4-Pack: Prepared Hero Fire Spray (Dry Stop or Vapor Clean)

Our Take

  • Vapor Clean uses a water-based extinguisher formula
  • Dry Stop uses a powder-based extinguisher formula
  • Both claim to be effective on grease, paper, fabric, wood, and electrical fires
  • Dry Stop can additionally be used for flammable gas fires
  • Not a replacement for a full-sized extinguisher
  • Can they make a margarita: It’s not advisable

Stay Safe

When we sold these previously, @Rhyvangaralian summed things up very concisely:

If nothing else, this is cheap peace of mind for the kitchen.

Couldn’t agree more. Because even the seasoned kitchen pro is going to have an oopsie occasionally.

Like, for example, @PooltoyWolf’s mom:

I stopped Mom three seconds before she poured water all over a grease fire in a wok, and used a standard fire extinguisher instead. Thank goodness I’d been in the kitchen!

Both of these–the dry stop or the vapor clean–claim they would’ve worked for that.

And it would’ve worked for @Manraya as well:

Using the oven for your toaster oven storage is no good if you forget to check before preheating the oven. My oven caught my toaster oven on fire. Oops.

Huh…

So… wait a minute…

You were storing your toaster… in your oven?

Anyway, let’s just move on.

Now, some suggested these would be good to have in your car. But @craigcush set everyone straight on that idea:

Can tell no firefighters commented yet so here goes. These are 21 oz, not enough for a car fire, a 5 pounder will slow down a car fire, I carry a 10# in my car and 4 20 pounders throughout my home. […] Highway patrol carries 15 pound to buy time until the engine company arrives. These won’t stop lithium.

In other words, this is really for pretty small fires. Like the ones that happen in the kitchen.

And sure, you should have a full-sized fire extinguisher in your kitchen already, but you never know when you’re going to need a little more, right?

Sorry, hate to return to this, but: @Manraya, you were using your OVEN as a place to stash your TOASTER OVEN?! Now, while I can appreciate the Oven-ception happening here, and can understand that many apartments and homes have limited counter space and kitchen storage… that just cannot possibly be the best place to put a toaster.

Anyway, getting back on topic, if you’re looking for a place to use these that’s not the car (because they’re not powerful enough) or the kitchen (because you already have a fire extinguisher there), how about outside?

When you’re camping, for example. Or working at the grill. Even @craigcush admits (smirkingly) that they’d work for this:

These might put out your hamburgers that are on fire on the barbecue, but who wants powdered burgers?

Just a word to the wise (@Manraya): just make sure there’s nothing stored under the grill grate before you fire it up.
