@agnesnutter@jamesmcp Finally, a product that can literally be advertised as “Just add water”. And it has to be tap water. Not distilled or purified / demineralized, as are most bottled waters. Most people are surprised to find that pure H2O is not that good a conductor, after all the horror stories of people being electrocuted in bath tubs or by lightening while standing in a puddle, but those waters tend to have dirt or other minerals which make them good conductors.
Of course, you also have to add electricity by plugging it in…

If they mean, “no dangerous, powerful chemicals,” ozone is potentially just as dangerous as bleach, alcohol, or pretty much anything else you’d use to disinfect something–because anything strong enough to be dangerous to germs could potentially be dangerous to you, too, in higher quantities. You should avoid breathing in or drinking pretty much any disinfectant. But that doesn’t mean you need to avoid using them.
@werehatrack Lettuce in your area must be e-coli free. I wash my vegetables by hand with one of these, after washing my hands with soap and then rinsing with it first.
I bought several of these earlier and have not seen a germ since.
(Didn’t see any before, they’re kinda small, but that’s a different story. And usually can’t find my glasses, anyway.)
@phendrick Just a note, from experience. If your unit lights up and then powers off again really quickly, don’t assume you have a bad unit. That’s more than likely caused by a bad contact with the power coils in the base. Rotate the bottle in the base some and try again.
I’ve had several of these for most of a year and occasionally have that issue and have always been able to correct it. I’ve also given several as (cheap) gifts and have not had a bad unit in the batch.
I highly recommend these. Only two negatives: First, the sanitizing aqueous ozone isn’t stable for long; it reverts back to regular water in short time. So you need to generate it fairly soon before you intend to use it. Second is, Dark Grey?? All nicer colors already sold out.

Whenever I see “ozone” I think of two things: chlorofluorocarbon and Brookstone.
Back in the '80s, air ionizers were all the rage, and the Brookstone store at Lenox Mall was committed. Right near the entrance, next to the massage chairs, they had several on display, all plugged in, pumping out enough ozone to burn my eyes and give me a headache. I image employees probably developed respiratory problems.
Have these. The trick is actually to use them as a HOCL generator. Look up the proportions to make with salt and vinegar and you get a very effective yet safe disinfectant.

If you don’t use any vinegar, you get sodium hypochlorite (aka bleach).

If you just use it as a spray bottle for miscellaneous liquids, you are not getting the full potential from it. Also, I have no idea how the material of the bottle or the electrodes will stand up to miscellaneous liquids. I’ve only used mine with water, as per instructions.
My favorite spray bottle for reuse is the one that comes with the Zevo insect spray. That thing puts out a good squirt or short stream of water that is accurate to at least a dozen feet. I use them with head shots of water to dissuade raccoons from the cat food I put outside. I wash them out well beforehand. It’s a PITA to get the spray head off/on, but doable.
It’s always strange when implicit chemophobia is used to sell something that simply generates its own chemicals. Ozone is a very powerful oxidizer and you are simply making it on the spot through electrolysis.
I’m usually suspicious that these products are saving anyone any money, but honestly at this price I’m less concerned.

@Jonas4321 Ozone is an effective sanitizer. I’ve been to water treatment plants that use ozone as part of their purifier process. My homedics sprayer definitely produces ozone as I can sometimes smell it. Or feel it at least, ozone kind of stings your nose.
Ozone is short lived but also needs time to work. For your cutting boards, start the ozone generator while you wash the boards. Then spray them thoroughly and allow to air dry.
Ozone is an oxidizer, so you’ll likely want to increase the frequency you treat the wooden board with mineral oil.
Bought one of these several months out of curiosity. Wouldn’t work out of the box. Manufacturer absolutely refused to do anything about it. Wouldn’t recommend buying anything from Homedics.

So, take heart meh; your experiment didn’t conclude with the original expectation but, it did provide empirical evidence of how alcohol affects social interactions amongst humans.

@caalsio well the problem is that you have to have it constantly running to keep the water “active” with ozone. Like spinning chocolate milk because the chocolate is separating and sinking to the bottom.

I tried mine today. They work with tap water. They also confirmed that my reverse osmosis filter works. The filtered water doesn’t have enough ions in it for these ozone generators.
I had a hot tub for twenty years that used an ozone generator to disinfect the water. That kept the water clear. So dissolved ozone really works as a disinfectant.
The ozone generator did need replacement and repairs over the years. Twenty years of ozone destroyed several plastic parts. That ozone generator used a UV light to generate ozone in air that was then mixed with the water in a ventury. This meant the pump needed to be running all of the time. When the UV light burned out, I put the new ozone generator into a sealed PVC enclosure. I put in two pieces of aquarium air tubing. I used an aquarium air pump to pressurize the enclosure, the other tube went to an air stone at the bottom of the hot tub. This arrangement used much less power than the big water pump.
These things use a very different system to generate ozone. The catalyst on the electrode will probably be fouled eventually, but it is way simpler to generate the ozone directly in the water than to pump it in as a gas.
