyone using anything non-Apple with our headphones” and Tim Cook and Steve Jobs were like “Who TF cares? Tell them to buy all Apple or suck it!”
@lehigh@ooglek I’ve read a lot of places that the difference between Apple and others is CTIA vs OMTP, but I don’t believe that is correct–I think it’s only the signals and voltages that are different. I get away just fine with plugging recent Apple earbuds into everything, just the mic doesn’t work (can’t test the buttons). And, I didn’t have success plugging Apple earbuds into an Xbox controller with an adapter that purported to swap those wires.
I stayed up almost 24 hours for the Mehrathon and the items i wanted sold out in 15 seconds or less with lets say under 10 available missed all the fuk-o bags of crap so not one item, and some of the items were priced at 75% off and beautiful i just didn’t want to spend on presents when i just lost my job due to corona. SO I wasn’t quick on the trigger like i am normally am or maybe i have everything i want in life but a job Losing 800 people a day here in NY for the last 2 weeks but they say its better …Also don’t know why i have to use capcha when i was trying to buy an item when i’m signed in as a member.Really dumb. aND A NOT SO HARD FIX , BUT TY MEH FOR WORKING YOUR TAILS OFF MUCH APPRECIATED FROM ME TOO TEAM MEH !!!
@mellowirishgent I’m really sorry about your job. I pray you are able to return to normalcy soon. I was laid off last April 19 and just finally landed a job at the beginning of March. We weren’t shut down but are being given a 15 day furlough. Thankfully they are breaking it up throughout the year which eases the pain.
Why not. Spending so much time plugged in these days, and the wired BT ones get old after a while, heavier on one side as they are. Having to charge them, annoying.
One for me, one for the honey. Orange and blue, i miss baseball.
/giphy ancient-absorbing-parsley
@cinoclav Yeah, those are the ones I use. And I go to sleep with them in, so the ergonomic fit is important. Though I’m considering these. I could really use the inline volume control.
@geekahedron It looks to me like there was a big run of counterfeits. Just have to make sure you get the actual Panasonic product. There are still way more 5 star reviews recently than 1 and a lot of those 1’s are for stupid reasons.
last set of wired headphones were eaten by a ferret (!!) so I figure that I should replace them… you never know when a ferret will strike next.
/giphy beneficial-immortal-ninja
I waited. I waffled. I waited some more. Sometimes I fall asleep with earbuds plugged into my Roku remote, when I do the outside of my ears gets sore. Maybe these will be better.
/giphy logical-flaky-taste
Mine were in the mailbox when I checked before going in to shower for work. Will try to remember to open the box and check them out in the next couple of days… otherwise, I won’t see them again for months!
FWIW they seem to have come in nicely packaged if you were looking to use them as a gift. Feel substantial in the box.
@chienfou Finally unboxed them last night, plugged them in and … NOTHING.
But then I realized I had them plugged into a computer headphone jack, so not really the correct plug configuration and my phone was across the house so … nah… maybe later…
The buds did fit in my ears well though and each side is amazingly tiny so if they sound good they will be great under my hearing protectors when I mow.
@chienfou OK I finally plugged these into my phone to try them.
Sound pretty decent, like the fit, and the controls work well. Only listened to some music from Amazon on a Samsung S7 (didn’t make a call with them as I don’t use my phone much so can’t say anything about call quality yet) but the range and loudness were fine. Overall I like them.
Received mine as well and while they’re well packaged and have a “not so entry level” look and feel, they do still have some deficiencies. Long story short, they’re way better than the free earbuds you’d get from the airlines, assuming you’re still flying, but don’t expect much more than entry level performance.
One good point is there are a lot of tips so finding a good fit should be possible for most people. They can also get quite loud and have pretty decent bass response, but the treble is way too emphasized to my ears. I have to keep the volume down to prevent some music from getting too shrill at moderate volumes. This can probably be mitigated somewhat if your audio app has equalization options.
The other issue I have with these is the physical noise transmission through the cable. The silicone coating seems to transfer a significant amount of the cable rubbing or bumping noises against clothing or other surfaces into the ears. While not an issue if you’re listening at loud volumes, it’s definitely distracting at low volumes or for classical type music. Luckily I bought these for throw in the computer bag for a wired backup solution rather than everyday use.
I tried the included “premium” foam tips and had a poor experience for a few days. I then swapped back to the original tips, and was floored by the difference. Fantastic purchase.
(also, try changing your equalizer to be a bit more bass-y. Results may surprise you)
@sammydog01 I only get 10%. I really had to think about these for twelve bucks. I waited twenty-two hours before I bought them. Fifteen thirty seems like too much of a commitment after having slept in them just once. My opinion may change in a week or so. Now a month from now future Nate may be kicking himself for not stocking up when he had the chance, or, he may be thinking about the three delicious Twix that he enjoyed with that three dollars and thirty cents…
@ashemo Can I buy them from you @ashemo ? My Order got canceled… so I think they sent all the Android ones to Apple orders and vice-versa. Until they realized the mistake and canceled orders.
I love them so far. They seem to be very high quality, good sound, and more options of ear bud tips than I’ve ever seen some with a set of ear buds. Wish I could order another pair or two.
I’m really bummed – my order just got canceled. These looked like really good headphones for the price.
Well handled, but still kind of disappointing. I kinda want to know what the “inventory issue” was… did someone add an extra 0 to the quantity on hand? When you handle so many products, haven’t you got inventory management down?
Hello, Meh here,
Unfortunately, we have some bad news. We had an inventory issue and had to cancel your order.
We have issued a refund for the order back to your card. You’ll see that show up within the next ten business days depending on how quickly your bank processes refunds.

@t0nyc0tt4m This is disturbing, and I’m not sure why
What’s the difference between the iPhone and Android models if they both have an 1/8" plug?
@ooglek I came here to ask the same thing. Bought the Androids, but not sure what the difference is
@m20thesailorman @ooglek Same question from me.
@ooglek Thank goodness I’m not the only one who wondered.
@ooglek Probably how the volume buttons send signals. Apple uses a proprietary format.
@ooglek In most cases, the difference is what signals are sent by the inline media control bump and if it is likely to work with one or the other.
@ooglek As the other folks said, it’s for inline controls. They’ll put out sound on either device.
@awilkey @ooglek Oh hey, is that why the inline controls on my stock iPhone headphones never seem to work on my Android work phone?! Well, TIL…
@ooglek I think the answer is in the graphic in here: https://www.polygon.com/2016/2/28/11129974/xbox-one-controller-apple-earpod-earbud-headphones-buzzing-noise-fix

@msayler WOW that was quick
@chienfou I’m pretty close to HQ
I got mine today and I couldn’t hear person on phone call well.
@Bigbearballs but it could very well be user error
@Bigbearballs Did you make sure you got the version suited to your phone type? (Apple vs Android)
@chienfou i did, i’m an android and i got an android
@Bigbearballs OK, cross that off the possible problems…

i have been waiting for long time for cheap decent low profile buds.
these seem smaller than anything i have, will be great to wear under the moto helmet
actually sound pretty good
@username
yeah, that’s my take as well. I am hoping they will come back again (maybe even cheaper??) as they would be good to have as backups for travelling.

I want another pair or two! Quite pleased with my Roku experience. Morningsave has the Bluetooth variety but that doesn’t suit my needs.
@Nate311
@sammydog01 But those are five bucks more…
@Nate311 You get 20% off with the fancy V next to your name.
@sammydog01 I only get 10%. I really had to think about these for twelve bucks. I waited twenty-two hours before I bought them. I mean. It’s only six bucks…I do like them…but it’s the principal of the thing…
@Nate311 Oops, my bad.
Two pairs arrived today. Both are for Apple devices. I ordered for Android.
@ashemo I ordered one of each and got two Android. I don’t use them with a phone so it doesn’t really matter.
@ashemo @sammydog01
I ordered apple and received android. Contacted customer service twice with no response.
@chefjess - I guess we should have connected sooner!
@ashemo Can I buy them from you @ashemo ? My Order got canceled… so I think they sent all the Android ones to Apple orders and vice-versa. Until they realized the mistake and canceled orders.
DM me what colors you got.
@ooglek - Thanks for the offer, but we’re going to keep them. The only issue is the volume buttons don’t work. Not a huge deal-breaker.
I have used the headphones twice and one of the ears already don’t work. Very disappointed in this purchase.
I love them so far. They seem to be very high quality, good sound, and more options of ear bud tips than I’ve ever seen some with a set of ear buds. Wish I could order another pair or two.
@jc1357
Only Android left.
@sammydog01 That’s what I would want.
@ooglek Morningsave still has android ones if you don’t need to use the microphone.
@ooglek @sammydog01
how did you know it was an IOS set that was ordered?
@chienfou They usually carry leftovers to Morningsave and Sidedeal and they’re both out of iphone so I guessed that’s the one that was cancelled.
(Or I could be wrong.)
@sammydog01
ooohhh… good one!
@sammydog01 Nah you are correct, I ordered the IOS ones.
These are really nice and small so perfect under my hearing protectors on the mower. Sound pretty decent as well…
