Power, With A Conscience

Why should you buy these Better Battery Company batteries?

Well, for starters, they’re batteries. And you always need more batteries.

(To be exact: they’re 44 AA batteries, 44 AAA batteries, and 4 9V batteries.)

Now, maybe you think this perpetual need for more batteries doesn’t apply to you because you use the rechargeable kind. To this, we say: that’s great! And we mean it sincerely. Rechargeable batteries are the best to use because they create the least waste. But also: really? As in, you really always have batteries charged up, ready to go? You never pop the ones out of your remote and find their replacements already dead? Moreover, you never lose them? After all, we’re talking about batteries here. They’re small and a lot of them roll. You’ve seriously never misplaced one of those things?

Not to mention, every day brings us closer to gifting season. And while it’s not 1991, and nobody’s going to be unwrapping a Sega Game Gear capable of metabolizing 8 AAs into 45 glorious minutes of mobile Earthworm Jim, plenty of stuff still gets its juice from batteries that don’t charge with a USB cable.

But let’s back up a minute. That thing we said a couple paragraphs ago? About how rechargeable batteries make less waste? It’s true. But we should mention that these batteries won’t make you feel quite as guilty as some. From the company:

Our carbon neutral alkaline batteries & packaging are fully recyclable; instead of ending up in landfills, every recycled battery is broken down & their components are repurposed creating zero waste.

How cool is that? And if you’re like, But how do they ensure every battery gets recycled? the simple answer is, they don’t. But they do make it easy by providing a paid mailer, so you can load up your spent batteries and send them back to be recycled by the Better Battery Company. Neat, right?

Actually: very neat. By which we mean: each set of batteries comes in a neatly organized (recyclable) box. Is that really worth mentioning? Maybe not for you. But for me, a menace to my own household who regularly tears open battery packages, takes however many the job in question requires, and then shoves the rest back into the plastic shell part that is now only partially attached to the cardboard backing–well, a little bit of orderliness might be the main selling point, actually.

Another good selling point: you can get this all for less than half of Amazon’s price. In other words, you get Better Battery quality at a basic battery price.
