"BOC DAY"

Yesterday morning right at the stroke of midnight, my phone lit up with the alarm "BOC DAY". It took me a moment to realize that it was the birthday of Woot and then another sad moment to realize that Amazon hadn't been honoring that event for years. I should really delete that reminder.

It got me thinking though: Is the launch date of Meh just days before Woot's 10th birthday pure coincidence, or is there an entirely mundane thing linking them?

Bags of crap have become just that. None with big items any more. Refurb shitty itens like calendars from the previous year and juke toys colored in chinese lead paint. Meh.

I still have the woot app, got a notice that they were giving away some BOC's on the app so I actually got one. They also threw in free shipping. So $3 for a BOC might actually be worth it. But probably not, sadly.

The coolest things I've ever gotten in a BOC were an inflatable Queen Size Mattress with built in pump, Bluetooth stereo headset and a decent iPhone earphone. All have been post-Amazon.

I like the random nature of it all still. It's always more than my 8 bucks worth, so I don't mind.

I checked my purchase history with Woot and see I won 11 BOCs on March 22, 2012. I don't recall the occasion but I do remember that day I also won 2 additional BOCs, one with my kid's account and one with my husbands. The one my husband got had a new HP tablet, the one that runs webOS.

I actually really liked the event. It wasn't perfect and sometimes felt like it was trying too hard to be "internet culture-y". And the final challenge sucked and even seemed to bore/annoy the onscreen employees. But overall it was the most fun thing Woot's done in years and I stuck around the whole afternoon: hilarity, BOCs, decent deals, ohhh myyy!

It has really gotten harder and harder to get a BOC these days so I appreciate their efforts. This year is the first time I've got one post-amazon. But I do miss the smaller, cooler feel of the old woot. Maybe meh will be that, but considering the name I'm not super hopeful 😉

I must say that Friday was fun. Got a BOC and had a good time in the Forums. My enthusiasm has been on the decline for Woot as a whole, though. As far as BOC quality, they have gotten more predictable, with a handful of 'standard' items and one unique item for most of the bags, but I have gotten a Roku 3 recently, so some good stuff is still thrown in!
