@Kidsandliz@therealjrn The batteries always ran out before I did. And then my parents would ask why I’d wasted them doing that when there was a lamp beside the bed. Carbon-zinc cells in an incandescent flashlight did not have an impressive light output or runtime.
“… lamp would be great for:” All of the above in the list.

@cfg83@therealjrn I have seen them before but haven’t bought them. But if Meh had them for a good price I could probably be persuaded … @troy? @jouest?
@psantora It’s not. It can be powered from a USB wall-wart, or it can run on three AA batteries, but it has no rechargeable battery of its own. I’d have to take one apart to verify it, but I suspect that plugging in the power cord disconnects the AA batteries, to prevent the unit from slightly overvolting the AA cells and potentially causing Unwanted Things. (There are other ways to achieve isolation as well, that’s just the simplest one that came to mind. I do not actually know what, if anything, is included to prevent that issue.)
@cfg83@psantora@werehatrack
Um…zoom in. The third battery appears to be under the top pair, in a somewhat asymmetrical arrangement, favoring the top battery position.
@cfg83@psantora@therealjrn@werehatrack
Yeah that puzzled me too, but yes seemed to 3. And 4.5v makes more sense for a cheap COB light. Close to the 5v USB input.
Would probably buy if not for the weird round power connector.
Three batteries. The “Upper” battery is stacked above one of the bottom batteries.
SO CLOSE! There’s two upper batteries with the third underneath. Unless, of course, you stand the lamp up, then the top batteries become the bottom and conversly the bottom battery becomes the top. I heard that meh is going to offer an encabulator to help ameliorate this situation.
@mediocrebot@therealjrn Yes, most indubitably. Three batteries makes the most sense anyway because 3*1.5 volts in series = 4.5 volts => close to 5 volts from USB.
A chargeable/battery-powered wireless lamp would be great
…if that’s what today’s Meh sale lamps were. But they aren’t chargeable, they are just able to be powered NON-WIRELESSLY via a USB cable from a suitable wall-wart, power bank, etc.
Leaving the light on.
Power outages.
@Kyeh Yes. That was a duh I was surprised wasn’t in the choices.
Reading a book under the covers
@therealjrn That is what flashlights are for if you are a kid.

@PocketBrain
Yes, This… But not this light. Need more lumens!

@mediocrebot Not bad.
@cfg83 @mediocrebot Reminds me of those booklights.

@cfg83 @therealjrn I’d probably buy those if Meh offered them!
@cfg83 Aren’t they cool @Kyeh? I first saw them on a kick starter or something, but they sell them on Amazon now.

@Kyeh @therealjrn Seems like you could make one, especially if you are one of those Kendo-Origami masters.
@cfg83 @therealjrn I have seen them before but haven’t bought them. But if Meh had them for a good price I could probably be persuaded … @troy? @jouest?
@cfg83 @therealjrn I’ve done some bookbinding & similar stuff so I probably could, but I most like never will.
@Kyeh @therealjrn That is so … meh … of you.
@cfg83 @therealjrn
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
( I most likely never will.)
Is the lamp chargeable? I thought there was no internal battery that could be charged, just AAs
@psantora It’s not. It can be powered from a USB wall-wart, or it can run on three AA batteries, but it has no rechargeable battery of its own. @psantora You should buy a set, @werehatrack just for the research value alone! Why won’t you think of the children?
@psantora @werehatrack I found the picture with 2 AA battery holder.

@psantora @therealjrn @werehatrack THANK YOU for pointing this out. It is 3 batteries.
On the good side, more batteries => more stability => won’t fall over as easy.
