@ConAndLibrarian I have two brand new (but actually older) Alpaca blankets. Thick, soft, drapes well, woven, twin size. If you are interested in a deal let me know.
@ConAndLibrarian Good luck. With everything out there - fleece, t-shirts, getting thinner and thinner eventually we will need 10 blankets on our bed to = one older blanket, already we need 2 t-shirts and then they barely last. Don’t even get me started on the shrinkage of 1/2 gallons of ice cream…
Large fire safe, smart light sockets and plugs. Something fun or goofy like slime. I have a reputation as the weird aunt to uphold.
I am eyeing the paperwhite kindle. I haven’t decided if I need the latest or a older one. Yes, I know they have been on sale already. I am just indecisive and since it is for me it can wait. I was thinking oasis but I think the paperwhite suits me better.
@blaineg@sammydog01 The offset on the Oasis does not appeal to me. My priorities are backlit, nice size/light weight, storage space then battery life. The water resistance is good but I have gotten in the habit of using a ziploc on the rare occasion I need protection. Now if we get the hottub moved and set up that might change things.
@blaineg@speediedelivery Some of the reviewers said the Oasis was uncomfortable to hold. But the new Paperwhite is waterproof too and has audible. No more ziploc bags in the tub for me!
@blaineg@sammydog01 I forgot the new paperwhite had those features. I was looking at the last generation one that was on sale. Decision made. I want the newest paperwhite. Now don’t confuse me with details or worse show me an Oasis.
Meh… nothing really strikes me this year. I wouldn’t mind a PS4 Pro and PSVR. But first… $600? For toys? Uh, nah. Second, I’d fuss with it for a couple months, then it would be collecting dust like the Xbox One.
@turtle_2014 True but we have all of the holiday sets. They keep adding crap like the fire engine to get the piece count and price up which kind of pisses me off. But it’s now a tradition. Last year I motorized the train and it’s still out where I can play with it.
@lseeber@shahnm Oh yeah… meh doesn’t ship to Antartica. Well try northern Minnesota then. You can be warm inside and can keep your batteries on the back porch.
I haven’t looked at any of the sale ads for any store yet.
Maybe something from Lowe’s or Home Depot? Goodwill is also doing a $1 sale. Otherwise I’ll probably spend the day working on the house or biking off the added weight from Thanksgiving.
2 months ago I bought a Genesis G80 Ultimate AWD so I don’t want anything else for Black Friday. I still say “I love this car” every time I get in it. My old car was a 1990 Dodge Dynasty, so this was a step up.
@Kyser_Soze My sister bought the same thing. Black also. Nice wheels. Now she’s got me wanting one. Although, honestly, I don’t know if she has the 80 or 90. Nice, whichever it is.
@Kyser_Soze Congrats on holding on to a car for 28 years. I had a 1990 grad caravan that gave up the ghost in 2015. I then got a 2005 Honda Element (would have preferred another minivan but that was too much money - bank wouldn’t give me a loan for anything older than 10 years. It just has a couple hundred miles before it rolls over to 200,000 miles.
I’ve been promising my mom I will buy her a new phone and put her on my Fi plan, but I still don’t know what kind of phone to get her. Part of me thinks I should just get the Pixel 3 through Project Fi, because right now if you buy 2 you get a service credit of $799, which makes them essentially half price (if you go for the cheapest option and ignore taxes/fees) and then give my sister my old phone (and put her on Fi as well), and that offer’s only through Thursday (but may show up again, I don’t know). But another part is like, get the cheapest Prime phone on amazon on Black Friday. And she is not being helpful in the decision making at all.
@chuckf1 Damn it, I was just about ready to buy my mom the cheapest phone and nothing for me, but you just had to go and tell me the Pixel is wonderful! Now I have to start all over again. What to do, what to do…
@mossygreen Did you do anything about a phone yet? Project Fi has some new prices. I almost choked on my iced tea when I saw the price for my Moto G6. Yep, leave it to me to cause a price drop AFTER my purchase.
@Barney You made a sacrifice so others may reap the benefit. But no, no decisions yet. The Moto G6 got top budget phone marks at Gizmodo, but they recommended spending more if you have it (but that was at $250). Have to decide soon, her phone battery is getting ridiculous (I think the phone must know we’re planning on replacing it and is just like FUCK IT, I’M NOT HOLDING A CHARGE FOR YOU TRAITORS).
We are looking at an 88 weighted-key keyboard for one of the kiddos. The other I am looking at copic markers and a bunch of sketch books for. I also plan on getting the artsy one a $100 gift card to the local arts & crafts store since it makes her happy to talk to the owner and buy things there.
@tnhillbillygal You might want to sign up for Musicians’ Friend “Stupid Deal of the Day” emails (or just check the site every day). They frequently have good deals on 88-key weighted keyboards (among other things). Amazon has also had BF and/or lightning deals on these keyboards.
@shahnm Well, I was browsing on their site and it said “call for more deals” so I decided to give it a try. The keyboard lady actually talked me out of the p45 and into the Williams Legato III home package. She said it was what she learned to play on and that it should see my daughter through a few years of playing and that she probably won’t need to replace it until she is an advanced player. Normally I would have thanked her for her input and completed the transaction online but I felt bad she was working on Thanksgiving and I was glad she has spent so much time on the phone with me so I placed the order over the phone in the hopes it might help her numbers if they do such record keeping. She did give me expedited shipping for free and there was no tax so that was nice.
@tnhillbillygal Keep an eye out at Michaels tonight/tomorrow for coupons–you might be able to get a large set of the Copics for a fraction of the price. They also have a buy one get one free on Strathmore drawing pads.
@tnhillbillygal Congrats! Musicians’ Friend is awesome. I have bought keyboards, guitars, vinyl, and countless accessories and sundry music stuff from them for years. Decades, actually. They are very price competitive, and their sales folk tend to be actual musicians who know what they are talking about, value customer service, and at times go the extra mile to make the customer happy. It’s like if Chik Fil A ran a music store…
@lseeber That is an acceptable answer, as long as you store the battery-containing remote in the refrigerator when not in use, as all sane people intuitively know to do.
@msklzannie tell him to look at something, anything, else. My parents bought a new Equinox and just around 100K already had engine issue and sold it for a similar Honda SUV/crossover…much happier
@tightwad He probably won’t actually get one as he’s been thinking about it since this summer and never bothered to go to a dealership and test drive one yet. The 0% APR offer plus using his rewards from his GM card are tempting him.
We don’t go to stores for BF any longer; the places we used to go now all open on Thanksgiving afternoon (or all day) instead of Friday. I don’t spend money at stores that steal Thanksgiving from their employees.
But online, yep. Ebay had a 15% off coupon so I bought an ammeter and some other parts for the Challenger, and if one of the major Mopar vendors has good prices I hope to get new upholstery for the Challenger’s seats on Friday.
I did Black Friday once, years ago. Never again. I did score the cheap crap TV I was after, and it was indeed cheap crap. For the time and aggravation it cost, staying home is a much better deal.
Well yesterday I bought at 1/2 price and also a 15% off coupon: kid jeans, shirts,18" doll and clothes, 2 RC monster trucks, and kid books. Prices were likely as good as BF and unlike BF stuff was still in stock. My wad is blown though. Nothing for me. Not going anywhere near stores BF.
I had burnout from being at the computer all day yesterday looking for deals. I spent today doing Small town Saturday with my niece and picked up a few things at local shops and then proceeded to spend the rest of my Saturday learning how to play COD WWII on our PS4. I guess I should actually accomplish something productive tomorrow!
Tickets to our summer concert series will be discounted- $219 for at least 22 concerts. Of course you have to take what you get.
laptop. 8th gen i7, 16gb ram, 512+ gb ssd, ~7-8 hrs battery life (real world usage). touchscreen would be nice, but not a requirement.
A thick, woven blanket. Been looking for the perfect blanket for years.

@ConAndLibrarian I have two brand new (but actually older) Alpaca blankets. Thick, soft, drapes well, woven, twin size. If you are interested in a deal let me know.
@Kidsandliz Thank you so much for the offer! I am looking for something humongous, preferably king size. Thank you so much for thinking of me though!
1000 of my most desired audiobooks.
the trick to good shopping, is not going out on black friday, because you bought everything on sale in January
I will be cyber shopping around my work schedule.
Safe we were looking at went up a couple hundred last week and now is discounted back to the original price. Nice.
I am in the market for a king size electric blanket, and might spring for a streaming tv device if one yells buy me this weekend.
@speediedelivery I just got a refurb Oasis and I love it.
@blaineg @speediedelivery I was afraid if I got an Oasis I could never go back to a paperwhite.
@sammydog01 But if you did, why would you need to?
The larger screen is nice. Though I wish a Kindle DX sized screen would return.
@blaineg @sammydog01 The offset on the Oasis does not appeal to me. My priorities are backlit, nice size/light weight, storage space then battery life. The water resistance is good but I have gotten in the habit of using a ziploc on the rare occasion I need protection. Now if we get the hottub moved and set up that might change things.

Nothing.
@Barney Poor Lady must be in the doghouse.
@speediedelivery Actually, Lady is in the doghouse (sleeping). I already have her Christmas prezzie for her.
Fixing to get my first TIRK.
I would like a cheap “good” laptop, the new gopro7, and will be looking for a gaming monitor for family member.
a candy bar
Meh… nothing really strikes me this year. I wouldn’t mind a PS4 Pro and PSVR. But first… $600? For toys? Uh, nah. Second, I’d fuss with it for a couple months, then it would be collecting dust like the Xbox One.
Almost forgot- the Lego Winter village Fire Station.
/image Lego 10263
@sammydog01 I think the fire truck is kind of lame. I like the one from the Modular Fire Brigade set way better.
@turtle_2014 True but we have all of the holiday sets. They keep adding crap like the fire engine to get the piece count and price up which kind of pisses me off. But it’s now a tradition. Last year I motorized the train and it’s still out where I can play with it.
@sammydog01 Exactly. I like the fire station itself, but for that price, I’ll pass. I have the train, toy shop, and Santa’s workshop.
@turtle_2014 Did one of those come with the big tree? I love the big tree too.
All the things.
And batteries. Chilly, chilly batteries.
@shahnm May I suggest you move to Antartica. Then you could buy all the batteries you want and not worry about having a big enough fridge.
@Kidsandliz I want my batteries to be chilly. Not me. I want to be cozy and warm.
@Kidsandliz @shahnm Hence the batteries?
@Kidsandliz @lseeber Natch!
@lseeber @shahnm Oh yeah… meh doesn’t ship to Antartica. Well try northern Minnesota then. You can be warm inside and can keep your batteries on the back porch.
New apple laptop. Mine is biting the dust and older. A monitor for my old one (screen is going out).
@Kidsandliz Ditto. My 2006 MBP 17" video card is crapping the bed… and the batter lasts about half an hour.
Winning lottery ticket?
I just need a few men’s shirts, other than that I have finished my Christmas and December/Jan birthday shopping. Woo Hoo!!!
@tinamarie1974 Yes winning lottery ticket. That would be fun. Think of all the people we could surprise being a secret santa!
@Kidsandliz that would be a-meh-zing

@Kyser_Soze My impulse was “I haven’t seen one of those on the road in 25 years!”, only to catch myself that I was thinking of the Dodge Monaco, aka Eagle Premier.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eagle_Premier
Congrats on the Genesis!
@Kyser_Soze Congrats on holding on to a car for 28 years. I had a 1990 grad caravan that gave up the ghost in 2015. @mossygreen I just got 3 Nokia 6.1 phones for the family. Upgrading from an S5, a Blu R1, and an iPhone 5s.
$200 each and it has all the feels. Android 9 (pie), 5ghz/ac wifi, nfc. Sweet phone with flagship features without the flagship price.
I did have to pick up a bunch of usb-C-to-micro-usb adapters (with 56Ω pull up resistor). https://www.amazon.com/dp/B073VH55WF
@mossygreen I have a brand new space gray IPhone 8 Plus I’m selling for $625…
@mossygreen I got my Pixel 3 about a month ago. And you’d have to pry it out of my cold, dead fingers, for me to give it up.
@turtle_2014 I am 100% sure that will not work with Project Fi, but I appreciate the offer. And love gray.
@chuckf1 Damn it, I was just about ready to buy my mom the cheapest phone and nothing for me, but you just had to go and tell me the Pixel is wonderful! Now I have to start all over again. What to do, what to do…
@mossygreen The (sort of) buy one get one was also an introductory promotion on Project Fi, so it may come back around yet again. Who knows.
The Pixel 3XL is a nice phone, but like every other gadget I’ve bought, it hasn’t actually altered my life or my looks.
@mossygreen Did you do anything about a phone yet? Project Fi has some new prices. I almost choked on my iced tea when I saw the price for my Moto G6. Yep, leave it to me to cause a price drop AFTER my purchase.

@shahnm Thanks for the tips!
@shahnm Have you bought from Musicians’ Friend before? I am looking at that Yamaha P45 but am hoping it might go down a little more.
@shahnm Well, I was browsing on their site and it said “call for more deals” so I decided to give it a try. The keyboard lady actually talked me out of the p45 and into the Williams Legato III home package. @shahnm lol. Unlikely. Except for the tv remote.

@shahnm I’ll try to keep that in mind!
My brother is thinking about getting a new vehicle. He’s been looking at the Chevy Equinox.
@msklzannie tell him to look at something, anything, else. My parents bought a new Equinox and just around 100K already had engine issue and sold it for a similar Honda SUV/crossover…much happier

@narfcake I’d already read that article.
@narfcake Tom McParland is a great resource.
I am trying to decide whether to stay up for deals tonight or tomorrow night. What’s everyone else’s stay at home shopping plan?
@tnhillbillygal home
It’s what I need to NOT buy that is important
We don’t go to stores for BF any longer; the places we used to go now all open on Thanksgiving afternoon (or all day) instead of Friday. I don’t spend money at stores that steal Thanksgiving from their employees.

I think I did my BF shopping yesterday. A deal on a Roomba showed up on Amazon, and we’ve been Roomba-less for a while, so I grabbed it.
I’ve already spent my BF budget on blankets and vacuum cleaners and shower heads and hair brushes.

A winning lottery ticket. But since that is likely a waste of $2.00, I do want a new vacuum cleaner…found a nice one on that other daily deal site
