Hey guys, I found a 3-axis gimbal for under $100. I ordered this right away - it's light and it's 3-axis! I hope I don't regret it.
http://www.amazon.com/Walkera-Brushless-Gimbal-iLook-OS117/dp/B00KQDUNEE/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top?ie=UTF8
Anyone have any opinions on this?
This is the one I'm still waiting to arrive. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00GAY5YBU/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Let us know how well that one works out I might have to get it as it's also lighter than the one I ordered.
@DJMajickMan that one works well I've heard but it's a 2 axis gimbal like what must of us have here. It's light because it's mostly plastic.
@garyhgaryh I only see two motors on the Walkera...how does it yaw? (It's a G-2D--I think it should be G-3D for yaw, and the pictures of that one clearly show a yaw motor--for $149.)
@fultonmartin what they have pictured is only a two axis gimbal. I'm hoping it's a g-3d since g-2d are all 2 axis. I asked the seller of it's really a 3 axis gimbal and he replied sarcastically it is because that's what the title in the order says so I'm gonna take a chance it is. I've also asked for a pic of the product box. I'll just return it if it's not what I expected.
@garyhgaryh There are two versions of the G-2D. Aluminum or plastic. They have both listed. I'm sure it's a seller's confusion about what they have. EDIT: I also contacted the seller for clarification. If they confirm as they did with you, I'll order. I love my G-3D on the Tali.
@garyhgaryh Soooo... here's the response I got from the seller. Still clear as mud, innit: Dear customer, Greetings from XCSOURCE and it's our great honor that you are interested in our products. It's G-3D 3 Axis we are selling, it's Walkera QR X350 PRO FPV (G-2D) Any further questions please feel free to contact us. With best regards, XCSOURCE
@ruouttaurmind Mine shipped today.. Yeah!! Customer service couldn't send me a picture. I'm ok with it.. for that price, it's a steal for 3-axis gimbal. I love my lightweight gimbal, but I already see the jitters when I move from side to side which a 3-axis gimbal can correct. I've watched comparison videos and the Zenmouse gimbals are the test, but I aint paying $400 for one.
@garyhgaryh I just found this listing in the seller's Amazon store. It's the actual G-3D gimbal for $155. I wonder if AMEX would stand behind me if I have to dispute the charge? If it's the G-2D it's available for $65 from a number of sources. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00OB1L8TQ
Ok, eff it. It's only money. I'll make more. @garyhgaryh is a bad influence. LOL! Expected delivery between June 12 to sometime in September 2016.
@ruouttaurmind LOL It's G-3D 3 axis we are selling ....(G-2D) model?
@ruouttaurmind Yeah I think we're getting a g-3d, not g-2d. I just think the seller doesn't realy understand what they are selling.. They had the 3-axis (g-3d?) for $155 - same listing, but recently dropped all the way down to 95/96 so I have high hopes it's a 3-axis.. If we indeed get a 2-axis gimbal, we can just return it and say description not accurate.
That is very clean looking. Tempting...
@sportykev If you look closely, the one pictured is only a two axis gimbal. I think the seller just dosn't have pics for the 3 axis.
@garyhgaryh Even the G3D is pretty sleek:
And I LOVE the quick-detach function. There's a rail that mounts to the body and the gimbal slides onto the rail and is secured with a thumbscrew. Off the bird in about 20 seconds!
@ruouttaurmind Yup, i like that! I can calibrate compass w/o the gimbal on.
Ugh I want... but this cheapie gimbal I just mounted doesn't even have 30mins of flight time yet.
@sportykev Our phantom w/o anything extra on it won't get half that! Today I few and hit the 7 min mark. I got it back in time (i could see it was blinking red all the way). Talk about landying anxiety. With fpv, you will lose track of time in segments, but it makes flying that more interesting.
@sportykev Cripes Kev, my Tali with no camera and gimbal won't hit 30 minutes with a 22.2v 5400mAh battery!
@ruouttaurmind LOL omg... I got 6 minutes today, however, I think it's my gimbal calibration. It's adjusting like CRAZY. It's like a Michael J Fox gimbal. I need to fix this thing. It's jumpy even when the P1.1.1 is sitting flat on the ground.
@sportykev Ya, you got something funky there. Prolly need to fuss with the motor power settings some more. BTW, I get about 27 min from the Tali when I'm not crashing it. :-)
@sportykev that's about right Kevin. Are you running a video transmitter?
@sportykev @garyhgaryh I'm getting around 8-9 min. with gimbal and no VTX on the CX-20 and Nova..
@garyhgaryh nope no video transmitter! just the BGC gimbal. where are my damn 9443 props!
Shipping update on my G-3D (G-2D) mystery gimbal: Delivery scheduled for Tuesday, 30 June, 2015 Whaaaat?
@ruouttaurmind yeah I got a similar mail. It's on the slow boat from Hong Kong to the U.S. I noticed on Amazon the are pushing expected delivery dates if from overseas. My servo cable was targeted for next month but I got it in a few days. My gopro av cable was targeted 3-6 weeks and I thought it was lost after two long weeks but couldn't file a lost package until after week six, but the package arrived on week three. Everything else was taking about a week and a half so that is why I thought the gopro av cable was lost.
@ruouttaurmind it'll prob arrive sooner.
@ruouttaurmind guys becareful about long shipment dates, at least from eBay. There are scams out there where they collect paypal loot, give you really long shipment times, so when you finally get something (they send you a tracking #), it will be outside of the claims window. And the item you receive is a keychain. This happened to my cousin when he bought a too-good-to-be-true GoPro from eBay. He got a keychain w/ a plastic camera. Though, I'd have to assume AMZ would cover you in scams like this.
@sportykev Thanks for the heads up. PayPal has a 45 day window for claims. If I make a purchase on eBay and don't see my merch in 44 days I would make a claim. So far (knock on wood) hasn't been a problem with eBay. For this gimbal from Amazon I paid with AMEX which gives me 60 days from the transaction date. If I don't have a G-3D in my hands within 59 days I'll dispute.
Hey guys, look at the listening now. The options have been changed. Both options now list 2-axis gimbal with some funny characters after it. Pictures have been updated and one is now white (other is black) for the product color. But the title of the ad still says 3-axis gimbal (at least for now), but there is no longer option to select a 3-axis gimbal. Did anyone make a screenshot of the page before they made their change? I think the next step is for them to remove the reference to 3 axis gimbal in the title. I think they caught on to their mistake.
@garyhgaryh I didn't make a screen shot, but I did save the message from the seller that specifically states "It's G-3D 3 Axis we are selling, it's Walkera QR X350 PRO FPV" so if Amazon won't back me up, surely AMEX will.
@garyhgaryh listening=listing
@ruouttaurmind refund should not be an issue as desc is not accurate and I have emails of me trying to confirm the details. Hope it doesn't take 45 days to get here or whatever the expiration of claim window is.
Hey guys, I stepped out and had a package waiting for me. I got the gimble, unfortunately, it's a G-2D 2-axis gimbal. It looks to be a very nice unit. I'm requesting a return now.
@garyhgaryh Bummer. I figured as much. I wonder how they handle returns to China?
@ruouttaurmind probably get's warehoused and when they get enough of them it ends up on Woot
I will probably go for this next: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Walkera-G-3D-Brushless-Gimbal-for-FPV-iLook-GoPro3-on-X350-PRO-USA-/191549014379?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2c9936016b
@garyhgaryh I've been watching this one on eBay. I was going to throw out a last second bid, but decided against another purchase until I see what shows up from Groupon. http://www.ebay.com/itm/331559188557
@ruouttaurmind did you get the supposed 3 axis gimbal yet?
@garyhgaryh Not yet. The tracking information provided by Amazon only says "shipped". No further details are available. Since the fake rotors took about a week longer to get to me than yours, I would expect a similar result with the gimbal.
@ruouttaurmind sounds like it's on its way. I got an emailed saying it was shipped and got it soon afterwards, although the expected delivery date is weeks away.
@ruouttaurmind btw, I also saw that listing. Hope it's a good used one.
@garyhgaryh BTW, have you reached out to the Amazon gimbal seller? I'm very curious how they're going to respond...
@garyhgaryh I finally located a tracking number from the gimbal seller. My 2D G-3D gimbal departed San Francisco International Sort facility on 5/23. I will prolly see it in 2 to 3 days. Any response from Amazon or the seller in your case?
@ruouttaurmind I haven't heard back from the seller yet. I will file a claim if I don't hear back by tomorrow. I am suppose to give them 2 days.
@ruouttaurmind claimed has been filed. Claim Status: We are investigating your claim and expect to reach a decision by June 10, 2015
Here's another cheap 3-axis gimbal:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/FPV-HMG3D-3-Axis-Gopro-Brushless-Gimbal-Camera-Mount-with-Controller-Motor/271852116487?_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20131003132420%26meid%3D995d1f83cd1f41abb4922c2855c253ca%26pid%3D100005%26rk%3D4%26rkt%3D6%26sd%3D331559188557&rt=nc
@garyhgaryh I saw those. It's kinda bulky compared to the G-3d
@ruouttaurmind They seem to imply it's designed better than the walkera g-2d (too bad they didn't mentioned the g-3d): Learned from H3-2D gimbal design, adopts slipring motors to avoid wrapping
@garyhgaryh It looks like a clone of the Tarot design.
@ruouttaurmind The g-3d is $139 on goodluckbuy.com. I have a 5x ebay bucks deal going on now. debating on whether i should get it from ebay at 150 + 5x ebay bucks... decisions decisions...
@garyhgaryh G-3d on eBay for $135 and free shipping. Seller has 100% feedback with 54 ratings in the last 30 days. It won't qualify for the eBay bucks deal. I have no idea how they calculate the eBay bucks, so I don't know how much the 5x reward is worth? http://www.ebay.com/itm/201356897618
@ruouttaurmind That's a pretty good deal, but it's from the Ukraine (Kiev). Would you buy from them? yeah 5x ebay bucks is about 10% off purchase price, but they will credit you the next quarter where you can spend it then. I have to spend 150 or more. I think you posted a deal a month ago where the g-3d was 139, but i forgot who the seller was.
@ruouttaurmind He has good reviews. Tempting.
@garyhgaryh Ukrane, China, all the same to me. He's got over 100 positive feedback rating for the last six months. I'd confirm the purchase qualifies for eBay's and PayPal's Buyer Protection programs, then I'd swing away. Nothing to lose except for a little time.
@ruouttaurmind well... if we're talking about stability, China is def more stable :)
@sportykev I suppose China wins in the food department too. I'd rather have egg drop soup and sesame chicken than kapusniak and nalisnyky. :-)
@sportykev I guess in terms of the political environment. Guys, I have 5x ebay bucks to use. I want to buy the skyzone 3d glasses... You guys have any opinions of them?
@ruouttaurmind I bought the walkera G-3D from the guy from Kiev. Lets see how that goes :).
@ruouttaurmind wow, that guy from kiev send the gimbal already. Not only did he send me a personal email that he did, but he also took pictures of the contents. That's almost like personalize service. No wonder his rating is so high - %100.
@garyhgaryh That's fantastic. I guess I should have grabbed it for myself. ;-) I looked at his other stuff, but it's mostly RC cars/buggys and a couple of repro Soviet wrist watches. I'd love to have a Soviet watch, but I'd rather have the real deal.
@ruouttaurmind Does he not have anymore g-3d? I noticed the g-3d has some minor jello effect from all the videos i've seen. I'm going to cut the back extension that holds the controller board and velcro it elsewhere to solve the jello issue.
@garyhgaryh If that's necessary, maybe try the foam earplug trick first. Roll up a foam earplug and insert it inside the rubber anti-jello mounts. Sometimes the rubber mounts allow too much movement and results in the gimbal/camera shaking.
@garyhgaryh He doesn't have any more G-3d listed, but I've added him to my favorite sellers list and I'll keep an eye out for what he lists.
@ruouttaurmind Ok, i will try that. Someone mentioned that recently. Maybe it was you.
@ruouttaurmind He has another one listed. Go get it! http://www.ebay.com/itm/Walkera-G-3D-3-Axis-Brushless-Camera-Gimbal-For-iLook-ILOOK-Gorpo-3-3-NIB-/201358823293?
@ruouttaurmind
@garyhgaryh Great customer service! Rare from any seller, particularly an off-shore seller.
@garyhgaryh have you gotten this yet? He's relisted the gimbal. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Walkera-G-3D-3-Axis-Brushless-Camera-Gimbal-For-iLook-ILOOK-Gorpo-3-3-NIB-/201365087610?
@DJMajickMan I found this one on aliexpress.com (sold by GoodLuckBuy) for $129.99/free ship: http://www.aliexpress.com/item/2014-NEW-Walkera-G-3D-3-Axis-Brushless-Camera-Gimbal-For-QR-X350-Pro-Tali-H500/32351729874.html
@ruouttaurmind good price and $5 less than what I paid. Mine is in the states already.
I received my G-3D 3 axis (G-2D) gimbal today. Like @garyhgaryh, I also received the G-2D. I've sent a message to the seller. I'll give them until Monday to respond, then file a claim with Amazon.
Gary, have you heard anything on your claim yet?
Yes, they will refund my money, but I have to go to the post office and find out what the charges are to send it back. I'll do that tomorrow. They told me not to get tracking. I don't care what they say, I"m getting tracking cuz if they say they never got the package, I'm out the money and the product.
@garyhgaryh
Is it going to America? If so 5.95 for a small flat rate box, comes with tracking and insurance
@nltownsend843 It's going back to Hong Kong.
@garyhgaryh
Your best bet is probably going to be ask them for a partial refund then. And keep or sell it.
if you bought it off ebay you can return it thru ebay and print your own shipping label without leaving the house, that will also give you a quote on shipping (you dont have to accept ebays shipping)
Or option three put your foot down (iit usually works) and make them send you a prepaid shipping label, its not your fault they listed it wrong.
@garyhgaryh It's roughly $17 for USPS First Class package or $62 for USPS Priority International.
The Amazon seller replied to me:
Dear customer,
Thanks for your updating me on this issue.
We are so sorry that we wrote the wrong information
about the product, this product is G-2D 2 Axis, so sorry for our problem, we will correct the description.
and Our goal is to make the customer satisfied and to protect the customer's profit.
In this case,we would like to issue you the 10USD refund for our mistake, do you accept it ?
Once again, I'm sorry if this mistake has caused you any inconvenience and unhappiness.
Looking forward to your reply.

Are they kidding me? Ten bucks? That would have me paying $86 for a gimbal I can order from eBay for about $60.
I declined their offer, told them why, and will wait with anticipation for their response.
@ruouttaurmind
They always start low, tell them you want half your money back....then theyll offer $20......then youll haveto explain to them what half is.
Then tell them if you dont get half back or a prepaid shipping label youre going to file a claim.
Im telling you, you have to be so much of an asshole you feel bad for the things you say lol
@ruouttaurmind worst part is the make it sound like its your fault. Yeah they wrote 3 axis gimbal, but they also made it an option: 2-axis or 3-axis. I really don't want to wait in line for usps to just get a quote, then wait in line again after they give me their ok.
I sent it back yesterday and they fully reimbursed me within hours of me sending pics of the receipt. On a positive note I should be getting my real g-3d this week as it's already arrived in the U.S. from the Ukraine and has left New York to Ca.
@garyhgaryh Wow, that was pretty quick! Since I finally got my repair parts from China I'm going to hold off on another for now. After all, I don't USUALLY fly more than one at a time. :-)
@ruouttaurmind I got my gimbal today! I haven't opened it yet! Pretty stoked it got here so fast!
@garyhgaryh Wow, that WAS fast!
At least they are on the ball with their responses, however lame their offer is...
Dear customer,
Thank you for your quick reply.
And once again,please accept our sincere apologize for our mistake.
Although the product is actually a Walkera G-2D gimbal, it is really worth that price, we can issue you more 5USD, that's to say, we can issue you the 15USD, it is limited, if you do not accept it, you can help us to send it back to us,and we will take on all the fees about returning, please be assured.
Much appreciate for your great understanding on this issue.
Looking forward to your kind reply.

I think I'll just call AMEX and let them work it out.
And now...
Dear customer,
Thanks for your quick reply.
We can also understand your position, but the supplier offer us the product at a high cost,we issue you the 15USD, the profit has below zero, if we can, we are vey happy to send the 30USD back to you, but ……, we are so sorry.
Much appreciate for your great understanding on this issue.
In this case,could you kindly help us to send the item back to us ?
Looking forward to your reply.

@ruouttaurmind will you keep it if they give you $30?
@garyhgaryh I don't really want or need a G-2D, but to quickly dispose of the situation I'd settle for that. Unfortunately they're pretty clear that "I wish we could send you $30, but we can't." But, yes, I'd consider it a closed issue for that amount.
@ruouttaurmind I'm just pissed that I will have to get in line at the post office twice. We both had verified with them it's a 3-axis gimbal and they won't even send a self addressed prepaid shipping box to us?
@garyhgaryh I agree. I just received a message from them asking me to return the package on my dime with the promise that they would refund my original purchase plus return shipping. I wrote back and insisted on a prepaid USPS shipping label.
The final solution was waiting in my In Box this morning:
Dear customer,
Thanks for your updating me on this issue.
We have discussed your problem with our boss, as the mistak is made by us, our boss said that we ,as the seller, should take on all the responsibility.
In this case, he agreed for the 30USD for our mistake,we hope that this solution can make you feel better.
And we also hope that you can support our customer service.
At the same time, the 30USD refund will be issued within 24 hours,please remember to check your account within 24 hours.
Once again, I'm sorry if this proble has caused you any inconvenience and unhappiness.
Best regards and enjoy your weekend!

Although I don't want or need a 2D gimbal, it's a good price for one, so I'll probably mount it to my Quanum Nova, then post the Nova on Craig's List for sale to kill two birds with one stone.
@ruouttaurmind I haven't read the manual to my g-3d yet. What's the easiest way to test it? With my 2D gimbal, I simply put my gopro on it and hooked up the gimbal to the balance port of my lipo. Can I do the same with the G-3d?
@garyhgaryh The G-3D kit doesn't come with a balance port cable I don't think, but ya, just hook up power and you're good to go. EDIT: I just checked the spare parts that came with my G-3D. It came with a short power lead... JST to... dunno, some kind of Dupont whatever that connects to the input harness. The input harness in turn connects to the port on the back of the G-3D.
Nice! I'm going to return mine only because I have a g-3d coming.
