See It All

If, like me, you’ve gone down a rabbit hole of viral dash cam videos on Instagram or TikTok, you might think these things are best for capturing wild moments of highway recklessness and major accidents.

But, as Amazon user Peaky Blinders points out, it can help with minor incidents too:

After several fender benders and having my car damaged by people that don’t know how to parallel park without bumping into your car (I live in D.C), I decided to pull the trigger on this one.

That’s right: thanks to this thing’s automatic accident detection, it’ll record accidents you’re not even in the car for. So if someone gives your car a bump in the middle of the night, you’ll have proof to show to your insurance company and might even be able to get the car’s plates.

User Clafos provides this other helpful tidbit:

I connected it to the Cobra app and it lets me know when there’s a speed camera near, which is very convenient because you don’t usually spot these cameras in the city.

Now, there’s another obvious way to avoid getting caught by speed cameras: just don’t speed. The only problem with this? Sometimes you don’t know the exact speed limit on a given street, and so you end up thinking it’s 35 rather than 25. Or maybe you’re just not paying attention to your exact speed except to know that you’re not going dangerously fast. So you get a ticket for going 36 miles per hour. Or maybe two of those same tickets in the span of a month.

Umm, hypothetically speaking.

Anyway, this thing might help you in such a case. Because it’ll notify you of the camera, and you’ll know to check your speed and slow down if necessary.

Plus, you get front and rear cameras. Plus, they’re easy to install. Plus they’re $243 at Walmart and we’re selling a new one for 80 bucks or a refurb one for 40.

In conclusion: buy yourself a dash cam.
