@heartny there should be ONE or more within arm’s reach everywhere in your home… you don’t need to know where they all are, just that you reach out your arm and one or more is to hand. And start flailing and grabbing.
(Somehow I had never heard of LEP flashlights before. And now, after an extremely brief research session, I find myself desperately wanting to try one out and/or own one.)
I guess give it 5-10 years and we’ll see them here on Meh?
@xobzoo It’s a really cool technology IMO, and even the name (laser excited phosphor) sounds cool. Once the budget allows for it, I’m gonna try to get a Lumintop Thor Mini. Reviews seem good. $100 is still steep for a flashlight by my standards, but boy would it be neat!
@Yombleflobber You’re in luck, these lanterns are also dark compatible! Simply press the power button to change to dark mode or permanently convert by removing the battery holder.
@mycya4me@PooltoyWolf
I actually have one of those out in the driveway to go to the “donate” pile. Were not electric; you put a small candle in my version.
To clarify, the IKEA-like candle is in the driveway, not the cats. Though there are 2 neighborhood cats that show up randomly.
Ironically, the first 2 cats match the neighborhood cats. I named them greycat and orangecat.
@werehatrack Great, now I have to go research the the whole “Lantern” mythos or whatever it’s called…
I never read or watched any Lantern things growing up, and only briefly saw any of the other media that includes Green Lantern. So mostly I’ve absorbed it by cultural osmosis.
With that said, I’m aware of the existence of the other colors, but I don’t remember what each of them are powered (or limited) by.
Fortunately Wikipedia has a reasonable overview, so I don’t have to spend too long on this.
| ⃞ color | emotion |
|----|--------|---------------|
| red | rage |
| orange | greed/avarice |
| yellow | fear |
| green | willpower |
| blue | hope |
| indigo | compassion |
| violet | love |
| ️ black | death |
| ️ white | life |
(plus UV, gold, gray…)
TIL:not all the Lantern corps-escorpsscorps are good/positive…
In any case, blue/hope sounds like a good option, except that “Blue power rings are fueled by hope; they give their users the most power, but they must be near an active Green power ring to tap into their full potential.”
I originally misunderstood that “full potential” bit; reading further, it says they’re equivalent to Green Lanterns when on their own. (Wow, it looks like a Green and Blue Lanterns really ought to team up and travel in pairs!)
Okay, I’m sold on the Blue Lantern choice. At least, based on the small amount I’ve read on Wikipedia today. Conceptually the compassion and love (indigo and violet) would/should appeal to me, but their descriptions didn’t draw me in.
(In other news, only Green and Yellow rings existed before 2000, which helps explain why I didn’t absorb more knowledge about the other colors.)
For some reason my Meh monthly payments failed and they just cancelled my subscription without warning. For that reason, I don’t have enough lanterns. I’m ok with it.
Yes, I think I have enough lanterns, but I don’t know where they all are.

No. I still have space in my house.
@yakkoTDI Yeah, I had to buy an extra house.
@pmarin A light house?
@pmarin @yakkoTDI Heavy, man. Whoa.
Not a lantern, but I find myself wanting one of those new LEP flashlights. Very intriguing tech.
@PooltoyWolf TIL. Thank you.

I need a dark lantern. Preferably a few. Like ten.

KuoH
@kuoh Yes, but can I power it with the souls of lost children?
@Yombleflobber @Yombleflobber Check out Luigi’s Dark-Light in the Luigi’s Mansion games!
In fact, a battery-powered, flashlight-shaped version of yesterday’s product would be pretty spot-on…
And also a lanthorn, so I can complete my Thulos cosplay from The Death of Ilalotha
Still have the Halo lights I ordered from Meh in 2016.
@JT954 I do, too!
@JT954
Those were good.
/showme a lot of Cats with LED lantern
@mycya4me I think the bot used some pics of IKEA lanterns for this one…

@mycya4me
I didn’t know you could ‘have enough’ lanterns!
/giphy enough!

@phendrick Why!
I’d still like to get a Green Lantern. Or at least the ring (and probably the training to use it myself).
@xobzoo I find that I’d most want the Blue Lantern ring and abilities. You do you.

Crap. I tried to do one last edit to make the table just a slight bit better… and ruined it. (Markdown tables are so fiddly and sensitive.)
Fortunately it doesn’t matter that much.
But here’s the fixed one anyway, because I can’t just let things go.

@Fuzzalini that would be terrible!
Don’t know if this clip will work.
Couldn’t get the clip but in the original Repo Man (not the TV show or the movie Repo Men) :
“Just for that you’re not in the gang anymore”
@pmarin I love that movie.
Plate of Shrimp.
I found plenty under a bushel.
