@chienfou@hchavers I’ve never had a problem figuring out when they were over the hill; one bite’s enough. (I have a bad habit of overbuying snacks for a road trip, and forgetting that they’re still in the snack bag when I get back.)
When I first started buying kind bars, they had some really great flavors that have since gone to that discontinued graveyard. My taste buds still mourn the black truffle sea salt almond and mango macadamia flavors
@ironcheftoni Did you ever try the savory flavors during the brief minute they were around? I liked them! But of course, if I like something it’ll get discontinued.
@heartbleed It’s not really an “expiration” date, it’s just that they won’t guarantee the bars will still be at the peak of freshness past that date. In other words, it’s the last date that they’d give you a refund if you complain that they’re stale. These dates tend to be set pretty early; I’m sure the bars will still be good at least 6 months past that date.
@Doodpants Sometimes these Kind bars become tooth-shatteringly hard even before the best-by date. They won’t make you sick, but you might end up canceling out any savings with a trip to the dentist.
Sam’s and Costco have these for 56-59¢ each, as another price point. You’re not getting much in a bar. Definitely in the “light snack” category and not worth the $1+ per bar Amazon price. There’s more packaging than there is snack, but if you’re buying them this is the best price you’ll likely find.
@Trinityscrew Hey, you never know what people will do. If they see a picture of the bar being tossed to a dog, some people will think it’s OK. I’m regularly surprised at the things we’re not supposed to feed dogs.
@lisagd@Trinityscrew
Yeah, I once told a woman that chocolate is bad for dogs and she said defiantly “I let MY dog eat anything he wants!” Animal abuse.
@Kyeh@Trinityscrew My parents wanted to get a dog for my brother, and it took a few tries before they found one to keep (long disaster story). One of them, in addition to having a taste for women’s shoes, but only one from each pair, ate a 16-ounce box of Godiva chocolates. By that point, I think my parents were secretly hoping it would kill the dog, but the chocolate had zero effect on the dog.
@Kyeh@lisagd I was just being a wise-ass. And I didn’t know that the last (poorly manipulated) picture was a dog being thrown one of these to eat. Now it all makes sense and I look like a bigger douche than I actually am. If that is even possible.
@Kyeh@Trinityscrew At least the story had a happy ending. My dad gave up on getting a grown dog–they were all Dalmatians–and got a puppy from the great-great-niece of the Dalmatian I had growing up.
Mathematically this is a good deal in that you couldn’t ordinarily even buy the ingredients to make the bars for less than this price (for comparison I used Walmart “great value” almonds and dried cranberries).
Nutritionally it’s not a bad ratio of carbs to protein according to MayoClinic.
In for one pack, since I couldn’t eat two before the best-before.
@katbyter Color me unsurprised. When a respected brand shows up on Meh, there’s a reason. (For example: Yesterday I found out why the Ninja Foodi Transformer is here; the newer model is simpler and takes up a lot less storage space due to not needing two lids.)
@katbyter@sammydog01@werehatrack I’ve had a few more since then (maybe I have a problem) and the ratio’s gotten a lot better, but I still encounter the occasional “meh” one.
I’ll resist the temptation to look for more (!) of them on Sidedeal. (Too late, already looked. But they’re $10 more, so I’m good.)

I thought these were healthy. Until I read the back and did some research. They are better for you then snickers. Not by much though
@bugger Bars like that tend to be incredibly sweet, even for someone like me, who has a hell of a sweet tooth.
Guess this is one of those days when I don’t feel like a nut. Pass.
This looks like a very Kind deal
What are these? Nut bars for ants?
@medz yeah. They need to be at least three times bigger than this!
@cs85b03 @medz well done derek
Wow, meh is really cutting things close with that best by date.
@SnakeJG best by, not expiration.
@laurengx3 @SnakeJG “Still safe” != “Still good to eat”
I’ve had to ditch too many Kind bars that were less than 30 days past the stale date; nuts can get rancid.
Keeping them in the freezer can buy you some time.
I’m a nut bar. I need some mini me!
/giphy satirical-crumby-mage
eat 2+ a day and you will just finish them by the BB date… No biggie normally but sometimes nuts can get a bit stale/rancid in time.
@chienfou how can you tell with Kind bars?
@chienfou @hchavers
They’ll become unkind.
@chienfou @hchavers I’ve never had a problem figuring out when they were over the hill; one bite’s enough. (I have a bad habit of overbuying snacks for a road trip, and forgetting that they’re still in the snack bag when I get back.)
you can never have too much stale meh food, says the guy with too much stale meh food
/showme gratifying-reflective-leech, banana for scale
@mediocrebot Ewww! I wouldn’t use those bananas for scale
That looks like kinky bananas with velcro tear-away skins…
@werehatrack
Kinky Bananas - I like that phrase.
/giphy abhorrent-lousy-fly
A 90-day warranty vs. a best by date 70 days away. Hmmm…
When I first started buying kind bars, they had some really great flavors that have since gone to that discontinued graveyard. My taste buds still mourn the black truffle sea salt almond and mango macadamia flavors

@ironcheftoni @Kyeh Story of my life.

$4.76/lb no thanks
1.4oz * 144 = 201oz = 12.6lb
$30/12.6lb => $2.38/lb
Unless I got something wrong here
@nugenrules
I’m seeing .7 oz. Where did you get the 1.4?
@nugenrules These are half the size of the bars that you’re thinking of.
So it’s about half size of a full size Kind bars.
And this amounts to roughly $5/12 pack equivalent… which is about a third of my local grocery store.
It’s a good deal, but I don’t know if I can stomach this much nuts by the expiration date.
@heartbleed It’s not really an “expiration” date, it’s just that they won’t guarantee the bars will still be at the peak of freshness past that date. White text on light blue background is super legible.
@sjk3 …Not
But it’s better than light grey on white, which seems to be all the rage on way too many websites.
@sjk3 for me it’s easier to see the white than the red text. Not sure if it’s because the red is smaller.

Haha…while scrolling through the pics quickly, I thought there was only half a bar but the other half was slid out of pkg:)
144 of these things? Gross.
@goodjuju I see what you did there.
@goodjuju @Trinityscrew puns like that are a dime a dozen dozens.
I don’t even want to know what the little white things are.
@MrJazz Puffed rice. Wait, you didn’t want to know.
Not that any of you will, but don’t feed these to your dog. Nuts are fairly dangerous to dogs, not to mention all that sugar.
@lisagd Or infants. Definitely don’t feed these to infants.
Or people with nut allergies. Real bad for them.
Or sleeping people. Choking hazard and all that.
We’re stating the obvious here, right? I want to make sure I am playing right.
@lisagd Remember not to eat the plastic on the outside.
@Trinityscrew Hey, you never know what people will do. If they see a picture of the bar being tossed to a dog, some people will think it’s OK. I’m regularly surprised at the things we’re not supposed to feed dogs.
@806D2701 Wise guy.

@Kyeh @Trinityscrew Nah, it’s all good. I tend to make jokes that are so obscure only I, and sometimes my brother, get them.
@Kyeh @Trinityscrew At least the story had a happy ending. My dad gave up on getting a grown dog–they were all Dalmatians–and got a puppy from the great-great-niece of the Dalmatian I had growing up.
@lisagd @Trinityscrew Oh, good.
Kind bars are our go-to snack. And my wife & I often share a bar. If we don’t get tired of the flavor we just scored a Hella deal.
/Ominous-downy-leopard https://giphy.com/gifs/reaction-nervous-terror-2YnDUqcyQOnVSPuuWC
How do you add the damn gif?
@JinksB
@JinksB Any / commands have to be the first thing on a line. And only a single space between the command and text.
Like so:
/giphy reaction-nervous-terror
@JinksB If you don’t like what giphy picked, keep hitting Edit and Save until you do, or the 5 minute edit window runs out.
I found a recipe for a knockoff of these that was really good. Except I never get around to making them so I ordered a box.

I kind of like KIND bars, but this kind of KIND bar is not the kind of KIND bar I kind of like.
/showme people with more plastic than nuts
Asa a teacher, these have a lot of value. But not as good as Jolly Ranchers. They’ll do any task for a solid sugar chunk.
/giphy cardiac-wholesome-surprise
My daughter asked for a box too.

MEH kind of hid the nutritional info from us didn’t they?
Now we all know that is a no-no don’t we?
@clarion47 They linked a photo of the nutritional info from a bar wrapper. That not good enough for you?

@medz That looks not rancid. In fact it looks tasty.
@sammydog01 or so the AI would have you believe…
When I’m trying nut I reach for one or two of these…oh did I mention they have cranberries?
Love these!
Box is a lot heavier than I expected. Maybe I’ve gone too far.
On the other hand, I’ll go through them pretty quick if they’re edible. (Rattles box.) They sound edible…
One of four sampled was a bit stale, but not enough to be inedible. (And by sampled, I mean “eaten beyond the point of no return,” ie “all gone.”)
At that rate they’ll be gone by Christmas, never mind January.
@TheFLP ditto here. I’ve eaten three and one was stale. It’s not December yet, so I’m KIND of surprised.
@katbyter Color me unsurprised. When a respected brand shows up on Meh, there’s a reason. (For example: Yesterday I found out why the Ninja Foodi Transformer is here; the newer model is simpler and takes up a lot less storage space due to not needing two lids.)
@katbyter @werehatrack Mine are a bit stickier than I expected but I’m enjoying them. Lots of them. I bought a second box at Sidedeal.
@katbyter @sammydog01 @werehatrack I’ve had a few more since then (maybe I have a problem) and the ratio’s gotten a lot better, but I still encounter the occasional “meh” one.
I’ll resist the temptation to look for more (!) of them on Sidedeal. (Too late, already looked. But they’re $10 more, so I’m good.)
Anyone else with peanut allergies/sensitivity notice the cross contamination is pretty prominent with these?
Too many rancid ones
I’ve eaten about 40 of them. Only one tasted stale (not rancid). So, even if a few were all the way bad, You’re still getting 144 of them
Anybody get sick from eating these? One person puked and another had bad gas/cramps. This was one common variable.
@medz I’m still eating them and doing ok.
@medz The chicory root/inulin will do that to me, so I avoid that ingredient like the plague.
@heartny @medz How many did they eat? I didn’t think puking was an inulin thing.
@heartny @sammydog01 pukey only ate one or two. We’re also investigating frozen ice cream as a culprit.
@medz @sammydog01 Gassy is definitely an inulin thing for sure.
