Bought one of these several years ago, it’s been great if I need to make something quick and easy for dinner. I will say though that the lid is a little flimsy, it developed a crack pretty early on, and the tab on the ventilation filter screen broke off recently, so the filter can fall out easily now
@psantora It’s rough to clean tbh, tends to build up gunk that doesn’t want to come off easy. I usually have to set aside a decent chunk of time to be thorough with it.
@psantora@tardis Just being honest. It says something that I still use it regularly even years later and am quite happy with it, but the convenience on some days comes at a cost on another
@awk That’s what KFC uses. Outback uses them for baby back ribs. A local deli that my daughter manages uses one for ribs and split chickens. They use a deep fryer for Red’s chicken. When it warms up, they have a guy that uses a big ass smoker behind the store for ribs, chicken, brisket, etc.
@Kyeh@sixsmith@Kyeh@sixsmith Indistinguishable from the common State Fair brand of corndogs, whose dog is so bereft of flavor that its absence might be an improvement. (Not that the cornbread shell is any good either…)
375F is nowhere near hot enough to properly fry most things. Better to do it on a stove. Propane burners work great too. Just be careful because you have an ignition source right there.
@tweezak lol - wut? 375 is plenty hot enough to fry anything.
The problem with these things is thermal mass - they have none. The moment you add a single chicken wing the temp drops 50 degrees - that’s why these things are useless…
No pics inside and description says non-stick. Only raw stainless for me, have to pass this time. It would’ve been a nice upgrade to have a basket. Nice pairing with the sidedeal though
Order cancelled… Bought this after seeing decent reviews, cancelled after reading some that claimed it was Teflon coated and some users saw some flake off…
Teflon Flakes Off!
Review by Tom T in the United States on January 15, 2021
“The teflon is flaking off badly after a month & a half. I bought Cuisinart thinking that the quality would be better, so I paid a little more. Luckily, Amazon is refunding me, but I advise anyone else not to buy this.
The teflon was peeling off all on the inside. I never did anything but gently wipe it, so it’s not user error. It’s been doing it since almost the first time I used it, but for a while I thought there was just something stuck to the surface. I looked a little closer & could see that it’s the coating disappearing. It seems like poor design to have a metal basket touching teflon anyway.”

hmm…(mostly) very intelligent smart asses, with a broad knowledge base, and a quick witted sense of humor. Not afraid to be strongly opinionated and also willing to help others with answers to questions.
What I want is a countertop deep fryer that uses a standard cafeteria line steam table insert as its oil bucket, so that when it gets too effing gross, I can chuck it and put a new one in.
@werehatrack Now that is a great idea! Interchangeable standard components, easily obtained? Blasphemy! Then there’s no repeat buyers every year and no reason for consumers to throw the whole thing in the landfill because “recycling” basically doesn’t exist for stuff like this. Gotta maximize profits!
I got one of these and have made a bunch of donuts & beignets and I gotta say… it definitely does not suck.
It’s compact and you really can’t cook a whole lot in there but it heats up decently fast (8 mins?). Donuts were done in about 3 mins per pair. Reasonable easy to clean once you get the routine down. Worth $30 honestly

@captstack how is it to clean?
@psantora It’s rough to clean tbh, tends to build up gunk that doesn’t want to come off easy. I usually have to set aside a decent chunk of time to be thorough with it.
@captstack @psantora You’re really selling it for us

Doesnt get hot enough to do much of anything.
@KSchweitz does it get hot enough to fry spotted dick?
@KSchweitz did you try a little dirty talk?
@chiefbigbong @KSchweitz Only if you have bangers & mash too.
A compact deep fryer? Would that make it a shallow fryer?
@awk If it’s compacted, does that make it a deep fryer/ pressure cooker?
(This sounds like a terrible idea, unless you are an arsonist.)
@brainmist Well there is such a thing as a pressure fryer, which definitely sounds like a terrible idea, but apparently makes good fried chicken.
@awk @brainmist AKA “broasted” chicken.

What would you say are the type of people that comment in here? I’m trying to describe this community to a friend at work.
@rollingupbynow Living people and a drunken bot.

@tru335 @yakkoTDI That is DEFINITELY a murder clown
@Pufferfishy @tru335 @yakkoTDI aren’t they all?
@mediocrebot Uhm, where’s the banana?
@awk yeah….that thing definitely doesn’t look like any banana I’ve seen.
And I don’t want to think about why it’s making him sad…

@pmarin Like this one, except with the oil bucket in a standardized size that’s easily obteined.
