Charity Events... Like meh-rathons and such
5To start I'm about as good at doing a 5K as Simon Pegg in run, Fatboy, run. But I am doing a gaming Meh-rathon, extra life. Which got me thinking a) Does anyone else do it? a1)mmm steak a2) If enough do it, would a mediocre team be worth to start up as this is non-geographic dependant? b) what do other Mehricans do for charity events (if any.)

I tried to do a 24 hr endurance thing. 10 hrs in 40 degree rain was enough abject misery and I quit
@Pamtha 24 hour gaming endurance in the rain?
@Pamtha I think I read that incorrectly the first time... Physical endurance thing I take it?
@sohmageek Yep! The top finishers made 131 & 133 miles of running. Impressive, wasn't it??
@Pamtha Very impressive... I think I'd make 3 maybe 5... I used to do a lot of walking, Now I tend to not.
what to you play that does extra life?
@Cerridwyn Extra life is a 24 hour gaming marathon. It's for Children's Miracle network. Originally it was video games only, but people do board games and Card games also. Im back and forth, I'd love to go down to my local game store to play Magic for the Extra Life event they do. I'l make the time up that I drive down there and back at the end of it.
@Cerridwyn I re-read it... What Games I'm thinking of playing... Magic the Gathering (physical cards or digital,) Diablo 3, other misc PS3/Steam games that I've gotten backed up on.... I may even crack out the SNES... :) Suggestions? Someone suggested to give the donors a pick on games.
@sohmageek I know that 5PG goes extra life. They make Dawn of the Dragon and Legacy of a Thousand Suns for mobile and various browser platforms (Kongregate, Armor, etc.)
I'm open to playing most any drinking game for charity - just point me in the direction of the host establishment. If my killing brain cells can help someone out - hey, I'm all for it. I'm going to do it anyway, something good might as well come from it.
@Pavlov That could be interesting... I don't know of any charity that does that... I know there is a beer 5K up here, Not sure who gets the proceeds however.
@sohmageek I'm certain that liability issues might get in the way - but it sounds like fun to me. If someone puts it together and it is for a good cause, count me in(toxicated).
@Pavlov @sohmageek there are definitely charity pub crawls, I know @thegreathambino just participated in one recently.
@JonT pubcrawl you say? Id be all about that but a charity magic gathering......uh no thanks
@msujp It's not all Magic the Gathering. :) I just enjoy that game. There are a lot of Video games I wouldn't mind playing though in my backlog... :) I have to figure out a way to stream them if I wanted to...
@Pavlov Drinking for charity... you can't go wrong! I just did the Dallas Crawl For Cancer, which was a blast. They still have dates in other cities nationwide this year, check it out! http://www.crawlforcancer.org/cities.php
Last year some of us formed a team and did this.

@Cerridwyn So, now that I'm not on mobile I can make a better list.
Multi-player options I may do:
Star Trek Online
Lord of the Rings online
Star Wars The Old Republic
Diablo 3
Path Of Exile
Torchlight/Torchlight 2
I can't think of any other Multiplayer games that I may be playing unless you guys can come up with some. I wouldn't mind playing a multiplayer Tetris, but the facebook one has gotten to the point where I can only play for 30-40 mins, then have to wait hours and it spams... so I think I blocked it.
Let me know if anyone is interested in playing along, you don't have to participate in extra life to join my game(s.)
Most are ostensibly fund raising events so I donate money to charities I support rather than making charity events all about me like some of my attention whore coworkers.
@AlohaSnackbar good deal! I have the co-workers that do that too. In a way I feel like that coworker for extra life. I have the hardest time fundraising ask feel most people if they want to donate do it already. I feel a bit guilty asking friends and family.
Well more so friends.
