I’ll kick it off with: Pensey’s has free $7.95 value Kind Pins with any purchase for everyone across the country because only Bill the Damn Hippie understands.
B&H Photo has TP-Link Kasa smart wifi outlet WITH energy monitoring, model HS110-KIT (two pack) for $30 and free shipping, plus no tax in most states. To see this discount, clip the “40% off coupon” on the B&H item page.
That’s $15 each for a smart plug with energy monitoring. Compatible with all the usual automation assistant suspects, plus IfTTT support. Alas, no HomeKit compatibility, so Siri has more time to focus on improving her knock-knock joke repertoire.
These are a bit larger in form than some others, but the power plug on the unit is designed in such a way that you won’t block an outlet if you plug this into the upper plug on a wall outlet.
Here’s a link to the manufacturer’s product page.
My post of this on SD was moved to the Front Page Deals, so if you’re considering this, don’t hesitate. They’re likely to sell out soon.
This deal died early Thursday evening.
Best Buy has some decent prices on Amazon devices today. An Echo is $70., Echo Dot (Gen 2) is $30, their Cloud Cam is $60.
Piling on…
Regretting your decision not to get an Amazon Echo Show on Prime Day? Or maybe you don’t have Prime and it was a Prime exclusive offer?
Best Buy is offering the Echo Show for $130 and free shipping. Or get two Echo Shows for $120 each.
Also available is the Echo Spot for $100 and free shipping. Or get two Echo Spots for $90 each.
Or get a Fire HD 8 for $50 and have the Show Mode (all the features of an Echo Show for only $50!)
Best Buy has reduced the clearance price on Sphero’s Ultimate Lightning McQueen interactive app enabled car. Now $75 and free shipping or in-store pickup.
Still too rich for me, but maybe this is low enough to get @sammydog01 to bite.
@ruouttaurmind Nope. Poor Sphero- everyone is having a fire sale on their stuff.
@ruouttaurmind it showed store pickup only with no locations within 250 miles this morning for me.
I’d get one for giggles when they get down to $50 if I could get my hands on it.
@djslack I’m at the same price point. $50 is my cap. And $30 for the little black R2.
@ruouttaurmind The little black R2 was a Best Buy exclusive so you may be out of luck. Although I see they still have them in stock.
Audible members with active subscriptions: Write a review today, get a $5 credit. Good for today only, August 6th.
@ruouttaurmind
Today’s is to like them on FB or something.
Go to audible home page to see the details.
@f00l Thanks for reminding me to check today.
“Tell us for your chance to win a free credit.” If it was a sure thing, maybe. But I’m not trying to break my moratorium of social media for a chance.
@ruouttaurmind
today’s FB requirement annoyed me. just nope.
Yesterday I saw the “write a review” offer early in the day. But I was super busy. And very tired from an exhausting weekend.
Worked. And then slept. Missed out.
Sunday they offered White Fang for free to members. I grabbed the book and meant to post a mention here. Not I didn’t get back to FW into after 2am.
You might call. See if they will still meet you have White Fang free. They might.
If you want to try that, call TODAY.
This isn’t a “deal” so much as a shopping tip.
Most of us are familiar with Amazon Warehouse Deals. For those who aren’t, it’s like Amazon’s outlet store. Like Nordstrom Rack for Amazon and it’s Marketplace sellers.
Primarily it’s the way Amazon moves merch which has been returned for all the various reasons people return stuff to Amazon, but which cannot be returned to general distribution. Open boxes, imperfs, missing parts, etc.
Returned items are evaluated, if deemed worthy of sale, the item is cleaned, closely inspected, fully tested, then listed for sale in the outlet, Amazon Warehouse. Listed items are condition graded as Acceptable, Good, Very Good, Like New. Many items include a brief note regarding condition issues such as “1/4 scratch on rear of speaker” or “original packaging is damaged” etc.
Why do you care? Because there are hundreds of thousands of items available in the Warehouse, priced often significantly lower than the identical “new” item.
Here’s an example: last Thursday I was shopping for a Kensington security cable lock kit for my laptop. The specific item I was shopping for is the Kensington ClickSafe Ultra kit. MSRP is $60, currently priced at $50 at Amazon. I checked the Warehouse and found they had one in “good” condition for $11.55. A 78% saving vs. the regular Amz price.
Condition description listed this item as “item will be shipped in alternate packaging”. This usually happens with clamshell type plastic packaging which must be cut open. When returned to Amazon, they repack in a plastic bag.
My order arrived today. As expected, the Kensington kit was as new, never used, but repackaged in non-retail plastic bag. So I saved myself about $40 simply for the few seconds it takes to check the Warehouse.
Oh ya, and many Warehouse items are Prime eligible as well.
So… spend a few extra seconds, maybe save yourself a bundle.
@ruouttaurmind thanks for the tip. I rarely shop on Amazon. Someone gave me a gift card so I’ll make sure I look before I purchase.
@ruouttaurmind so, uh, where is the warehouse listed? Is it where the new and used listings are?
@RiotDemon @ruouttaurmind
Yeah.
Although you could also use this link to bring Warehouse deals front and center.
@PlacidPenguin thanks!
@RiotDemon Yup, I concur with @PlacidPenguin. For me though, it’s most useful when I’m shopping for a specific item (brand and model) to view the Amazon listing and check the “new and used” link to see if there’s a savings opportunity for the specific item I need (like my lock kit).
If not, I can simply select the “new” filter and buy from my selected seller. Many times Marketplace sellers offer the identical item at a lower price, but are still Prime eligible. Plus, most Marketplace sellers don’t charge sales tax for another little bit of savings (9.6% in my state).
@PlacidPenguin @RiotDemon @ruouttaurmind I’ve saved hundreds on car parts buying from Amazon Warehouse versus regular or even Rockauto.
@ruouttaurmind There are also partial lots, where instead of 12 cases of diapers, they only have 10, because two cases got ruined in the warehouse. Those are wonderful deals for individual buyers.
@PlacidPenguin @RiotDemon @ruouttaurmind Bookmarked the link. Thanks!
@PlacidPenguin @RiotDemon @ruouttaurmind @sammydog01 Me too! Thanks for the link!
@ruouttaurmind
I love Amazon warehouse. I routinely check the “used” bin on almost everything. Esp physical books.
Mostly. They are pretty good. Not perfect.
They do miss some.
@f00l @ruouttaurmind forgot to ask. If the item is too damaged when you get it, is it a regular return policy?
@RiotDemon Absolutely. If it’s materially different than represented, the usual return policy applies.
Two weeks ago I bought a Maglite flashlight in “good” condition. Description stated “minor cosmetic damage to top of item not affecting functionality” (or something very similar). When the item arrived it was missing the on/off switch. Otherwise it was pristine. Not a scratch on it. I just did the usual return process, printed the free shipping label and received a full refund as soon as the tracking number was registered in the USPS database. Easy and done.
BTW, of the 7 or 8 Warehouse items I’ve purchased, that was the only item which arrived in less than near-perfect condition. My Essential PH-1 phone was listed as “like new” and I couldn’t distinguish from a truly new retail item, down to the packing materials and presentation.
@RiotDemon Yes. Or they might just refund you so they don’t have to deal with it again.
@ruouttaurmind @narfcake thanks guys. Was looking at a hose timer that said cosmetic damage… Just curious if it was so much that I couldn’t read the timer or something.
@narfcake @RiotDemon Twice I’ve received a ‘materially different item’ than what was listed. Twice they’ve refunded me without a return.
One time I received a ‘like new’ cooler that was filled with bottle caps.
One time I received a ‘minor cosmetic damage’ whiteboard with a baseball sized hole in it.
So, there’s that.
I still shop warehouse deals whenever possible.
@ruouttaurmind just wanted to say thank you SO much for this tip. i was always hesitant to buy anything from there, not knowing how it would turn out. my son’s bday is next week (he’ll be 11), and i decided to take a chance based on your recommendation.
i bought a (giant, didn’t know that til it came) nerf gun $12 under the regular price because of “damaged packaging.” it came, and i literally had to look it over twice to see what damage to the packaging they were talking about. i couldn’t believe the huge discount because of it!
so seriously, THANK YOU!!!
p.s., my son is going to be super happy.
@LemonTheCat Perfect! In my experience, kids don’t even notice damaged packaging, especially if the item contained therein is particularly compelling. I’m guessing, to an 11 yo, a Nerf gun is probably that compelling.
As I just mentioned to @narfcake, I love a bargain! Even when it’s someone else getting the bargain.
@ruouttaurmind I ordered two warehouse items with two other items. After the first box ships, they cancel one of the warehouse items saying they don’t have any more. I’m really bummed because regular price was $13 on sale for $8. The second warehouse item was supposed to arrive today. Then it was supposed to arrive tomorrow. Supposedly it’s going to arrive Friday.

I was at Best Buy helping my kid buy a thing and saw that Minion MIPs are still $20. I picked up a spare just in case. Yes, I have a problem. But I just found out if you have two they can have fart battles! So trying that this fall. Mine is running around the kitchen annoying the dog.

eBay one day only sale, beginning at (probably) 8AM PT, through 7PM PT, use the discount code PRONTO15 to save 15% on your purchase of $25 or more SITEWIDE.
Yes, this is for most items from all sellers. The usual exclusions apply (gift cards, gold, etc). Minimum purchase of $25, maximum discount of $100. ONE TIME USE discount code, so make sure you’ve loaded all the stuff you want into your cart before you checkout. IIRC, it was @narfcake that discovered a limit to 10 items in checkout at one time?
@ruouttaurmind Yeah, checkout would spit back out “we split up your order for your convenience” or something like that when you have more than 10 sellers in the cart.
@ruouttaurmind
Better deal than the 8% eBay Bucks offer I had last week.
(Shame I’m losing those Bucks when I return the device anyways.)
@PlacidPenguin Mmm. I wound up with a negative eBay Bucks account the last time I returned an item. I used one of those 15% in Bucks offers, then returned the item, but eBay didn’t debit the Bucks. A few months later, after I spent the Bucks, they debited my account and I’ve been running a negative balance for a few months now.
@ruouttaurmind
If I have to, I’ll contact a particular eBay email address which I have, and they can deduct the Bucks for me.
Some sellers on evilBay are beginning to quietly increase their pricing in anticipation of the sale event. I’ve added items to my cart and made a note of what price the item was when added. If there’s an increase when I checkout in the morning, I’ll be deleting the item from my order. Even if the resultant price is still reasonable… I don’t care. I’m not buying from a predatory seller.
@ruouttaurmind
Re silent price increases when eBay does a coupon:
Report them to eBay if you catch them.
Screenshots can be useful.
@f00l Excellent suggestion. Taking a screenshot of the item listing at the time I add it to my cart is perfect.
This deal is live NOW until 10PM PT, NOT 7PM as I initially reported.
But don’t wait! Items tend to sell out quickly during the sales.
FINALLY got the two TV mounts I’ve been shopping for over the last several months. $22 ea. before the discount.
Also ordered a Honeywell Lyric Round thermostat to replace the old Honeywell t-stat which was damaged when my AC blew a few weeks ago. All the features I already had, plus geofencing and HomeKit support, mode indicator backlighting, and motion sensor.
On checkout page for 128GB OG Pixel.
Could get it for $84.99 after discount.
According to description, it SHOULD work, although the proximity sensor has issues during calls.
I honestly don’t care about that issue.
Decisions… Decisions…
Bought it.
At the worst, I can probably just resell it for a profit.

@medz free aint bad.
@medz I did it yesterday. Easy as pie. Also, the offer applies to other movie accounts as well, not just MS.
See this link for full deets.
@ruouttaurmind ah, I think Microsoft is new. I already had all others except itunes because f that apple crap.

32 Degrees is having a site wide sale up to 65% off.
https://www.32degrees.com/
I normally wouldn’t post this but I left my favorite pair of 32 degree mesh quick dry underwear in a hotel room the other day and was actually a little upset. That’s how much I love them.
Any man who hasn’t had this underwear next to his skin is missing something. The $20 3-pack they are offering is better than you can do at Marshalls (if you can find them on clearance). I bought two packs and the shipping was a fair $5.
http://www.32degrees.com/products/mens-3-pack-active-mesh-boxer-brief?variant=8244101546073
(damn, now you know what type of underwear I have - TMI, TMI!!!)
@mfladd how do these compare to Duluth Trading Company? Most biker/compression shorts type boxers tend to be too tight in the crotch for my comfort.
@mike808 I haven’t tried the Duluth so I can’t say. But these are light and stretchy. I don’t consider these to be tight at all compared to some of my other boxer/briefs. They are just incredibly comfortable.
@mfladd I want to hear more about you leaving your underwear in a hotel room.
@Barney @mfladd I was thinking there must be a story but I wasn’t sure about asking…
@Barney @mfladd @speediedelivery It’s all out there now.
@speediedelivery @therealjrn I don’t think @mfladd has his notifications turned on or else he never looks at them. We may never hear HIS version of what happened.
@Barney @mfladd @speediedelivery @therealjrn It’s up to us to describe his version, then. He must not be neglected!
@OldCatLady @speediedelivery @therealjrn
You know that hole in the roof of his car that @mfladd has been repairing, well I’m thinking that someone should check the area around it for buckshot. Just say’n…
@Barney @OldCatLady @speediedelivery @therealjrn
No story - at Busch Gardens - trying to get kids ready. I look down and see the underwear on the floor, and say to myself, “I can’t forget those” - pack up bathroom stuff, and… forget them
I always lose shit in hotels.
@mike808 Also just picked up a 3-pack of Spyder boxer/briefs at Marshalls for $13. Comfy, but a little tight, like you described. They are not bad, but the 32 degree ones are without equal of any others I’ve tried.
@mfladd Sure – we believe you. (You’re gonna need a better cover story in order to hold our attention.)
@mfladd The DTCs are light and comfy too. Plenty of room for my thick ass and thighs. And they dont ride up or cut off circulation to the nether regions. They’re also of a dry wicking material so no swamp butt either.
Check slick deals for sales.
@Barney @OldCatLady @speediedelivery @therealjrn @mike808
Good customer service. What I wanted was my blue underwear back. That box came, and someone had removed the blue underwear and replaced it with another gray. I called and told them - they apologized and sent out not just the blue underwear, but a whole nuther 3 pack. They also sent me a silver 32 degree grocery tote! Sweet.
@mfladd I think you got damn lucky.
AMEX card holders: get a new Fire HD 8 tablet with Alexa, 32GB, choice of color*, for $30 and free shipping when you apply offer code axpfiretab8 and pay with at least $1 in AMEX reward points.
*Yellow is currently unavailable
To take advantage of this offer you must link your AMEX rewards earning card to your Amazon account, then pay with at least $1 in rewards points. Previously linked AMEX cards ARE eligible. My AMEX has been linked for over 2 years, and I was able to use this offer.
@mfladd, your AMEX points should be available by now. This is a great price for a brand new Fire HD 8.
@ruouttaurmind How are the new fires for reading? I have an older one and don’t like the screen very much. I do like the older kindle screens. Great deal but I don’t have Amex.
@speediedelivery I just found out this offer is also available for select Citibank ThankYou Rewards cards as well as AMEX. If you have one of those, link that card, then click here to activate the offer.
As far as the Fire HD 8 display… I have no idea. This will be my first Fire tablet. Amazon claims the HD 8 display is first rate:
Fire HD 8 features a 1280 x 800 high-definition display with over a million pixels (189 ppi) and a bright, vivid picture. Enjoy movies and games in a crisp, clear HD resolution, with less glare and more brightness thanks to a stunning IPS (in-plane-switching) LCD display.
I currently use a iPad Pro 12.9. With it’s super high 2732-by-2048 resolution at 264 pixels per inch. I expect the Fire HD 8 won’t be nearly as sharp, but for $30? Yup.
I ordered it mostly for the Alexa capability and Echo Show mode for monitoring my video doorbell and security cameras when I’m at work.
@ruouttaurmind I have an iPad 3rd gen. I like the kindle app on it. The regular kindle screen I borrowed was easier on the eyes. I think I want the smaller size for reading and and carrying places. I don’t need anything else but I am likely getting something soon.
Although the AMEX/Citibank $30 discount offer is still available, the Amazon sale price of $60 expired at 9AM Friday morning, and the offer discount would be applied to the Fire HD 8 regular price of $90. Not a deal anymore.
However, it does make me realize how good the $30 price I paid yesterday really is.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@ruouttaurmind So tempting. How long is this deal good for? Figures my son would want yellow
@mfladd Ya missed it my friend. The $30 AMEX offer is still active, but now that the sale price on the tablet expired, it’s $60. Def not a deal.
And I agree with your son… I wanted yellow also.
Overstock (via evilBay) is offering the new Cricut Maker machine for $325 with free shipping (alas, they charge sales tax almost everywhere). Listed for $375 ($400 MSRP), apply discount code POPULAR on checkout for a $50 savings. Also, targeted accounts can earn 10% bonus eBay Bucks. Check the top banner on the eBay.com home page for the offer, or try to clicky this linky.
@ruouttaurmind Looks like overstock has their entire inventory online at ebay. It says “1,340,399 Results”.
@ruouttaurmind Same price as they have on the overstock website
https://www.overstock.com/Crafts-Sewing/Die-Cut-Machines/featured/19136/subcat.html?featuredproduct=17178241&featuredoption=28690953&kid=9553000357392&track=pspla&ci_src=17588969&ci_sku=23439543-000-000&cnc=US&cid=248953&type=pla&gclid=Cj0KCQjw77TbBRDtARIsAC4l83kEm_Up4EbHfz4SPyOU1mYbDwmNTiKS-gMhoqL0ZJC0pvPzZ4Uz9KgaAlRREALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds&dclid=CICsqs2V5NwCFcrEwAodIeoNdg
@Kidsandliz Yup, same price, but eBay is offering that $50 discount.
@ruouttaurmind I hold grudges! Won’t buy from overstock after that curio incident… still not sold on the maker, yes it would make quilting easier, but I have only ever finished 6 of them?
@mikibell Was that the Curio for like $30 thingy?
I’m with you. Once a company does me wrong it’s highly unlikely I’ll ever do business with them again.
@ruouttaurmind yup and if they had just cancelled the order, that would have been fine. But ship it to my front walkway and THEN recall it…bah!
@mikibell I remember that now. Boo! Shame you didn’t get to it first.
Plush Cthulhu at Walmart for four bucks with in-store pickup. That’s a total why the hell not price. And it’s adorable!
https://slickdeals.net/f/11927203-dark-green-cthulu-plush-for-4
@sammydog01 mine says $19.95. I guess it was your lucky day!
@sammydog01
Did you pick one up for me?
@sammydog01 i seriously considered buying one…
@RiotDemon I guess they ran out. I should have ordered an extra.
@sammydog01 I’m kinda sad over not getting this one.
@mfladd @RiotDemon
Diet Mountain Dew for scale. Jealous?
@mfladd @RiotDemon @sammydog01
Good thing I wasn’t tagged. I don’t drink diet soda.
Was looking at alternatives on eBay. I have a coupon.
This one looks tempting.
And since I didn’t buy a suspicious air fryer for $20 from eBay early this morning, I’m $20 richer.
Cause that’s how it works. Right?
*I have a gift card.
@RiotDemon @sammydog01 OMG! That thing is huge I am so fucking jealous
@mfladd @RiotDemon @sammydog01 Consolation prize? $5 at Best Buy, free ship with a (no cost to join) My Best Buy account: Pikachu 8 inch plush.
@RiotDemon @ruouttaurmind @sammydog01
Now $19.99. I cannot catch a plushie break
@PlacidPenguin @RiotDemon @sammydog01 @ruouttaurmind
I occasionally check the Cthulhu link just to see. They had one left for $6.81 cents. He is mine. Well, my son’s for xmas!
@mfladd @RiotDemon @ruouttaurmind @sammydog01
Woohoo!
@mfladd @RiotDemon @ruouttaurmind @sammydog01
Shame Brickseek only checks the nearest stores. I’m not about to start typing zip codes throughout the US in an attempt to find this plushie.
@PlacidPenguin @RiotDemon @ruouttaurmind @sammydog01 They are now back up to $19.99. It appears they may randomly put some up at a deal price. Just keep checking this link.

@mfladd @RiotDemon @ruouttaurmind @sammydog01
When I Google the SKU, it shows prices in Google search showing from a little less than $6 to $19.99.
I just don’t know which stores the low price can be found in.
@mfladd @PlacidPenguin @RiotDemon @ruouttaurmind You’re a winner! Today anyway.
@PlacidPenguin Walmart does the Amazon thing where they let random people sell stuff on their website. The cheap price was actual Walmart with free ship to store.
@sammydog01
It’s probably better if I don’t get it.
I don’t want a showdown between Cthulhu and my penguins.
@PlacidPenguin @RiotDemon @ruouttaurmind @sammydog01 Wait! There is a pink/purple one too?!
@mfladd It’s so cute! Toys-R-Us exclusive. Amazon has them. Expensive though.
@sammydog01 Zombie Cthulhu also…
@mfladd @sammydog01
Toys-R-Who?
I’m not familiar with many stores in Canada.
@mfladd @RiotDemon @ruouttaurmind @sammydog01
Good news: Refreshed the page, and there’s one available for $6.67
Bad news: It’s giving me issues when I try adding it to my cart.
Bad news: The store is set to San Bruno, California. The site isn’t letting me update the location.
@mfladd @RiotDemon @ruouttaurmind @sammydog01
Just placed an order for one for $6.96
Now to decide if I actually want to go pick it up, or let a week pass and then have the order cancelled.
@mfladd @RiotDemon @ruouttaurmind @sammydog01
I’m seeing the Cthulhu plushie for $6.67 again.
@mfladd @PlacidPenguin @RiotDemon @ruouttaurmind @sammydog01 $3.13

The Microsoft store: STAR WARS™ Battlefront™ II for Xbox One (One X enhanced) for $9. Currently $33 at Amz. XBLG subscribers only. Digital download. Probably can be purchased directly on your console using the Store or Gold app.
@ruouttaurmind I have either this one, or the first one, downloaded from ea access - but haven’t played it yet. Are these any fun to play?
@mfladd I don’t own either version, so I haven’t played. I don’t think II is available on EA Access yet.
This isn’t really my typical genre, so I’m on the fence about buying. I’ve seen it at Newegg for as little as $20, but this is definitely the lowest price yet. It’s available in RedBox, but for the rental cost, might as well buy.
@ruouttaurmind RedBox rental costs per night are absolutely crazy. Are you still playing PvsZ?
@mfladd I haven’t been able to play since I tried to cut my finger off a couple weeks ago. I tried once but holding the controller presents is uncomfortable proposition.
@ruouttaurmind Ugh…I forgot about that. Sorry, you’re currently gaming handicapped.
@ruouttaurmind
Need a sub?
@PlacidPenguin Nah, I think I’m nearly ready for action again. The wound is nearly closed up. Mostly it’s only the nerve damage presenting discomfort now.
@mfladd @ruouttaurmind quit your bitchin’ ( ) I met this young man who is a quadriplegic and who was so excited that he had just beaten Mario Galaxy on his switch. He and his buddies have modified controllers for the switch and PS2… the glee on his face was cool to see.
@mikibell Not bitchin’. Just trying to take care of myself so my injury will heal up as well as possible with few lingering effects.
@ruouttaurmind
Let me know if anyone finds an amazing deal on a Chromebook (approx. 13" screen) with good reviews. Besides my cracked screen (the green death is slowly creeping and I haven’t replaced it yet), now the charging port has failed. While I have ordered a new port I am thinking that it is time to invest in a new/refurb one. I will fix up my meh Toshiba for the kids later.
Alas, I am once again desktop bound
Damn you meh! I have repeatedly asked you for Chromebooks!
@mfladd
Educational back-to-school deals on these should be everywhere.
Slickdeals.net?
@f00l Found one in my price range, but while it is still active on the site, it isn’t at the store
@mfladd approximately what is a good deal?
@mikibell $150 - $170 The low end. I know it would have to be one of those great finds.
@mfladd Ok, I guess I could go down to 11.6 screen. But want 4 GB of RAM. 16GB is ok for storage.
@mfladd Ok, I found one and took a chance on a 3rd party, used, in very good condition, sale from amazon. 3rd party has a 99% satisfaction rating and since it is fulfilled by amazon is subject to amazons return policy. Plus, no sales tax. The chromebook has good reviews on the web and I am saving over 25% if everything works out. Normally I would just buy new, but I need to save my pennies right now.
Please cross your fingers with me.
@mfladd
I’ve done this and been happy. Hope you are.
@f00l It arrives tomorrow and I am nervous The only thing that gives me hope is the seller has over 9000 reviews with a 99% rating, which is pretty impressive in the world of 3rd party amazon sellers.
@f00l Wow…this thing wasn’t - used - very good, or even refurbed I don’t think. This was brand new in the box sealed with hp tape. There is not even a scuff on the rubber feet. Getting use to the smaller screen - and the resolution is no where close to the Toshiba 2, but for 130 bucks I am quite happy
@f00l @mfladd Score!
@f00l @sammydog01 Or so I thought. After using it more, I really don’t know if I can handle this screen resolution. And it flickers when you scroll. Damn. Way to fuck up a decent chromebook hp - go cheap with the screen.
It is probably going back.
@mfladd
@ruouttaurmind I had to go up in price for what I need. I was just so spoiled with my meh refurb Toshiba 2. But I bought the one below, I posted. And I get goodies like touchscreen, aluminum casing (on top), and usb-c charging. Plus, it’s huge at 15" - my old eyes need size (maybe too big).
Funny thing - when I was trying to load new credit cards onto GPay, it wouldn’t take my AMEX #. So I checked my account just to make sure. I happened to find that amazon had mischarged me for that prime day Alexa dot to the tune of $43 bucks. I got that refunded, and probably wouldn’t have caught it w/o the gpay thing. So I am counting that $43 as money going toward my new Acer
@mfladd Good catch. I used to be very diligent in checking all my accounts every day. This is a reminder to pick back up that task. Much easier to keep up if done daily compared to checking an entire month’s activity.
Glad you got a Chromebook you’re going to be comfortable using.
@ruouttaurmind I have also become lax in checking because of paperless statements. I will look more now. I will let you know about the chromebook when I receive it. I don’t want to get to excited after the fail that was the last one.

Want to bring back Sunday game night? Humble Bundle has the Jackbox Party Bundle for the next few days.
Target, via Google Express is offering an additional 15% off select “back to school” categories (mostly home goods like kitchen, bath and bedding) with discount code TGTHOME15 on checkout.
Fifteen percent? Big flip, right? Well, not entirely so. The 15% is an additional discount from the already reduced prices in these categories.
For example, in Bedding, Target.com features a Fieldcrest king size down pillow, regularly $70, currently on sale for $64.59. BUT… if you go to the Target store at Google Express, the identical pillow is on sale for $47.59 PLUS an additional 15% off for a discounted total of about $40. Nearly half off a well reviewed down pillow (100 reviews, 4.3 star avg). I don’t own this pillow, so I can’t vouch for it specifically… yet. I did order 2. If it turns out to be a great pillow I will order at least two, maybe four more.
This is one example. I found several items that were discounted 30% on Google Express, plus an additional 15% off the already discounted price.
Humble Bundle is offering Orwell for free until 1PM Eastern on Saturday.
Amazon Warehouse Deals is offering 20% off their already discounted price in several categories for a “limited time” (I haven’t been able to determine an exact end date, so don’t contemplate your purchase for long.)
Discount is taken off the listed price and will show up on checkout.
In a previous thread I discussed my own experience with Amazon Warehouse Deals (spoiler: it’s been very good).
Some categories include
@ruouttaurmind this would have made for a good deal on the essential ph-1, but the discount isn’t showing on it ($295 like new).
I also noticed they seem to have changed their name to just “Amazon Warehouse”.
@djslack There was one gray PH-1 for $260 earlier, “like new”. Someone must have grabbed it.
@djslack @ruouttaurmind
I’ve done very well getting hydro-flask and similar (rtic etc) stuff from the Amazon warehouse at the end of summer sale.
Perfect condition for everything.
Example deals:
Echo Show in “used - good” condition for $80 and free shipping. Choose black or white.
Echo Dot for $23
Galaxy S8+ factory unlocked used like new for $426
@ruouttaurmind I looked at the deals and realized I had saturated my Alexa experience. I am enjoying the Show I bought on Prime day, just wish I had bought a used one instead.
@sammydog01 I bought one of the Fire HD 8 tablets via the AMEX deal last week for $30. I wanted to fuss with the Show Mode to see what the Echo Show is all about. I’m less than impressed. For me, not even worth the $30. Turns out most of my IoT devices aren’t compatible with “fake” Echo devices. Even those made by Amazon. Baah.
@ruouttaurmind I use my Show in the kitchen. There are a few flash briefings with video- my favorite is the Tonight show monologue. I can also watch prime video when I cook or do dishes. Plus it shows a running countdown on the timer which isn’t really worth $130 but is nice nevertheless. So I’m happy with it. I expect they will expand the video offerings.
May I just say that thank you to everyone who posts on this thread. And there aren’t a lot of us. I love looking at this every month, and have found some great deals
@mfladd I’m always looking for new ways for you to spend your money.
@ruouttaurmind what money?
@mfladd @ruouttaurmind
Well if you both want, there’s a developer on the Play Store who is selling an app, which usually costs $0.99, for $10.99
On /r/googleplaydeals, somebody made a post when there was a discount from $10.99 to $0.99, and it was advertised as a sale.
Somebody called the dev out. I then took a screenshot from an app tracker, and wrote an email to the dev.
I guess what I’m saying is that if you like wasting money, this is an option.
@PlacidPenguin Oh, I don’t like wasting my own money, only @mfladd’s money.
@ruouttaurmind
Well you have an odd way of showing it.

This is amazon’s #1 bestseller. It is $24.99 with $5.00 clip coupon.
4.5 stars from over 28,000 customers.
Amazon is selling this themselves for $54.69.
@mfladd
Quite a few listings for them on eBay. I was thinking that maybe there are some attempts direct delivery from Amazon to eBay buyers going on.
@PlacidPenguin According to CCC, something is wonky with the Amazon price for this. But for $20 bucks and the great reviews, it’s a buy for me.
It seems CS is pushing these on ebay too, but for a couple of bucks more.
@mfladd
Contemplating it myself. I got rid of most of my Bluetooth speakers recently.
What’s CCC saying about the pricing?
@PlacidPenguin Just that for some reason Amazon rocketed there price up way beyond what it has a history of selling it for.
@mfladd
Hey, what happened to the graph?
@PlacidPenguin Ha! I thought it was kinda busy.
@mfladd @PlacidPenguin yup there are a lot of items on ebay that are just drop shipped using amazon prime
i saw an ebay listing that followed the stock and the price of the amazon item.
@communist @PlacidPenguin Just received my Oontz. It’s small, but puts out some impressive sound. The sound quality is very good. It was a great buy for $20.
At Best Buy get the Hot Wheels - Ai Street Racing Edition Set for $30 and free shipping or in-store pickup. Lowest price I can find outside Best Buy is $55 on Amazon.
Was it this one, or the Anki set @djslack grabbed a few months ago?
To add on to the savings, you can get a $25 Best Buy gift card through Raise for $23.52 using promo code ‘special’.
Or, for new accounts, you can get $10 off a $100+ order.
@ruouttaurmind I believe it was this one, it was definitely hot wheels. All I can report is it has a nice looking box, it’s for a gift.
You can get (an additional) 4% off gift cards from Raise.com by applying promo code ‘special’.

Crocs has their bistro clogs half price- these are the ones used by chefs. So soft. No vents though if you have sweaty feet. I love my Swedish Chef ones but should probably just wear them in the house.

@sammydog01 I bought sandals and Mary Janes, because winter is coming but it’s still August. I’m covered. Thanks!
@OldCatLady I almost bought sandals but realized that now I only wear clogs. Curse you, Crocs! Before you know it I’ll have to pull a new pair of seasonal light-up crocs out of my closet.
@OldCatLady @sammydog01 129 days. It is practically here.

Lots of smalls in their clearance items which aren’t available in stores near me, so I was able to place a $9 order and no shipping charge preserved the bargain.
@ruouttaurmind
I don’t want to create an account with them though.
@PlacidPenguin Lots of clearance smalls in their toys and collectibles categories though. Many priced under $5 and several under $3.

@PlacidPenguin Oh, please do.
My girlfriend is supposed to be coming over in the morning. She’s into smalls too.
No wait, that’s not what I meant.
@therealjrn
Limited time Amazon offer: Essential Phone PH-1 in Halo Gray for $280 and free shipping. This is brand new, not a Warehouse deal. Expect this to sell out quickly, so if interested, don’t wait!
@ruouttaurmind
Great, the tax made me cough.
@ruouttaurmind So this is what bothers me – I hear these phones are really great, but will they ever get any more updates?
@Barney
As I was discussing with @ruouttaurmind, Essential announced/released the update to Pie minutes after Google announced/released it to the Pixel devices.
This was on par with how the developer preview updates went. Shortly after Google announced updates, Essential announced their updates.
(Both of these things were better than other OEMs which had phones participating in the developer preview program for Pie.)
@PlacidPenguin @ruouttaurmind
I just don’t know about buying an orphan phone. However, I do know whatever my decision is on buying a smartphone, I’m going to screw it up.
@Barney With the recent Pie update, even if no other updates follow, my PH-1 should have a useful life of 3+ years. More if I eventually had to install an alternate ROM.
And let’s face it… The majority of sub-$300 phones never get even a single update.
@Barney @ruouttaurmind
There’s always custom software…
Without going into detail, the Ph-1 has a great community (I’m assuming, I didn’t actually look), based on certain software capability which it was updated to support, and which makes developing ROMs for it SIGNIFICANTLY easier.
@ruouttaurmind
Tell that to my $85 OG Pixel.
@Barney
The exceptional performance and specs place it firmly at a “flagship phone” level, but at a lower midrange price. Well worth the price I paid, orphan or not.
@ruouttaurmind
Gee, that makes me feel good.
@Barney @ruouttaurmind I got one on Prime Day, and agreed when it asked me whether I was ready for the update. I had to learn a new phone and Pie, all at once. Interesting. I’ve had to resort to RTFM once or twice, but it’s a very good phone. I had been using an Edge.
@OldCatLady Moving from a landline to a smartphone kinda scares me.
Edit: No, it really scares me.
@Barney @OldCatLady
On the bright side, even if used just for calls, it would (possibly) be cheaper to use a smartphone.
@Barney @OldCatLady Not everyone needs a smartphone. True story.
TBH, even I don’t really need a smartphone for my personal line. It certainly makes texting easier, but a dumb phone with a keyboard and camera would pretty much work acceptably for me. I only do occasional email on my personal phone. Seldom browse the web, never play games, don’t do social media… I would do just fine with my old Motorola QA30 slider from eons ago.
This purchase would qualify for Smile.Amazon, so…
@ruouttaurmind Funny you should post that picture, I’d love to have a phone with a keyboard. I’ve even looked at the new Blackberry Key2. Very pricey, but I think I like it.
As for owning a smartphone – I’ve had many people tell me that once I get one, I will end up using it more than I do my laptop. I just hope I don’t turn into one of those zombies that I see in restaurants who can’t seem to stop looking at their phone.
/image phone zombie
@Barney I am one of those people who also does not do social media on my phone. My smart phone comes in handy when I need it and I wouldn’t be w/o it. But my chromebook is still my go to. I like using a full keyboard and having a full screen for my old man eyes. Luckily, I have never turned into one of those restaurant people. My dtr is another story The kids of this generation are sadly fully immersed into these things.
@Barney
It’s possible. For me, not so much. I feel confined by the small screen and clumsy HI. Lots of folks take to it. I do not.
Until I bought my iPad I did all my personal stuff on an ancient Dell laptop. I chose to use a 12 year old laptop before using my Android phone. That’s how much I don’t love using smartphones. I use one extensively for work, but I don’t love it. Unfortunately it’s the most suitable tool for facilitating my work when I’m out in the world.
It’s the iPad which was a game changer for me. I haven’t used that old Dell in so long I’m not even sure where it is.
@ruouttaurmind @mfladd
I’m not into social media, but I am now noticing that many things now require apps, thus smartphones. For instance, I have a new router and I need a smartphone to be able to install it. -sigh-
Yep, I’m being dragged kicking and screaming into the smartphone era.
Of course it also doesn’t help that my landline provider is gouging me to death just for a basic line.
@Barney Oh, I still have a landline, with wireless phones, and a pushbutton string phone in reserve. When the power goes out, land phone lines still work. In hurricane country, we learn this early.
@OldCatLady meanwhile I’m about to cover up two of my phone line connections. I think the cable was cut to my house.
I’ve never lost phone service… Luckily.
/giphy knock on wood
@Barney @ruouttaurmind I use Ooma for $5 a month just so I have something like a landline. It serves the purpose of giving out my number to entities I don’t want to have my cell phone number.
And when you get your smart[hone you can get a purple otterbox case like I just found for $15. And how exactly is a plastic and rubber case refurbished anyway? It looks new.
@Barney @OldCatLady @ruouttaurmind My husband uses a basic phone, always has. He tells customers “don’t send me texts, send them to my email” because he knows how to do email.
And the screen on his phone is about as big as his thumbnail. He’s happy with it.
I have a lower end LG smartphone. I got one of those freebies when we switched to Cricket, my first smartphone, but the RAM was so low, I couldn’t load a full webpage. A year later I upgraded to the LG.
I get a whole 5gb of data a month. I’ve never broken a half gig. I did use it a couple of times for -koff- Moviepass -koff-…
We have a landline (our official FAX line), but earlier this year our provider switched from the analog service to digital and now I have a stupid modem for our landline. The electric goes out, the landline goes out. BOOOO! Our other lines are MagicJack lines (three of those).
I have plenty of string and cans if that happens.
@mfladd An Ooma. Another tech thingy to deal with. I just don’t do tech well. But I do like the idea of a purple otterbox case.
@lisaviolet @OldCatLady @ruouttaurmind So here I go dating myself. When I first got my landline, I was paying $10 a month for a basic line. Now it’s almost $60. It’s just not worth it anymore.
@mfladd Ya, I have a Google Voice number for the same reason. I can make calls via interwebs via my computer headset or smart device via their app. Best part, it’s free.
@Barney $60 for a basic landline? OUCH! Ya, even switching to a very basic mobile phone will save you 50%-65%. Assuming the cheapest phone you can buy ($15 at Walmart, etc.) you’d save back the price of the phone in one month!
@ruouttaurmind hmmmm…let me look into that one. thanks.
@mfladd @ruouttaurmind
I personally just use my Google Voice number for infrequent calls to Canadian numbers.
There used to be serious integration with Sprint, which I tried a few times over the years that it existed, but it ended earlier this year.
@Barney PS: You probably already know this, but most mobile phone service carriers can “port” the phone number from your landline to their cell service so you won’t have to give up your existing phone number.
@ruouttaurmind But I love my landline. It’s always there for me. I know what to do with it when I pick it up to answer a phone call. It just doesn’t ask much from me in knowing tech stuff.
It will be so strange not to have one.
@mfladd voice.google.com
@Barney @ruouttaurmind
Especially since you (hopefully) can’t misplace it.
@ruouttaurmind Don’t laugh, but the porting part scares me. I don’t know why.
@Barney This is the cell phone I got for Mom:
@Barney
Maybe because it’s a serious step in the transition from a way of life which you’re comfortable with, to that which you are not?
The unknown tends to scare people, which makes perfect sense.
@ruouttaurmind An old ladies phone…
@ruouttaurmind
That’s a GSM phone, so it would matter what carrier it would want to be used with.
Unless one gets a plan through Snapfon.
@PlacidPenguin
Mr. Penguin, that is the smartest thing you’ve ever said.
@PlacidPenguin She’s on AT&T. I also got her a AT&T WHP device since she’s not comfortable giving up her home phone. $20/mo and she lives in blissful ignorance that she’s actually using cellular service for a home phone.
@ruouttaurmind
Heh. That works.
@Barney
Well, it’s what makes her comfortable, and now she has a phone in her pocket when she’s running the fences on the ATV, driving into town, etc.
@Barney @ruouttaurmind
Don’t forget eyeing the turkeys.
@PlacidPenguin The WHP was a bit of a challenge because she lives in a cell hole. I had to install a signal booster and mast antenna on the roof to get reliable connections. And it only works for voice channel 3G. No data. No LTE.
@ruouttaurmind
As if she’d notice a difference if she’s using 3G for phone-only service.
@PlacidPenguin Well, AT&T has their HD voice technology (ClearVoice?) which I think relies on certain 3G or LTE channels. I think. I don’t know enough about their tech. But she’s limited to the old, flat voice signal. It’s a noticeable difference, but still quite useable.
@ruouttaurmind The closest gmail number is in DE! Well, I can get MD, but like 4 hrs away type MD. I know it doesn’t matter, but no one will recognize the number.
@mfladd I guess in this age of many area codes and so many people with cell only, I’ve become oblivious to out of area numbers. Probably half my friends have area codes from wherever they lived before.
I’ve had my GV number for many years, so mine is area code correct.
@mfladd @ruouttaurmind
With spam calls now using not just the same area code as you, but even sometimes the first 3 numbers (after the area code), numbers don’t mean much nowadays.
Just for fun, I’ve used Texas and Missouri phone numbers just to prove a different point to a couple of relatives.
@ruouttaurmind
It was briefly available for $224.
@PlacidPenguin @ruouttaurmind Fortunately I was paralyzed with fear and didn’t buy it at the $224 price.
@PlacidPenguin Yes, I saw that last night. I was trying to get my brother to jump on that price. I’m not sure if I was successful, or he procrastinated himself out of a bargain.
@PlacidPenguin @ruouttaurmind I procrastinated at $279, but I’d have jumped on it at $224. I have several attachments to the Samsung ecosystem or that otherwise aren’t fulfilled by the PH-1 (gear watch, wireless charging) but it looks really appealing if I can get over those things.
@djslack @ruouttaurmind
I’d have gotten one just to show somebody that I can buy brands other than
NexusPixel.@PlacidPenguin I don’t know… I suspect your sun rises and sets with a Pixel setting.
@ruouttaurmind
Oh, I wasn’t going to actually use the PH-1.
@PlacidPenguin Ya, I figured.
@ruouttaurmind
What’s THAT supposed to mean? I have used other brands before.
@PlacidPenguin Maybe one time, at band camp. But now? If you’re cut, I imagine you bleed four colours.
@ruouttaurmind
Band camp? Pffft.
More importantly, this is more likely what would happen:
@PlacidPenguin Ya, maybe. OR…
Speaking of WebOS, does anyone up in here remember the HP Veer?
@ruouttaurmind
I don’t really use Windows devices, although I do use windows. Though I usually keep the shade down.
@PlacidPenguin Windows devices?That’s genuine, authentic WebOS right there. Closer relation to Linux than Windows.
@ruouttaurmind
I know.
But you mentioned HP, and my mind took it in several directions.
@ruouttaurmind I bought one, and it arrived today. It’s very nice!
@eonfifty May it bring you many years of useful service.
@PlacidPenguin @ruouttaurmind Well blissful ignorance until the power goes out and suddenly she has no phone service. As far as I am concerned that is the value of a landline (which I don’t currently have but had when I could afford it) - service during power outages, especially extended ones.
@Kidsandliz @ruouttaurmind
During the last few extended blackouts by me, there was no landline service.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@Kidsandliz The base station actually has a battery. It continues to function without power for whatever the life of the battery is. It claims about 72 hrs standby time.
@PlacidPenguin @ruouttaurmind
I got the hp touchpad when they had that first blowout firesale. That’s what turned me to carrying a tablet everyday during my rail commute. I think I eventually put Android on it, and I’ve been using a tablet ever since.
@ACraigL @ruouttaurmind
Ooooh. LineageOS 14.1 unofficial ROM.
@ruouttaurmind
So, because I sliced a pinkie, I know what color my blood is outside the body.
@PlacidPenguin @ruouttaurmind
Yep! Although I’m pretty sure I was using Cyanogenmod at the time.
@ACraigL @ruouttaurmind
Well LineageOS IS more recent, so…

@mikibell Is ShopRunner any good? I have never heard of it before. Does it auto-enroll after 2 yrs?
Too lazy tonight to look.
@mfladd i get shoprunner for free with my Amex, I use it for sites like ann taylor where they have freakin high minimums for free shipping. It doesn’t help with processing time, so if the merchant is slow at picking and packing, no bonus there. It is nice to have the 2 day shipping.
I have had one package lost in the transition from merchant to shipper - don’t know whose fault but merchant refunded $s without a hassle.
Didn’t read t&cs but wouldn’t surprise me if it auto renews.
Check with amex first, it is free with gold card.
I think I’ve used up all the free trials they’ll give me. I only ever used at Newegg and ToysRUs, and not a lot at that. Liked it well enough, but not enough to pay for it.

As with most things I post, if you’re thinking about it, don’t think, just order. This will sell out in relatively short order.
Here’s how you get free shipping: Sign up for their emails (at the bottom of the home page). Within a few minutes you should get an email with a code for free shipping, no minimum purch.

@PlacidPenguin Where did you find that?
@sammydog01
Woot.
Audible annual membership offer: $99.50 for a 1 year subscription (normally $15/mo). Get all 12 book credits up front, take up to a year to use them. Offer ends 9/15.
I did this last year and haven’t regretted it. The best part about getting all 12 credits up front is being able to get several books during a “Buy 2 get 1” sale without having to buy extra credits. I still have 2 left of my original 12 credits and have been able to get 15 books, and a $10 gift certificate. All for a hunnert bucks.
eBay: 15% off Everything Sale (with code PREGAME15 on checkout). Valid through 10PM PT, 08/28/2018.
This isn’t one of those “from select sellers” deals where disreputable sellers all increase their pricing for the sale. Nope, this discount code is good for (nearly) any item from any seller, on your entire purchase (eBay’s checkout system limits you to 10 sellers per checkout, but no limit to the number of items as far as I can tell).
Every time these deals come up, I kind of get my hopes up that people would buy my junk.
@PlacidPenguin Every time these deals come up I kick myself for not having pics and descriptions of my junk ready to go so I can list during the discount offer period. I’ve got a couple watches I’ve been wanting to list, but haven’t taken the pics yet. Between the two I should net around $500. Really gotta get motivated to do that.
@ruouttaurmind Wait…sweet! Here comes the new screen for the Toshiba.
Nintendo Direct (via eBay) is offering a manufacturer refurbished Nintendo Switch 32GB console with Gray Joy-Con for $234 and free shipping after using code PREGAME15 on checkout. Discount expires on 8/28 at 10PM PT.
Sold by Nintendo with a full 12 month warranty. Nintendo does refurbs the way Apple, Canon and GoPro does refurbs… indistinguishable from a new retail item with the same warranty as a brand new item.
@ruouttaurmind Unblame: Almost ordered the wrong screen. Found the right screen (new) for the Toshiba, and final cost after coupon was $37. That is cheap for that screen.
@mfladd Now you’re cooking!
I’ve been looking for stuff to spend my money on, but I guess I’m feeling cheap today. I considered a Switch, Xbox One X, PS4 Pro, Xbox Elite controller, gauges for my hot rod project, on and on. But just can’t talk myself into spending any money.
@mfladd @ruouttaurmind
If you want to waste money, I’ll give you a list of things to buy within a particular budget.
@PlacidPenguin You got it. My current budget seems to be about $0.09 but if I dig around in my couch cushions I can probably bump that up to a full dime.
@PlacidPenguin @ruouttaurmind Check warehouse deals. I bought a pair of window cranks to a window type I don’t have, a suspension bushing to who knows what, 2 filters for a vacuum cleaner I don’t own, and a TV wall mount. I didn’t need any of it, but the total was less than $1 shipped with Prime.
I was good in not buying any sub-0.10 phone cases or screen protectors. I have enough of those via BOCs.
I also bought a trailer light harness for a Honda Civic. I don’t have a Honda Civic, but for under $2, it was waaaaay cheaper than buying the 3-to-2 converter by itself.
@ruouttaurmind
For $0.09, I’ll tell you where you could find better couch cushions to raid.
On an unrelated note:
@narfcake - I’ll give you $0.04 if I could tell people you have money which you don’t care about in your couch cushions.
@PlacidPenguin @ruouttaurmind Jokes on you. I don’t have a couch anymore.
(Have you not checked your spy cameras recently?! Yeesh!)
@narfcake @ruouttaurmind
I started to airfry my monitors, but halfway through, I realized that I don’t actually have an air fryer…
…Or monitors…
@PlacidPenguin @ruouttaurmind
/giphy fried monitors
@PlacidPenguin You only don’t have an air fryer because that thick penguin stubbornness won’t tell me where to ship it.
@ruouttaurmind
The stubbornness comes from somewhere else as was hinted at on July 12th at 2:42 pm Eastern time.
@PlacidPenguin Save me the agony of searching every thread for a 07/12 2:42PM post?
@ruouttaurmind
Where would the fun be in that?
@PlacidPenguin @ruouttaurmind For the cost of a catshirt from a thrift store, I bought (3) oven door hinges, (2) air hose fittings, and (1) 5" caster. And this time, they’re useful things, as the hinges fit my oven.
@narfcake I do love a bargain, even when it’s someone else getting the bargain!
@PlacidPenguin morningsave has, or at least had, an airfryer giveaway to enter. You might then, if you are lucky, become an owner of an airfryer…
@Kidsandliz
@ruouttaurmind The shitty screen protector is still available at 0.02 (albeit an add-on item)
https://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B076XX72DC/s=warehouse-deals&condition=used
The 35w/12v MR16 halogen bulb w/o lens for 0.24 doesn’t have that caveat.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B002OMHHAS/s=warehouse-deals&condition=used
@Kidsandliz @PlacidPenguin Deadline to enter was yesterday.
@Kidsandliz @ruouttaurmind
Oh well. It’s not like I’d ever get a free air fryer anyways.
@narfcake
Well, there goes the rest of my morning…
@PlacidPenguin @ruouttaurmind oops sorry about that.
@Kidsandliz @PlacidPenguin @ruouttaurmind
Blame the goat!
@Kidsandliz @narfcake @ruouttaurmind
I will.
I wanted an air fryer which I wouldn’t use.
Actually, I saw a giveaway email this week, but I didn’t see anything when I clicked it.
Probably should have switched to desktop mode.
@narfcake Oh hell yes. I just found the most awesome bit of kit for $0.62, not an add-on, like new condition, normally sells for $10. And I’m not telling because it’s going into the mehexchange box. I wasn’t going to participate this time, but today’s purchase is just too awesome not to share!
/giphy so excited
@ruouttaurmind
You’re participating?
Uh oh…
@PlacidPenguin What? I’ve got the best junk!
@ruouttaurmind
Double uh-oh.
I normally wouldn’t post regular Humble Bundle bundles, but if you’re into board games, check this out.
https://www.humblebundle.com/games/digital-tabletop-bundle
I bought the $1 tier so as to get the Android versions of Ticket to Ride and Mysterium, which was an interesting game when I played it a couple of months ago.
@PlacidPenguin I usually spring for the dollar bundle. I have so many games.
@PlacidPenguin I remember when “board games” meant Monopoly, Pictionary and Trivial Pursuit.
@ruouttaurmind
Sounds like you need some Wootopoly in your life.
(Picked it up brand new for a few dollars on eBay last year. Not taking it out of the wrapping though.)
@PlacidPenguin @ruouttaurmind I picked up a case of Wootopoly for a buck a pop.
@sammydog01 A full case? Sweet!
@ruouttaurmind A case is only 3 games but sounds cooler.
@ruouttaurmind @sammydog01 I though I was the only one sitting on a couple copies of Wootopoly…I’m about to just strip the player peices out as that’s all I really want but they just sit there up in the attic taking up space, next to all my extra monkies.
@reg036 @ruouttaurmind I just checked- it’s a case of six not including the one we actually play with. I’m not a hoarder, nope not at all.
It was brought to my attention that if you open Play to Ride through Steam once you buy it through this bundle, and connect an Asmodee account to the game, then since the extra packs are connected to the Asmodee account, you’ll get the content for free on your phone once you log in to the same account.
Via eBay: Seller refurbished Grade B iPhone 6, 64GB, Space Gray, Locked to TrackPhone for $1,000 and free shipping.
Use discount code JUSTRELAX to shatter that price down to $950. Because, bargains?
IDK… I just… IDK.
Fiction classics on Audible for $0.66. Hundreds of hours of fiction classics. Sherlock Holmes alone is 63 hours (barely a penny per hour!).
Sherlock Holmes Complete Collection
The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde
The Invisible Man
Collected Short Stories of HP Lovecraft
The Three Musketeers
Great Expectations by Dickens
There’s also some Jane Austin, but I’m not going to trifle with formatting links. Because, Jane Austin.
Just search Audible for the titles and scroll through the dozens of results until you find the ones that are $0.66:
Northanger Abbey
Sense and Sensibility
Mansfield Park
@ruouttaurmind Once I put some items in my cart, Audible suggested ‘you might also like’, and several others popped up. Thanks!
@ruouttaurmind Interesting. list price 94¢ and released Tuesday. i wonder where these came from.
At this price I’ll buy a few.
@OldCatLady I’ll give that a try. I already own the titles I would be interested in from the list I posted, but I’ll see if others pop up if I add something from the list to my cart.
@craigthom Possibly short term promo items?
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@ruouttaurmind
Nice.
And yeah. Jane Austen.
@OldCatLady @ruouttaurmind
Authors?
@f00l You would think Siri would recognize “Austin” preceded by “Jane” is almost certainly referring to Jane Austen. But then, as Intelligent Assistants go, Siri has proven she’s smart, but not really intelligent.
@ruouttaurmind They are new items as of Tuesday, mostly the same narrators. I think they bought a new cheap collection, may from that USB drive.
They’ve got to be better than Librivox, anyway, and I’ve got a $5 credit for writing a review.
Last week i discovered i could get a free library card from the next county over, and they are part of a statewide co-operative that’s got a bigger collection than my local library, so I’ve been listening for free.
@craigthom My library system has several networks it’s part of with apps that allow you to borrow e-books, audio books, etc… Hoopla is the big app that has a lot. They also have Museum passes you can check out for free access to several museums and arts centers.
@f00l @OldCatLady @ruouttaurmind ok, it appears that all three cheap books were added this week, none have reviews, they are all of public domain books, and they are from Oregan (sic) Publishing.
So if you search Audible for Oregan Publishing you get a couple of hundred. Note the spelling.
@reg036 My library only has RB Digital, but the little adjacent county library system i just joined also ha s Overdrive and Hoopla.
As far as i can tell the first two are limited to the collection the library or group of libraries owns, while Hoopla has its own content.
The deciding factor for me is that only Overdrive works with Android Auto. I could just use Bluetooth, but that would mean giving up Waze on my car’s display, and that’s not going to happen.
@craigthom @ruouttaurmind I bought that USB drive- it looks like there’s a lot of overlap in the titles but the narrators are different. I just checked the samples on their website.
@ruouttaurmind @sammydog01 The USB drive is all public domain, too.
I was mistaken about them all being added this week; some were added as long as six months ago, and there are a few reviews here and there.
