Forget optimizing. Get the cheap solution.

You have WiFi dead zones in your house. It’s a daily pain in the ass. Every morning, in your bed waiting for something, anything to load, you keep thinking vaguely that one of these days you’re really going to buckle down and research this whole problem. You’re going to come up with the ideal combination of gear and placement to ensure blazing WiFi all over your property. Maybe you’ll have to run some new cable, install some new outlets, maybe the optimal router will be really expensive, but it’ll be worth it. You’re really going to do that. Soon. For real.

No you’re not.

Come on. Give it up. That’s a ton of work and expense. And even if you did, through heroic effort, manage to pull that off, it’ll be just in time for technology and bandwidth needs to evolve beyond it. You’ll have spent all that money and time and still be staring at endlessly buffering videos.

You need something cheap and fast that works for now. You need a $17 solution. That’s this router for nine bucks. And this hundred-foot Ethernet cable for eight bucks. $17 total. Run the cable to where you need the WiFi boost and connect the router. Problem solved. For $17.

It might be ugly, but no uglier than living with spotty WiFi. It’s cheap. It’s fast. It’ll do. Until it doesn’t, when you can throw it away and get the next generation quick ‘n’ dirty solution.

Or you can save your $17 and keep suffering from crap WiFi, telling yourself all the while you’re going to optimize your home network one of these days. Just don’t come crying to our forum when you can’t load our forum.
