Best Little-Known Performer
4Who do you really like but nobody else seems to know about?
I recently learned about Ritchie Kotzen. Phenomenal guitarist as well as other instruments. Fantastic and prolific songwriter with a voice very close to Chris Cornell (RIP).
This is a great video of a concert he did in Tokyo.
There’s a great ballad called Remember at 1:11:00

I’m a big fan of Stan Rogers (Canadian folk singer also RIP)
Has a very unique voice (though his brother and son sound like him) and tells great stories in his songs. Beautiful imagery and well thought lyrics.
@chienfou “I was told we’d cruise the seas for American gold, we’d fire no guns, shed no tears!”
@chienfou Thanks. I will try to check him out.
@chienfou @ItalianScallion At one point, that one was cited as a “traditional” by some scholar, and Stan’s estate had to step up and correct them. It’s like The Greatest Devo Song They Never Did, so damn good at adhering to the style of its inspiration that it gets mistaken for OG canon.
“Lies” is a beautiful song. I hadn’t heard it before. Thanks, @chienfou!
@chienfou And a couple more videos of Stan’s songs…
@chienfou This isn’t all of Barrett’s Privateers, but the video is great!
A+ for Mr. Kotzen! Tremendous talent! Everything from blues, soul, rock, metal, guitar-god…Truly one of a kind, and criminally unknown from too many people.
@tohar1 You would think more would know him since he was in both Poison and Mr. Big (though briefly, I think). He seems to tour more internationally than in the states which is unfortunate for us. I would really like to go see him live.
@tweezak Don’t forget about The Winery Dogs! IMHO, the epitome of a “Power Trio”…features Billy Sheehan on bass & Mike Portnoy on drums, with Ritchie on vocals & guitar…Some stellar tunes!!
@tohar1 @tweezak
Had to check out Winery Dogs.
Reminds me of some of the 70s music I was into.
@phendrick @tohar1 That’s how I learned about Ritchie Kotzen. I heard one of their videos and was instantly struck by how much he sounded like Chris Cornell who was always a favorite of mine.
Here’s the video I’m talking about
@phendrick @tweezak Great Song!!
I think Rich Little is the Best-Known Little Performer since Little Richard or that imperial Little Anthony.
