Addison Airport Tunnel
0Mediocre is over by the Addison Airport, right? Ever use the Addison Airport Tunnel?
When my kids were young, it was worth it to pay to drive through there every now and then, because it delighted them. Now I just think: man, that's really, really lazy. It's not that far to go around.
But, I mean, if you use it all the time, that's fine. I'm not judging. Whatever.

Just used it the other day, but after living here 15 years I think that was the first time.
It was slightly terrifying. Do I win for going but only having been here like 4 months?
Wait a second. I posted this topic, and I think I went back to the main topic list less than a minute later, and there was already a picture of the Addison Airport Tunnel. Seems like faster than a human could reasonably be expected to do, so I'm guessing it was automatic. Which is impressive.
At 53 cents per trip (thanks Wikipedia!), it seems like a bargain. I save 1.5 miles or so. Knowing that everyone in Texas drives a 16mpg truck, and Dallas gas prices are around $3.45 a gallon, that saves $0.32 in gas. 20 cents to save a few minutes and drive under an airport? SHUT UP AND TAKE MY DIMES.
16mpg? Wur dew yu fin won dem der fanci pickemup truckes? Minez ownly gits bout 6 milles a gallen. Golly
Real footage of @MEHcus' ride:
@MEHcus that must have been fun in the rain today.
Really messed my hair up
I approve that our offices are close to this - gets my vote as one of the most mediocre of public works projects around. That said, I take it so I can hear my exhaust in the tunnel like a redneck.
I too will gladly pay NTTA 56 cents for a mere 15 seconds of aural pleasure! There's simply not enough tunnels 'round these parts.
Never used the tunnel you're speaking of, and I don't live anywhere near Dallas, but I've taken the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel a bunch of times. It's a ~20-mile bridge with two one-mile tunnels that go underneath the Chesapeake Bay in Virginia. It's awesome. Costs like 15 bucks each way to drive it.

i used to live there. used to try to hold my breath while we were in each tunnel.
I do that while driving through the PA Turnpike Appalachian mountain tunnels ;)
Used it a few times. Nice rest stop part way. Enjoyed watching the ships. Still don't feel totally comfortable in tunnels,
Am I the only one who honks when going through a tunnel, any tunnel?
I refuse. I don't even have a toll tag. I use George Bush so infrequently that I'm still saving money versus letting the NTTA have their $20/year loan (you know, for the starter tag).
