The Spice of Life

Happy Halloween!

What we’ve got here is some healthy, keto-friendly granola. It’s a delicious blend of pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, almonds, pecans, coconut, spices and a little bit of monkfruit for sweetness.

Also, it’s pumpkin spice flavor.

We give that detail a line of its own because we’re curious: where are we on pumpkin spice these days?

Like, there was a time when pumpkin spice lattes and pumpkin beer were just like pumpkin pie or pumpkin bars: a nice fall treat that you maybe loved or maybe didn’t, but either way, it wasn’t a big deal.

Then, we arrived at a time when suddenly pumpkin spice became a certain subset of society’s entire personality. Companies were scrambling to pumpkin-spice-ify everything under the sun and consumers were gobbling it all up. There was nothing, it would seem, that couldn’t benefit from a little bit more nutmeg.

After that, however, things seemed to swing the other way. The products kept coming, but now a different subset of society made it their entire personality to roll their eyes at everything put out the pumpkin spice industrial complex. They blogged and tweeted and Instagrammed their astonishment at the consumerist lameness of it all.

Today, we seem to be in a healthier, more neutral place. There are still a wide array of pumpkin spice offerings, but they’re not as loudly loved or hated. PSL season arrived to faint applause (in, like, August?) and craft beer aisles feature one or two pumpkin offerings (maybe because fewer breweries are making them, or maybe because every beer section of every grocery store is now 5% beer and 95% hard seltzer).

But is this actually how it is? Are there still extreme pumpkin spice heads and pumpkin spice haters out there? Let us know in the comments.

Or, avoid the comments altogether, and get yourself some delicious pumpkin spice granola.
